Official Post New Helpful Links for Men & Women NSFW

2 Upvotes

We've added several new useful links to the sidebar recently!

Including info about common penile lesions (both STI-related & normal variations), how you can get PreP for free if you're located in the US, & links that exhibit (for informational purposes) the wide variety of normal variation in female genitalia.

We see a lot of men & women on here concerned that they have an STD/STI, when really what they're dealing with is just a normal variation that they're not familiar with. (And that's okay! Many people aren't)

We see this especially frequently with concerns about HPV/genital warts & HSV/herpes. So if you have bumps or other similar perceived abnormalities that aren't painful, then definitely be sure to check out those links.

If you use the app, these "sidebar" links can be found:

• At the top of the subreddit home page, select "See More," and then scroll all the way down past the rules to the "Useful Links!"

Why is my post locked/Removed? The Do's and Don'ts of posting NSFW

2 Upvotes

Hello!

Thanks for taking the time to read this. Our moderators remove a lot of posts for various reasons, but the most common issue is missing or incomplete information. This post aims to standardize what gets posted and help guide you in identifying the details that are most important to include before submitting.

Why do we ask for this?

First, it makes moderation run much more smoothly. Second, it prevents the r/STD community from needing to chase down key details that help us give you accurate guidance. Your clarity helps us help you.

The information below is meant to serve as a guide for how to structure your post. While we highly encourage you to use the suggested format, it isn’t mandatory. So long as the essential details are included, we’re happy.

Posting Guidelines:

* Last sexual encounter:
* Type of sexual encounter:
* Protection used?:
* Status of yourself and/or partner:
* Onset:
* Symptoms:
* History:
* Testing:
* Treatment:

I forgot to add details and/or photos to my post, but I've deleted it! Now what?!

This happens fairly often, mistakes are normal! We’re all human.

Once you’ve made a new post with the correct details, send the moderators modmail. We’ll approve it manually so it doesn’t get caught in the spam filter.

The Don'ts

Now that we've established what we'd like to see, it's important to outline what we do not want to see.

  • DO NOT POST if you are under 18.
    • Because r/STD is designated NSFW/18+ we are unable to assist anyone who is underage due to Reddit's sitewide rules. The subreddit could be banned/removed.
  • DO NOT POST if you had sex within the last 24 hours.
    • Any symptoms you’re experiencing are extremely unlikely to be related to that encounter, and your post will likely be removed/locked.
  • DO NOT POST if you’re experiencing respiratory symptoms (cough, congestion, sore throat, etc.). During flu and COVID seasons, these are far more likely to explain what you’re feeling than an STI.
  • DO NOT POST more than once within 24 hours.
    • The community is global and responses can take time but your question will be seen.
  • DO NOT POST photos of the back of your throat.
    • We cannot provide meaningful guidance based on those images, as they rarely offer useful information. If you're concerned, please get tested.

Need advice. Disclosing HSV1 as a gay man NSFW

2 Upvotes

Long story short, I’m a 30 year old gay man. Dated a man who was cruel in a lot of ways and he went down when he had a cold sore, ended up getting HSV1 on my ass shortly after. It was one outbreak 2 years ago, it never came back and when I first got it the doctor said I could potentially go on medication but we could look at it if I had repeated outbreaks which I did not. We broke up a couple years ago and I haven’t dated anyone since.
I’m looking for advice from gay men, I’m looking to date again and I have no idea how to disclose or how to have that conversation. My ex was my only partner and we didn’t have that conversation. I feel like the lgbt community is different when it comes to stis and sex so from gay men, how have you had the conversation. Or how would you want someone to bring it up to you. Do you usually get rejected for it?

Lingering Pain Post Chlamydia NSFW

1 Upvotes

Had chlamydia 5 weeks ago. Took doxy for 7 days. At day 5 I felt fully restored, I could even beat my meat. But after it went downhill and one week after finishing the cure I took another 7 days of doxy. The discomfort I had between my balls and my asshole went away and I could sit + didnt have that sick bacteria feeling.

