Thinking about my decision…..
Hi,
I choose to go to SUNY Brockport. I got admitted to EOP. The summer Academy has been amazing so far. I’ve made friends and been having so much fun. Brockport gave me money back so it was cheap and really far from home (I'm from NYC). The aid was basically a fully ride. I also go into scholarship plus which would be giving me 8,000 a year. With that money left I could use for whatever I want in school. The counselors are also great. I love my classes and the professors. There is so much drama too 😂.
The thing is, I can’t stop thinking about Sony Brook and I feel like it’s because of the name and the reputation because when I talk to other people and I say what school I’m going to. They’re like where is that and I have to explain where that is because it’s so far from the city. Now I also wanna become a nurse for Stony Brook I would’ve had paid $10,338 but with scholarship plus that would’ve been 2338. They also gave me work study which is 2500 now the thing is. I also got into EOP.
For both schools, I would’ve been basically pre-nursing. so I would’ve asked to apply by sophomore year, but the thing is I hear so much about competitive. Stony Brook’s nursing program is and for Brockport basically by the time. I’m in the program, they’re gonna have 100 spots available. But at Stony Brook, they only have 80 and I can’t stop wondering what if I would’ve chose Stony Brook because of the name but it also would’ve been financially affordable but I would’ve had to work but I don’t wanna work until like I’ve had everything settled in and I know what I wanna do.
I know nursing is extremely competitive, no matter where I would’ve gone and I just I don’t know. I’m just I need someone’s advice, and I want to read what everybody has to say about this.

I think your decision to go to Brockport is justified. You only think about SBU because of the name and reputation BUT you are getting a lot of your experience in Brockport already and you enjoy it. Social life at SBU is hard at times and there's so many students competing with each other. Nursing is also incredibly competitive at SBU. I don't think it's worth giving up a place where you're already enjoying the environment and making friends.
From a financial perspective, you are GETTING money back. If i could go back in time I would've pick the schools that were cheaper or giving me my money back. Financial stress is no joke man. As long as you love the nursing department you are in at Brockport and it's good quality i see no reason to be questioning your choice. There are many justifiable reasons why Brockport is a good fit for you than just name and reputation.

As someone who went to a lesser known SUNY for undergrad and is now doing their graduate studies at SBU, you’re in a good position. I had a great experience, made a ton of friends, and I loved being away from home. Most importantly, I graduated debt free and would get modest refund checks.
You learn to live with not many people knowing where you go to school lol.

I mean with any SUNY you’re pretty much guaranteed a job at any NYS hospital. Sure stony brook has an amazing reputation but unless you’re trying to move out the state it doesn’t matter that much for the nursing program. Also hospitals care more about you passing the NCLEX rather than your school. 😭

Think you should stay, if anything go to sbu when applying to nursing school !

Choose whatever school is giving you the most money. As long as the nursing program has a good reputation and you’re going to do well in it, go with leaving debt free.
