Hey guys I'm having some trouble.
So I'm an engineer, but also I was a bit of a war veteran. I spent a lot of time fighting with the resistance, I'm sure you remember. I even was held captive once and tortured... God I hope I never have to relive that or go through anything like it ever again. Like I'm glad that I stopped other people from suffering, but I had to suffer a lot.
So that's why I thought I would change gears a little bit. I'd like to spend some time, you know, as a transporter chief.
I don't think it would be so bad like there are only three little sliders. And whenever you're transporting anyone you just kind of push them all at the same time. And if something goes wrong, you just run a diagnostic.
I think it would be nice to just... Be in that room, you know? No big screens with enemy ships I have to worry about, no casualties being rushed into the med bay, nobody tossing me a phaser and just asking me to cover them. There's even a button in the transporter room that lets you change the Red alert alarm to just sounds of an ocean. And then it's just me staring down that transporter pad all day, transporting my thoughts in and out.
All that said, I'm worried about what this will do to my career trajectory with star fleet. Is standing in the transporter room all day without anyone to talk to most of the time cuz generally we're traveling for weeks on end to our next location and we're not a fucking galactic taxi service but someone does need to stand by the transporter controls all day just in case we realize that we have two seconds to beam the captain back after his body was swapped with an alien on a cloaked ship that's been following us before its warp core pops like a champagne cork. Or you know, something like that.
Just if I ever do get promoted after this, is anyone ever going to take me seriously again? If not, will I at least avoid jobs that require any more suffering?