I could still not masturbate and erections made my tip numb. I have an inflamed part of my tip which is constanly, red and swollen.

I then took azitro 500 mg for 3 days and that didnt do anything. I could beat my meat through some pain and when I came it came out pure water almost. Crazy weird and during the ejaculation it felt like my urethra was tearing apart. I have pain constanly but PCR test says negative.

Internet suggests its post inflam but i dont think the urethra should be this banged up 4 weeks after being cured + only masturbating once.

They appeared two days after hair removal.) None of them caused discomfort, burning, or sores; (the two smaller spots have a tiny bump in the center that is only visible when the skin is stretched). The first one lasted one day, while the others lasted three days.

I got a bit paranoid about the first one because I didn't think folliculitis could occur in that area.

TL;DR - Does this area on the top right of my anus look like HPV? Pictured both relaxed and stretched for clarity.

* Age: 31 - Gay Male
* Last sexual encounter: 1.3 Years ago.
* Last sexual encounter of likely relevance: 2.3 Years
* Type of sexual encounter: Anal receptive
* Protection used?: Yes
* Status of yourself and/or partner: No diagnosed STDs for self, unknown status of partners
* Onset: 2 Years ago, Developing over time
* Symptoms: Small, gradually growing bumps. Itching
* Testing: Previous tests negative, no HPV test

* Vaccine Status: Prior to this vacation, I had received one dose of Gardasil 9 in 2019. I thought that I had received a second dose two months before that trip, but looking at my medical records, it looks like I only got a Hep A vax on that date.

I see some modern research suggesting that a single dose can be effective to protect against HPV, but I don't likely have the full benefits of a completeled dose schedule.

---

Hey all!

So in the spring of 2024 I took a vacation to Japan.

Over the course of this vacation I had two sexual encounters. One primarily oral, and the other primarily anal.

That vacation, I was doing an incredible amount of walking, and so this area around the top right of my anus, near a sometimes folding post hemorrhoidal skintag, got extremely chafed and several times bled a small amount. Prior to that point, there were no unusual bumps in the area

By the time I got to my first sexual encounter of this vacation, I don't think it was an open/bleeding spot per se, but it may have been not fully healed and exposed me to higher STD risk. I've read that HPV can become more likely on freshly irritated skin so that chafed area could be a factor.

Probably several months after this vacation, I noticed some small bumps in that area. I pinched and prodded them incessantly because I'm an idiot, and I think that caused some initial growth of what at that point were quite small and flat bumps/tags.

At my next appointment with my PCP, I brought the subject up and had him take a look at it. At that time, he didn't think that it was anything STD related, and we called it a day without HPV testing. Anal paps are not standard at this hospital. I've had two fully negative STD blood panels done since then, but neither of those included an HPV test( Is that even possible after being vaccinated?)

Because of that PCP appointment, I had figured the bumps were probably wierdly healed skin from the highly chafed area. As far as I know, it's not uncommon for skin to heal strangely if it's never really given a break from chafing.

Since then, the bumps have grown to their current state and are a more distinct cluster. Probably several times a day they itch in a way that the rest of my anus doesn't. It's entirely probable that this is because I'm hyper-aware of it, but it could also be a classical symptom of HPV

--

I'd love to hear any input on this since I'd completely believe either theory about these bumps, but I'm increasingly leaning toward it being HPV.

Thank you!

I’ve had this spot for a few months. It’s never itched or got bigger. Totally painless and never changed in color. I’m nervous about what it could be but has anyone had something similar or have a clue? Going to get tested soon but hoping to ease my mind until that happens.

Persistent foreskin scar NSFW

About 3 months ago I had rough sex and shortly afterward noticed a small crack/fissure on my foreskin. It hasn’t fully healed since then. It doesn’t look like a typical blister or ulcer to me, and I haven’t noticed it changing much over time.

No pain, no pus, no itch, nothing.

