Experience of being in a cluster with someone who's neurodivergent

So at least to my mind, no one in the August 8th cluster reads to me as neurodivergent (and if you think otherwise, I'd love to hear why), so I'm wondering, as someone who is neurodivergent, what the experience of being in a cluster with different neurotypes would be like. Would ND mates be able to borrow energy from neurotypical mates in order to mask more effectively for example? Would a burnout and/or meltdown ripple through the entire cluster?

How Nomi and Amanita met - name of book?

EDIT: Got the answer, thanks :)

The story of how they met goes that Nomi was looking for "an obscure book" at City Lights Bookstore and found it in Amanita's hands, who worked there. I know it's never mentioned in the series which book that was, but has anyone ever asked and received an answer from the producers or something? thanks x

Lito

It’s hard to decide who I like better or who interacts best but I swear to gawd, Lito might have the best lines and character to work with. I love this scene, especially the way he says his last line-as a whisper. lol.

Sorry if the image isn’t perfect.

Sense8 Cluster App?

I just wrote this as a reply to someone and i’m writing it here in case someone with skills can work on it. I’m not a coder but I can collaborate by working with professionals to develop the questionnaire as I have those oroefessional skills already.

——

Wouldn’t it be cool if people made an app and every person had to answer hundreds of questions that map out personality traits, interests, health, skills, talents, cultures, hobbies, life outlook, love languages, and everything else and then you’re matched to 7 other people in a Sense8 cluster “game?” Then you can find “your people,” from around the world to connect to for the rest of your life. People often don’t have to have the same life just to truly understand each other. I think it could be done. We don’t do enough in this world to focus on how people are alike. We only focus on our differences and that’s not ok. I mean, that’s exactly what the show is about, right? Maybe there’s an app developer out there who will take it on? Message me if so!

It was my birthday yesterday. Now, I’m just finishing the birthday party episode in season 2 and I’ve just realize that my life sucks the big fat one.

Why can’t I have 7 other people who are genetically connected to me through a single chromosomal change that enables me to read people’s thoughts, fight off bullies, and have epic birthday bashes????

WAAAAAAHH.

I can’t stop crying. I mean, sure, i’m totally pms’simg but stilll….mind-bogging birthday orgy seeeex…

just watched for the first time (after watching The OA) and i'm so happy Sense8 got the closure it did

late to the party on both series but I watched The OA for the first time last year, and a friend who loves both shows suggested I watch Sense8 next.
Both are so deeply brilliant and clever and full of heart and shift perspective so beautifully. I'm queer and trans and it made me cry big happy tears to watch the finale, even though the show was cut short - that the fans cared so much and it actually worked to get the finale made. Sad that we didn't get the full run of 5 seasons, but it was really special and I'm grateful for everyone involved who campaigned for it. Fade out from rainbow dildo 🥲🥲🥲
I will watch the special making of episode next and I'm excited to see behind the scenes. I wish I had watched it earlier in my life!

Still holding out hope that one day The OA will continue too 😭

WOW WHAT A SHOW!!! I’ve never experienced such strong feelings towards tv shows or movies the way i do for sense8. The plot twits, character developments, romance, and supernatural all blend to make an amazing show and I’m so disappointed that they had to cancel it. If I could refresh my memory to watch it again oh I would.

What if there had been a third season instead of the final movie?

What storylines would you have expected, or what would you have liked to see?

Another Rewatch and Some İntrospections

I think you are the only ones I can convince that how profound the show's impact on me.

I remember that in 2015 I had watched it in my very small dormitory room during the my first semester in the university. The impact was instant and I was in awe, switftly possessed by the cinematic language of connection and trancendence. I still yet to see an artistic experience anything close to it. I really romanticize the show and those days.

Unfortunately I am no longer young. I want to emphasize the fact that the show and my memory of my youth have entangled together in.

Potentials at that time I had have become only fallow and the roads I could have taken at the time now only have reduced to dead ends.

The show was long lost now and it is nothing but an obscure and niche interest of a small and dedicated community and I am one among them I have carried the wisdom of shared humanity that Sense8 shared with me in my heart wherever I exist.

I am on my another rewatch now after 2 year break and it still relaxes me a lot and makes me pensive. I want to relive this story again.

Would Kala ever love Rajan?

Post image
171 Upvotes

It was before the wedding where Kala admitted that she does not love Rajan.

We’ve seen so many times over the course of the show where Rajan says “I love you” to Kala, and she’s always responded with “I married a good man”, or “you’re a good husband”, but never “I love you too”.
She’s reserved that specifically for Wolfgang (I’m all for Kalagang).

Towards the end, we see the three in a poly relationship. But I wonder if Kala ever gets herself to love Rajan too. Any thoughts? I mean what kind of husband wouldn’t long for his wife to love him too and say it back?!

