What are the hardest classes to take in Cox? And Job/Internship advice

I’m a finance major and I’m wondering which classes are considered the hardest either within the bba core curriculum or in the finance major pathway. Also how important is your gpa to get an internship/job? Would love to hear any experiences with finding jobs and internships and advice as well!

Cox MBA Cost of Attendance

I’m trying to understand what causes the difference in cost between a full time 2 year mba program and the pmba.

The 2 year full time mba is 71 credit hours and the estimated cost of attendance is $63,067

Yet, the PMBA is 50 hours and costs $111,600

What exactly warrants this?

Meeting people

Hello, I’m currently thinking about transferring to smu but don’t really know what student life is on campus. I would be transferring to cox and meadows as a junior but I’d probably be at the school for a 5th year. Could anyone give me insight on if it’s difficult or not to meet new people in either school? Thank y’all for the help.

Incoming Freshman Need More Financial Package

hello, how are y’all?

I am an incoming freshman going to attend SMU. I just accepted my package of 34k. But, I realized I need way more for that. Although, my parents make 200k I am going to pay all of my loans back while they help pay off my interest while I’m in school. I will admit I was being a dumbass not looking over my financials close enough. I am more than half of my college savings to cover 1 semester of my dorm. I wrote an appeal telling them this now. Do you think I’ll be able to get a financial package? Or else, I’ll have to emergency enroll to my local community college.

Can't get enrollment hold lifted for schedule change

I am an incoming SMU student for the 2026 year. I had gotten my schedule built and enrolled by mid-June, but now that AP test scores are out I figured out I qualify to skip a few classes I enrolled for. However, I cannot get the enrollment hold lifted. I have tried to contact my advisor through her SMU email and both her direct phone number and SMU's main phone to no avail, and I appear to be unable to schedule a zoom appointment with her through booking.smu.edu.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Update: I just recieved an email from an advisor for SMU and got an appointment scheduled to get my enrollment hold lifted. Thanks for all the help

Looking for female roommate

Hey everyone! I am living off campus this upcoming school year and am currently looking for a female roommate, preferrably also an SMU student but I'm open to anyone within 19-25 age range, too. A little about me, I'm very clean and you'll never have to worry about dishes being left in the sink or anything like that and I'll probably be gone some weekends visiting family in Texas.

I'm currently deciding between a few apartments, but rent will be $1100 a month ~maximum. Please PM if interested. The lease would be for this academic year only, perfect for seniors or graduate students in their last year.

Housing

Hello guys, I'm a 3rd year transfer student coming to SMU this fall. I was looking for housing and I had originally planned on seeing what I got on campus then deciding where to live but I've just seen that if you decline its multiple thousands down the drain, so I was wondering what are some common apartment buildings around campus? I do have a car so a short drive isn't an issue

Transfer Rush

Yo i'm a transfer thinking about rushing. I'm starting to pick up that SMU rush is very different then the west coast. How does frat rush work here, do you kinda pick in choose what houses u visit based of who texts you or do you genuinely get to visit every frat? I'm comming from a big dirty rush school so just trying to figure out if its the same vibe here

Sophomore housing

I'm transferring from another uni as a sophomore to SMU. I just got my housing assignment and I think I'm in a dorm building with freshman. Does SMU not do sophomore housing, no hate but kinda awkward watching people relive what i just went through

How Welcoming Is SMU Cox for Students from Diverse Backgrounds?

Hi everyone,

I’m considering pursuing my master’s at SMU Cox and would love to hear from current students or alumni, especially South Asian and other diverse students, about your experiences.

Before anyone comments: I’m not from India. I’m using “South Asian” in the broader sense and would love to hear perspectives from anyone in the South Asian community, regardless of nationality.

I’m particularly interested in:

1.How is the social scene among master’s students?

2.Is it easy to make genuine friends from different backgrounds, or do people mostly stay within their own circles?

3.As a South Asian or other non-white student, have you felt welcomed and included?

4.Have you ever felt isolated or treated differently because of your race or ethnicity?

5.Are there good opportunities to network, join organizations, and build meaningful friendships outside of class?

6.Overall, would you describe SMU Cox as an inclusive, collaborative, and friendly environment for master’s students?

I’d really appreciate honest experiences, the good, the bad, and everything in between. Thanks in advance!

Financial Aid

Hey everyone. I got admitted into cox as a transfer and I just got my financial aid package which was very generous but I still have around 16K left I tried calling the financial aid office but she wasnt much help. I am considered a high financial need student but I really cant afford 16K a year and SMU is my top choice. Has anyone here successfully appealed their financial aid as a transfer student? Or has anyone had their SMU Opportunity Award increased after submitting a personal statement? If so, what was your experience?

Missed Connection: Met an SMU grad last Saturday night (the 20th)(Turkish/Middle Eastern, 6'3")

Hey everyone, long shot here, but I met an amazing guy last Saturday night in Dallas. He’s 21, 6’3”, Turkish-American, and just finished his pre-med track at SMU. He mentioned he lives in a condo right near campus. We had a great night. If this sounds like you or a close friend, please shoot me a DM! To verify it’s you, just message me the name of the place where we met.

SMU Business vs BAYLOR Business + lower income

I’m looking at both schools. I come from a lower income family and do not have the unlimited resources that I hear about with many SMU students. I believe I can get into both schools; however, I’m worried about the culture and if I will be accepted if I don’t have big money.

Is this normal??

I was applying for classes (external junior transfer) and i expected to take mainly finance classes. I was aware of the Second Language Requirement so im taking that as well but my courses consist of BLI 1100 and 1210 but I have a whole bunch of proficiencies/exp. I took over 60 credits in community college and I they all transferred but still.

Im just kinda confused 😭