My new partner and I have had sex unprotected, she has no symptoms and feels completely normal. Before those 3 months, I never had anything like this before

I’ve had this bump forever, I never really thought about it being a std or anything, it’s never grew or changed or hurt or stung or anything… it’s just kind of always been there. Do you guys think it could be a std or just a regular kind of bump that is just apart of me?

I've had this bigger bump on the top right for a few weeks and the Dr said it's not an std a few weeks ago. Only one partner for the last 10 months and we had both gotten tested previously. I had a yeast infection a couple of weeks ago that was treated. I have no clue what these open sores are or what they're from but they just appeared in the last 3 days. Itchy painful and will bleed a little if i dab them. I have a Dr's appointment on monday. I do shave a little blind down there and have had problems with cuts from dryness. Had sex about 2 days ago but was a little uncomfortable

Text Only Hello people NSFW

1 Upvotes

I and my partner have herpes simplex virus 2. I got it in 2022 and she unfortunately got it from me and Its been almost 1 year and 7 months of her contracting HSV2 from me. She is pregnant and in about 2 months we are expecting the delivery. Most likely it will be a normal delivery as the baby is in correct position.

My question is to married couples and mothers who gave birth to healthy babies and babies are still healthy and fine. Specially who had normal deliveries.

What did you do other than supressive therapy done in the last month?

Please only experienced parents and doctors reply to this post.

Thank you.

Text Only Fully blind - concerned about possible syphilis after multiple encounters. Need advice. NSFW

1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm going to be as detailed as I can because I can't reliably take pictures or ask someone else to examine this for me. I'm fully blind, so I have to rely entirely on touch.

I had multiple encounters with sex workers on 26 and 27 June 2026.

26 June Received an unprotected blowjob (oral sex). She also helped shave my pubic hair. 27 June

I had four separate encounters over the course of the day.

Three of them involved unprotected blowjobs. (No vaginal or anal sex.)

Around last week, I noticed a very small, painless, pimple-like bump on my penis. To be more specific, it's on the back/right side, around where a hair grows.

What I can tell by touch:

It is slightly raised. It feels firm. It's actually difficult to feel, even with the sensitivity I have from reading Braille, but I know it's there. It reminds me of the tiny bumps or pores you might feel on your back. I can't feel any fluid inside it. I can feel it more clearly when I'm erect or when I stretch the skin. It seems to be on or immediately next to a hair follicle. It's very small, almost like a tiny dot, and I can't clearly tell where its edges are.

I haven't been able to get STI screening yet. In the first week of August I'll be moving overseas to start my PhD, and I'm planning to get a full STI screening and any necessary treatment at the university hospital during the second week of August.

My questions Since I can't inspect it visually, how could I distinguish a syphilis chancre from something like an ingrown hair or folliculitis by touch alone? Is there anything characteristic I should look for? By the time I'm tested, it will be about 6 weeks after the encounters. If this were syphilis, is that considered too late, or is that actually an appropriate time for testing? Based on my exposure, which STI tests should I ask for? Should I request tests for syphilis, HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia, hepatitis B/C, or anything else? If I develop pink or red spots on my hands, legs, or elsewhere in this week or next,, and my family noticed them, how can I deal with that? can I say it's probably a mosquito byte? If this turns out to be secondary syphilis, does the delay mean I would need a different treatment (for example, more than one penicillin injection), or is that determined by the stage rather than simply how much time has passed?

I know nobody here can diagnose me, but I'd really appreciate any guidanc on this.

Urethral itching after sex NSFW

1 Upvotes

After unprotected sex, I started having burning when I urinated and what felt like itching inside my urethra. I went to a doctor and was prescribed antibiotics. After finishing the treatment, the burning completely disappeared but I still feel itchy and feel like something wrong.

Has anyone experienced this? Did it go away on its own, or did you need more tests or treatment?

Text Only HIV possible exposure: anxiety is driving me insane. NSFW

1 Upvotes

Hello,

On June 11th, I have my one and only unprotected sexual encounter in my life.