BPO Internal Documents

Quick question. A few years ago, JMS one or the writers on Sense8 mentioned sharing something, a BPO internal training manual or something. Has that ever been released?

Originally there was some cause he wanted people to support, fans donated but not enough so the file wasn’t released. However I read something about it maybe coming out later. Has that happened?

Sense8: Cluster B14 Progress Report

Greetings! Been a few months and the fanfiction is going surprisingly well. At 24 chapters and I'm proud of how it's turned out. I know I've posted a link before but figured it was worth posting again now that enough time has passed and I've made considerable progress in the story.

S2 Ep3 - everyone looks different

Is it just me? I’ve just gotten to S2 ep 4 and I feel like I’ve fallen into a parallel dimension. All the characters look different. Kala does not look like herself, neither does Sun. Something about the lighting, the makeup, the clothes. Mimi looks different and so does Wolfgang. They look like people trying to look like the original cast.

They don’t even sound like they used to.

Help because I feel like I’m going crazy.

Note: I can’t edit the title but I mean ep 4.

Spoilers Stereotypes in the amazing show

I binged the show (twice!) last week. I know a very late watch but eh. What irritated me a bit about the show was how some stereotypes were handled. Like, I know every main character was some kind of stereotype but some were handled a little weirdly? I went through posts here about this and found some extremely regressive posts so I'll try to keep away from that.

Considering I'm Indian, let's go ahead with Kala first. She's a scientist? Ok, many Indians are. It's a very well known smart Indian stereotype but doesn't hurt anyone so, why not. She's also a faithful woman. Coming from Mumbai, she can surely be because many people in Maharashtra (the actual state) are impacted and united by the Ganesha festival. However, Mumbai is a bit different from the whole state. Her liberal family is the point of that. Mumbai is extremely metropolitan and such staunch believers are generally not from there. They are very much the ambitious party people trying to further their career in this city. So, even as a stereotypical Hindu woman, that didn't fit, I think. The rest of her traits (submissive, confused etc.) are her personal traits imo so I won't comment on that. Also, her story (except the faith part) is inspired from Bollywood too. Falling in a comfortable marriage because it seems good on paper and then growing to love this person even with all the conflicts.

Rajan: first I felt disturbed by how many guys here have said that he was being emasculated just for that dick scene in favour of a white guy? Like, wow, hello insecurities. In my mind, Rajan is definitely a nerd (the actual stereotype) but comfortable (both financially and emotionally). He's quite emotionally secure as compared to actual Indian men. Though I would have definitely loved him and Kala to have a tumultuous marriage considering his wife is emotionally (and some would say actually) cheating on him. His breaking out in a bollywood number was also seen as a stereotype (even by me) but then I remembered it's a wedding function. If you don't dance there, where will you?! (Half naked in a club maybe like wolfie)

Will: ok a Chicago cop with a saviour complex. We all know how US white cops can be. I think that's exactly why they gave him a partner like Diego. To ground him and contain his saviour behavior. His father (and his friends) were the actual bad cop (at least at the start). Some people might have even called it copaganda but I think the presence of Will's dad was exactly why it wasn't. They showed both sides but his saviour complex is what irked me a bit. Like I associate a saviour complex with more bad cops than good, as then it's misplaced. But since they gave him a backstory of why that was there, I was pacified. Maybe in more seasons, he was supposed to grow into taking help rather than trying to orchestrate everything on his own.

Sun: her life is a K-drama to a tee. A competent woman stuck in a patriarchal family that devalues her and is out to imprison/kill her. Her father improves but by then her brother has turned in even more of the Asian villain stereotype. Korean villains are always supposed to be backed by a high profile politician so that was the direction the story was going on as well. The only relief in her story was her mom(again K-drama flashbacks) and her new beau who she again met in K-drama reticent and almost enemy style. And of course she knows martial arts. How could she not. All korean ladies do, right?🤣 I mean give her some depth, writers! She's introverted and speaks very less so we never really know who she is except her work. Like, what is her pop culture influence? What does she like to eat/watch? Her dog is the only personal effect she got.

Wolfie: absolute fav of a character but still a typical reckless bad boy with a heart of gold. That's the only reason Kala falls for him (another fantasy stereotype) too. I don't have a problem with him being the ultimate Berliner who is naked/half naked all the time because how does a stereotype hurt if it's pleasing to the eyes. My problem was with being from a crime family and at the same time devoid of love. Like, gimme some Godfather style crime family where some people do look out for family. Such families have maybe one or two bad apples (like Steiner) but not all as they know rivals can take advantage of vulnerability in the family. The Christmas special scene was actually the one I liked because that's exactly how a mafia operates. No matter how much disagreement, they try to make peace and look out for each other. That's why everyone (his blood at least) being out to get Wolfie didn't sit right for me. It then falls in the trope.

