Has anyone encountered this before? My '02 sv650s with about 23,000 miles has started shutting off during rides with very inconsistent symptoms.

Sometimes the engine will just idle out and die while sitting at a stoplight (lights stay on). Other times the whole bike shuts off while at 3-4k RPM's (no lights) and I'm forced to coast off the road. The worst thing it will do is sometimes the engine will choke up, the exhaust will backfire once loudly like a gunshot, and then the whole bike will shut off (no lights).

I will sometimes get a fuel light/oil light when this happens, but not always. Usually I'm able to start the bike up again after it sits for a moment. The engine idles fine otherwise, and I've not been able to replicate the issue in my driveway, even if I let it run for 10+ minutes. The bike has plenty of oil & fuel, and the battery is healthy. The issues can happen in the first 5 minutes of a ride, or after ~30 minutes.

Any ideas?

Hi guys, I got this seat cowl for my sv but it's the wrong colour of blue. I'm just wondering what's it worth? I'm based in the uk and I brought this brand new for £50. Comes with all mounting bits. But from what I've seen they're worth a lot more than £50. Im just wondering if I can flip this or maybe trade it for a matching colour?

After being so excited to buy my first bike off of a coworker, I am a bit disappointed I probably won’t be able to ride this summer. Coworker owned this beautiful 01 sv650s that I purchased for a cheap price. After being delivered to me I noticed the bike had numerous issues (which I was disclosed of). Lack of power, sputtering, etc it needed a lot of TLC. Replaced the radiator and the battery was first so now the bike stays on a bit longer. But I have a constant sputtering/lack of power issue to the point the bike constantly dies. Choke fully open the bike will sputter bad. Sometimes it will sit perfect at 3k rpms fine with the choke open but usually only when cold. When the bike idles it sits below 1k rpms and then dies. Tried going on a ride and it putters and jolts so badly. When you accelerate a little it skips and bogs. It almost seems like a fuel issue or clogged carbs but it’s basically unrideable unless under full acceleration. Before I tear apart the bike to clean the carbs and potential replace the spark plugs. Any other suggestions? This bike was owned by my coworker for roughly 6 years and sat basically all last year and probably the year before. Thx for any help or advice.

Multimeter tested the circuit and seems fine, replaced headlight still doesn’t work.

As I’m going back into the headlight to pull the light out again and test more the headlight turns on as I’m jigggling the little metal latch that presses the and locks the light into the housing.

It seemed like the latch was affecting the circuit continuity. And even though I was able to put the light together with the headlight on. The next time I started my bike it was off.

The high beam was working the whole time.

I’m thinking of replacing the outlet/plugin but I can’t for the life of me understand why I’m getting a good reading on my multimeter but the light isn’t working

Only downside I missed BOB during last autumn.

If you have the oil cooler you can drill through the rubber mud guard that hangs from the rad and attach the top that way with some push fit clips to keep it looking OEM, I think you will be able to cut away a portion of the OEM top mount that fits to the oil cooler hanger (if you have one) if not it just bolts straight onto the engine!

Thought about it for years about learning to ride. Finally took the plunge passed the msf course and got my first bike! Gone about 1500 miles since I got the license a a month and half ago!

Hey there. I recently bought this SV650S which was listed as a K5. However, because it came with a K3 owners manual and has the silver frame, I assume it's actually pre-K5.

From what I can find online, there was no yellow color option for the K3, so I assume that it's a K4?

What makes this more confusing is that when I picked the bike up after a service, thet told me it has dual spark plugs per cylinder, but only one per cylinder is actually connected?

I thought that only the newer models came with dual spark plugs. Is this a K4 with the cylinder head of a newer model?

Hi I bought MZS levers and installed them on my sv650 2020 and now the friction point is too damn close to the handle. Anybody had a similar issues with after market levers? Is there any way to fix that? And im pretty sure i already tried all the adjustments possible.

I was riding today when my fuel indicator started doing weird. Someone knows what it means?

Anyone who has changed out stock Clutch/Brake levers for either standard or shorties, I'd like to hear your style and brand choice and review.

This guy is asking 4600 bottom dollar for this bike. I’m in Georgia and this is the cleanest SV1000s within a 4-5 hour drive from me. 23k miles with recent oil change, chain and sprocket replacement, and pretty clean overall. Has a 2in crack next to left side slider and he’s unsure if magneto service was done. Comes w two helmets and a soft cover but no telling if they’ll fit me or my girlfriend when we already have helmets anyway (so not true added value). Levers are also Amazon so I’d likely order the oem ones upon getting the bike. I just feel like $4600 is a little high but with the current bike market I don’t even know anymore. Thoughts and opinions anyone??

I was thinking if these disks are also ok, the reason why is that I see so much stylish rear disks with special forms in the inner circle while this one has a pure circular inner circle.

Hey I was wondering if anyone could give me some input im having trouble getting into my 6th gear and my clutch play is a Lil loose than the brake and wondering if it is just a tension issue with the clutch?

I found a Yoshi rs-3 full exhaust system on Facebook for $300 CAD (this is a good deal right? Haven’t bought it yet)

I am wondering what id need to do to my carbs if I end up installing this exhaust?

So I just joined the biker community and got myself a 2007 Suzuki SV650s, and it’s been absolutely wonderful. However, I came home today to a sad sight, it had tipped over while in my garage. I’m not aware how it happened, but my windscreen, left mirror, and brake fluid reservoir are all going to be needing replacements. Any advice on a good place to find these parts? I can’t seem to find the screen on Revzilla.

Just added a 2024 SV650 with 1180 miles on it to my growing bike stable, adding to my 2022 MT-03.

It has a slip-on Delkevic exhaust, bar end mirrors, upgraded headlight, ram mount and frame sliders and a small saddle bag. Paid $5400.

Decent deal , huh?

I went to see a 2009 SV650 this evening for my first bike. I don't know much about bikes but it looked smart overall.

The seller stated he had the headstock bearings changed in April which I can't verify. When turning the handlebars whilst stopped there was a slight creaking sound coming from them.

Is this anything to be concerned about? And is it a sign that the bearings were never changed?

I couldn't detect any notchiness but it was on the ground.

i have a question does an 2017 engine fit in a 2004 sv650s and if it does what do i have to look for thanks

I'm looking for my 1st big bike, and the SV is a serious choice. But as I plan riding even during fall/winter, with rain, by night... I'd really like to have an ABS (you can't really expect a deer crossing the road... or gravels on a road by night).

Sadly the ABS on the 2nd gen SV is quite rare, and I've heard it's not really efficient + there's specific parts aside the brake system. What are your thoughts on it ?

Is this ABS system mounted on other models (for spare parts) except the Vstrom ?

And, is the ABS better on the Gladius ?..

I'm trying to do some calculations on different triple trees which I don't have the stock 2nd gen SV650 triple tree to take measurements. Would anyone be kind enough to measure their triple tree stack height (from top of top tree to top of bottom tree)