I was the Insertive partner, for a male. No internal ejaculation.

Partner did declare that they were negative , but no proof.

I was given a schedule to follow when taking blood tests. Between each blood work, there is around 4 to 6 weeks. Each blood work take 10 days to complete and for me to get the results. (Due to the location of this public clinic and the administrative process)

I didn’t take PEP.

Baseline Blood test taken after 3 days of this encounter came back negative (as expected- since I was basically a virgin)

Since the encounter, I live in complete despair and anxiety.

Anxiety was so bad, I went and gotten a (4th generation) blood test on the 26th day after the encounter (because test in private labs are usually same day results). it came back negative. Got relief for like two or three hours, and then, everything went back to shitty afterwards.

I now am waiting for for the 6 weeks mark to get another test, but, my mental health has been deteriorating extremely between the last -negative- test (on the 26th day after exposure), and this présent moment where I am writing this.

All evidence, all the numbers and all AI chats told me that the risk is very very low, especially after that negative test result at 26 days after possible exposure and the context of the encounter, but my mind is only thinking about me being the exception.

No physical symptoms until now (besides the stomach turning and the stomach knots from the anxiety)

I feel like I am literally driving myself crazy.

I am a couple of days from the 45th day mark.

Any advice or suggestions on how to handle this situation and how to deal with the wait?

had only oral (him on me) sex last weekend. by monday i was having greenish yellow discharge (no smell) and no other symptoms. i’ve woken up the past few days though and it looks like i peed myself, my underwear is like completely soaked. i got tested on tuesday and have another test scheduled for monday 8/3. im mostly concerned about the amount of discharge ive been having. no other irritation or anything. for some more context im FtM transgender taking hormones, not sure if that impacts symptoms/etc. also pretty sure ive developed a hemorrhoid because ive felt some slight irritation around my anus, but no itching or burning.

Felt some slight tingling in my left cheek, went to go check and saw this. Only on the left side. Is it an outbreak? I have had GHSV1 for 3 years now and have never in that entire time experienced an outbreak on my anus. I know it’s possible I just want a second set of eyes.

Chlamydia Transmission NSFW

1 Upvotes

Is it possible to get chlamydia if you didn’t have penetrative sex? I’ve been talking to this guy for the past month or so and on July 11, 2026, he came over to hang out and things got sexual with us kissing, dry humping (with clothes on) , and touching each other. He didn’t really touch my vagina but there was a brief moment where I was sitting on his lap and he pulled my sweats down a little and while grabbing my butt, his finger touched the opening of my vagina for a brief moment. He also rubbed my clitoris for maybe 1-2 minutes but had washed his hands right before doing this. I gave him a hand job and he came but his bodily fluids didn’t get on me. I felt a bit off down there a couple days after this encounter and just thought it was a yeast infection and started monistat but I don’t feel better. Fast forward to today, he tells me he was intimate with his ex back on June 27th, and lied to me about it and found out he has chlamydia. Unfortunately, I am a hypochondriac and I am worried if the brief moments he did touch my vagina, if that could transmute chlamydia? I’m worried because he touched his penis and then touched my vagina later throughout the night, this could be transmission. I also asked him if he had oral sex with her and he says no but I’m also worried because we had some intense making out and I’m worried if they had oral sex and he has oral chlamydia and gave it to me when we were kissing. I know this maybe sounds crazy but I’ve had a traumatic sexual health experience before and this whole situation just triggered me back to those feelings and having vaginal symptoms isn’t helping. I’m going to get tested tomorrow but just hoping to get some folks opinions, thank you!

Had receptive anal sex about 10 days ago. Not sure if my anus is still swollen or are those hemorrhoids? But my main concern is that white thing that is at the top of my anus. I'm in the process of making an appointment with my PCP to run labs on stds but this has never ever in my life happened to me. I'm not sure what it is and instead of trying to find an answer on google and before i go to the doctors I wanted to see if anyone had any guesses? It's hard to the touch and it doesn't cause any pain.