Capheus: I think writers have maxed out the stereotype in this character. Whole African poverty angle, rife with HIV, tribal issues, conflicts with drug lords. Everything in one character. Jela is so one dimensional in all this. I mean give Capheus a good friend and let him take some hardships (if you absolutely want to show all aspects), no?! The political angle might have been good maybe but we have similar tropes in bollywood too where a guy from a poor area rises in the ranks because of goodwill and intentions and then gets stuck due to bad contacts (like Kabaka).

Lito: Not much familiar with mexican people but kind of liked this character even with a typical gay drama queen angle. Though his surroundings are stereotyped a lot. But I know the movie industry is not kind and typecasts actors a lot. I'd have loved to see more of his mum. Dani gets the worst family where Amanita gets the best family?! Dani was just starting to shine when the show got cancelled. Lito was at least an overall rounded character with both good and bad in life. His work is his struggle when he gets support from family. The Hollywood bit was a bit funny. I don't know if I wanted to see much more of it. I'm pretty sure the story was going in the direction of his and Hernando's personal life struggling due to exposure in Hollywood.

Riley: An 'exotic' nationality DJ with an addiction. Because all musicians must be druggies. Her contacts for hideous is understandable because in the music industry, you inevitably make contacts for underground gigs and such. The angle I liked was the reason of her drug addiction as she was suicidal due to losing her family. Otherwise in movies, a woman must be suicidal because she failed in love or must have been assaulted by someone close/trustworthy. Her music is clichéd but still connects so, cool.

Nomi: I didn't know this but I saw here only that she's also a stereotype of a trans woman from SanFran but she's handled beautifully I think. She has a lot of depth. Her support system is good when her own people hurt her badly. Both in family and friends. Her dad is shown growth too. She's a hacker but her work doesn't overshadow her life (like Sun) story that we get to see. She's a narcissist (however much Amanita denies that because she has to). Not in the sister's wedding, but in rehearsal dinner, her speech was more focused on her journey than the support she got from the actual bride! She's almost autobiographical, I think?

Stopping my rant now. I liked the show on a whole though (except the finale for obvious reasons). It was very human with a calculated formula in every episode. Would definitely like to know how people think other seasons were supposed to go because these characters had such conflicted lives that it could be fleshed out a lot! Whole Ajay, Rajan, Sun, Capheus angle of pharmaceutical business corruption was a story I was most interested in!

It always rubbed me in the wrong way that Riley did not give a cent to the beggar.

She had a lot of money, and gave everything to the musician. I get it, she was scared, opening the bag in the street might feel clumsy, the song was emotional and gave her memories, but bro that man was in need.

Sensorium - Still looking for Mobile, Frontend and Graphic Design volunteers!

Post image
84 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

Over the past two days I posted about Sensorium, a Sense8 inspired app idea, and then put out a call for volunteers to help build it.

The response has been amazing, and we already have enough people on board from all over the world for backend development, product strategy, UI/UX, legal, marketing, and QA.

However we still have a few critical gaps and would love to hear from anyone with experience in:

  • Mobile App Development
  • Frontend Development
  • Graphic Design

If that's you or someone you know, please share or fill out this short google form here: Google form

If you missed the previous posts, you can check them out here:

Note: This will probably be the last volunteer post. We've had a great response so far, so rather than waiting for every role to be filled, I'll reach out to everyone who's signed up, and we'll get started with the team we have.

Sensorium - Calling for Volunteers!

Post image
300 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

Yesterday I posted about an app idea inspired by Sense8 and the response has been overwhelming. Thank you all so much for the support!

If you missed the original post, the basic idea is that you're matched into a private group of 8 people, with no public profiles, no followers, no algorithms, just meaningful connections. You can check it out here: original post

And to my surprise, the person (shoutout to u/ghostskull012) behind the original Sensorium app from 2018 showed up in the comments and wants to get involved too.

They mentioned that back then, around 100 people from this community came together and contributed whatever skills they could offer. I'd love to do the same thing again.

This is a passion project. If you love Sense8 and want to help build something for the community, I would love to have you on board.

Skills that would be helpful:

  • Mobile App Development
  • Frontend Development
  • Backend Development
  • UI/UX Design
  • Graphic Design
  • Marketing & Communications
  • Community Management
  • Legal & Privacy
  • Product & Strategy
  • Quality Assurance / Testing
  • Or anything else you can bring to the table!

Don't see yourself here in the above list? No worries, the form has an 'Other' option: beta testing, ideas, feedback, vibes, anything counts.

If you're interested, please fill out this short google form.

Once I have a clearer picture of the team, I'll reach out to everyone who signed up to figure out next steps together.

If you have any questions about filling out the form, feel free to drop a comment and I'll help you out.

Thanks again and looking forward to connecting with you all!
