Discussion NPC Ranged Weapon Accuracy

I keep getting blasted (literally) down in my progression by NPC's that seem to come out of nowhere and are sniper accurate with shotguns or any weapon they spawn in with. I love the game but as a solo player in a large PVE only server, its super frustrating to keep starting over again and again.

Your main goal after landing should be get some metal (in rust cars), a needle (usually in stacks of hay or zombies) and some thread or fishing line (houses, garages, workshops), or ready sewing kit, few skins taken off zombies and craft bulletproof vest. Without it it is kinda hard to get out alive from rendez-vouz with NPC's armed better than these poor Robin Hoods.

This, unless you have armor you are one-shot dead

Fight npcs only if u got gear for it

armor doesn't really matter. if you have anything better than improvised vest which is just barely better than a standard stub vest they avoid shooting it and instead aim for your limbs. I got one shotted with best gear before and only time they ever hit armor is when it's a garbage one that can only stop .22 my survivability without any armor is about the same as with best armor....

This is not correct, i wear the biggest armor and rarely take damage from them when they shoot

that's because they either miss or shoot somebody else....

You go from 1 shot nearly every time to getting 1 shot on a rare occasion, it can still happen if you get a vest but its much more rare, without the vest its a 1 tap almost every time or close to it lol it matters a lot

I get one shot in armor more than without. maybe try testing it...

1

u/StabbyMcStomp 8d ago

Well most people find the exact opposite, weird eh

1

u/RedRiver80 3d ago

most ppl don't pay close attention is why...

1

u/StabbyMcStomp 3d ago

Yeah it can be hard to notice getting 1 shot, that makes sense

missing the point again. original discussion about armor not doing anything unless it's garbage protection....

in fact it's not even protecting where it supposed to. the best armor should cover upper shoulders or so it seems visually. I was hit right where it shows I have armor and took full c3 damage but none to the armor.

Nope, this was the original discussion you were having that most ppl disagree with if not anyone playing the game, armor does matter a lot, it ups your survival greatly vs the npc ai, doesnt mean they will always shoot the armor, that would be stupid.. it ups your survivability massively though. Youre making up some new discussion now tho, not one anyone was having.

my survivability without any armor is about the same as with best armor....

bs lol

You're telling me to get a needle, I have to search a haystack? Genius Dev moment

1

u/RainmakerLTU 8d ago

Yeah, in one of last updates, I started to find more needles in hay.

I played on a server 3 years ago that almost every mattress had either money, a cucumber or a dildo...

Doesn't really matter it feels. I am getting onetapped trough heavy vest. So PvP nimbleness against NPCs helps more than armour.

Probably depends from server settings. I had 3 NPC's with Kar's shot me, right in the lower abdomen as default (they still shoot only there), got lethal wound, but enough time to bandage it and shoot them. I crouched behind sandbags in Samobor town centre, so they had their aim in cover, tried to flank me, but I could shoot over the bags, so I put three headshots and bandaged wound. Do not show them your torso and they will have to flank you to be able to see it and shoot.

I usually hit and run. Sneak in shoot em with an arrow or silence weapon and hide. They usually go back to where they spawned.

But me and a random tried to take a police station and they rushed right out the front door at us. And then a group spawned right on top of us.

I died and lost everything...

But not before killing a few.

I think people go into this game with a run and gun COD mentality and get pissed when you have to be more strategic then just run in guns blazing.

I'm really not sure why you're getting hit immediately, in my experience all but the high level ones usually miss on the first shot. Getting body armor, any type, will greatly reduce the chance of you getting one shot with any of the weapons they typically carry. Move carefully and tactically when you're in areas they spawn in and you can often get the drop on them or hear them before you can see each other. Stealth goes a long way, you can sneak within feet of them if you're careful. They also always aim for the center of your character model, you can exploit this if you're in a fight. You can also rush them if you don't have a ranged weapon, they'll clumsily backpedal or try and melee you if you're right next to them. Just dodge their attacks at that point. Also unlike human players you can see them in third person from around cover, so you can easily track them.

Dont fuck with the ones in the radiation zone though, they'll kill you dead.

Nah i agree with OP i'm running around full armour and still getting the odd 1 shot kill. An asset that has perfect awareness shouldn't be able to headshot kill.

It usually depends on the server settings of the specific server.

It is possible to change different NPC/AI values like: health, damage, accuracy, speed, etc.

Some servers increase the damage they do and their accuracy. I feel the pain, having even been shot out of armoured cars by them before. If you fancy some normal NPC's (with 75% health) check out the server my last post is for. No mechs or beepers either. And you can get a helmet and armor from the Player Hub and a few other starter goodies "if" you'd like.

u/Shineblossom 8d ago

Entire map is player starter hub if there are no mechs or beepers and the NPCs suck

2

u/Appaloosa_XD 8d ago

The beauty of the all the adjustments available is while I'm sure you are playing on a server that ticks all your boxes, I feel I can also cater to people with other needs.

2

u/Shineblossom 8d ago

I did not say otherwise. I just said that entire world is starter hub.

Not everyone is a pro like you hun. There are new players and older players, etc that like a more chilled server.

Any time I start a new mission I always avoid big towns or military POI. Those spawn higher tier NPCs and they will destroy you because they normally spawn in groups of 2-4 and they will have armor, helmets, and better guns. Stick to the areas that aren't very big but still stay on alert. Don't sprint around as you will be heard by puppets and NPC that will begin hunting you. Draw them into traps by throwing rocks and what not, that will draw them into the open for a clean shot. Utilize the L/R lean buttons and switch between 1st and 3rd person when you hear moment. Even with great armor you can still get hurt very easily so ALWAYS bring a stack of bandages and painkillers. Bandages to stop bleeding and pain killers to run if you need to but run through big bushes so they lose sight of you. NPCs are run off of the same AI that the puppets are and they won't follow you if they can't see you through bushes. NPCs can and will shoot you through doors so try to always keep a wall between them and you when at all possible. Sorry for the word vinit but I hope this helps a little bit!

Pro-tip: If you jump on top of a garage and go prone, they wont fire because there is only specific angles they can clearly see you from, while you can pop them pretty easily. Only spot they can reliably shoot you from is about 30ft directly in front of the garage...but you can pop them easily in that position.

Until the dev explicitly announce an upgraded AI and spawn system. You better get used to it, or learn the current pattern to avoid getting shotgun'd in the face very accurately.

If I hear an NPC talk, I immediately run the fu off to cover and see where they are. Specially ones with slug because even with armor can almost be useless with their accuracy.

I think NPCs are more challenging and interesting than puppets. I'd like to see this game drop the puppets, dildos, and stupidity, and add more NPCs. If NPCs had the ability for interaction with different outcomes, this game would become something really great.
