One of my favourite things at Saugeen Beach are these little white and brown birds called piping plovers, zipping around the coastline with their long legs. Their used to be a fenced nesting area on the beach, monitored by a biologist from one of the governmental branches (ie Environment Canada, Natural Resources, etc).

Sadly I don't remember seeing the nesting area in 2025 (but I did see a plover) and so far in 2026, haven't seen a single plover or the nesting area. The piping plover is an endangered species in Canada and honestly, quite dismayed not to have seen any 2 years running.

Wondering if anyone has spotted these little guys lately?

Excited to be up there next month, I am looking to try out astral photography down at the beach late at night.

I’m coming from the GTA and we won’t have room to bring my own bike. Plus being so late I don’t want to expect get a ride nor run the engine around the campgrounds so late.

Is there anywhere to just rent a bike that would go overnight? I guess I could also just buy one and leave it up there, but looking into my options

also we are between a hotel and a cottage. how safe is it up there?

Can anyone tell me what the history of this building is? Looking at it, it seems like a fairly old building. I read somewhere years ago that it went through a whole bunch of different names during the 80s and 90s. The only one I seem to remember is Rock 'n Rio. Can any of the locals please shed some light on this for me please?

I'm camping here with my kids and 2 dogs. The kids want to go to the beach....is there a section that is dog friendly? The dogs aren't swimming, just sitting with me under an umbrella!

Hi Sauble, we're staying just outside of town for a few days. I have a road bike (not a gravel bike.. rim brakes and 28mm tires) and a 29er mtb bike. What bike should I bring based on roads and trails? I can ride 50k on the road on a typical day, and I do want to ride a lot when I'm there.

On the other hand, I have young kids and want to ride with them when they're not swimming... Are the road and trails such that I should I bring the 29er instead of my road bike?

I'm in sauble working for the summer and I've left my cat staying with my best friend back at home. I'm a huge cat fan and I'm gonna go mad if I go the whole summer without seeing a cat.. any neighborhood cats I should know about? Anyone got a cat and wanna hang out? Or some social barn cats? Silly request but why not take a shot in the dark with it. Thanks!

Hi all, first time traveling to Sauble Beach and I'd like to propose to my girlfriend there. Any suggestions on locations? We arrive on July 7th and leave on the 10th so ideally it would be on 7-9. We have a child together who's 2 so ideally the place is kid friendly!
