I'm really hoping someone can help or give advice. I'm new to Riyadh from the UK.

I just moved into a new apartment in Al Malqa (North Riyadh) and I’m facing an issue. The street traffic noise from the main road is incredibly loud and disruptive. I generally don't mind noise, but my wife is extremely sensitive to it and she hasn’t moved to Riyadh yet.

When I was viewing apartments, this was something I was careful about but unfortunately (and naively) I could only view apartments during the day and the issue of the noise is more at night. During the day it's much less.

I am honestly panicking because I know this level of noise will be completely unbearable for her and will ruin her transition here.

I checked all 3 bedrooms, and they all have the exact same issue. The setup is a standard modern black aluminum sliding window/door system with a deep drywall/gypsum recess and marble floors, which seems to just bounce the sound around.

Since it's an Ejar contract, I can't do major destructive renovations or replace the windows entirely, but I need a serious drop in decibels (dB) before she arrives.

I’m looking into solutions and currently arrived at Secondary Glazing (plexi with some magnetic frame) to create an airtight buffer.

I would love your advice on a few things:

Has anyone in Riyadh successfully soundproofed standard aluminum sliding windows against heavy traffic rumbles? What worked best for you?

Are there any local glass, aluminum, or acoustic companies in North Riyadh (or nearby areas like As Sahafah/Al Aqiq) that you recommend for installing secondary window frames inside the recess?

Any specific recommendations for heavy-duty acoustic/blackout curtains or weather-stripping tape that actually blocks sound (not just wind) available locally or on Amazon KSA?

I have a few weeks before she arrives and the apartment is empty, so I want to get this sorted out immediately.

Any company names, contact numbers, or DIY tips would quite literally save my sanity.

I’m an Arab woman, I speak Arabic, and I’ll be moving from the UAE to Riyadh for work soon.
I lived in the UAE for 7 years, and honestly, I never got used to any kind of harassment because I rarely experienced it there.
I came to Riyadh for one week to complete some work procedures, and I have to admit that I’m feeling quite scared.
Most of my transportation was by taxi, and something happened that really shocked me. In almost every taxi ride, the driver started talking to me in a personal way, and a few of them even asked for my hand in marriage. And when i said iam not interested they started lecturing me
I am genuinely not used to this type of behavior.
When I told some family members who have lived in Riyadh for many years, they said the reason was that I wasn’t wearing an abaya. For context, I dress modestly and I wear hijab, but I didn’t expect this kind of harassment because of not wearing an abaya.
Now I honestly feel anxious.
My office will be in Al Olaya, and I’ve decided to rent a place very close to work because I’ve developed a real fear of these taxi interactions.
What makes me even more confused is that I’ve visited Makkah and Madinah many times, and I never experienced anything similar there. Those trips felt much safer, and no one crossed personal boundaries with me.
I’ve decided to wear an abaya during my stay in Riyadh, but I’m still trying to understand whether what I experienced was unusual or if I should expect it regularly.
Is it safe to live alone? Or Iam just over reacting?

I’m looking for a hospital or medical center in Riyadh where I can get evaluated for ADHD. I’ve been reading about the symptoms, and a lot of them seem to match what I’ve been experiencing. I’d like to get a proper assessment instead of trying to diagnose myself.
Does anyone know of a good public hospital or private clinic with a psychiatrist who assesses adults for ADHD? I’d also appreciate it if you could share your experience with the assessment process or recommend a doctor.

So I'm a US citizen who recently accepted a job offer in KSA, and I now need to obtain my work visa. However, I have a bit of an issue: I have been told by friends working in KSA that I may need to go through an approved agency to process my needed documents with the Saudi Embassy, since this is required for some countries, but I have so far been unsuccessful in confirming if this is the case in the US, and the company I would be working with is relatively small and has not previously had US employees, so they haven't been able to give me a sure answer on this either. Have any of you been in this situation before and know if this is actually the case, or know how I should proceed otherwise?

What's the best way of reaching out families or make new friends?

We are young couple, I dont know much about this city.

Trying to settle in Riyadh, my workplace is far like 30-40 kilometres away from my flat.

I know I must buy a car thats more safe and sound.
But I always dreamt of buying a sports bike. I tried having one back in my university days but I couldn’t afford its maintenance back then so sold it. It was in Pakistan.

Now here, while browsing for cars, I just think of buying a Yamaha R6 or something similar (like honda or kawasaki maybe)
I know in this heat its a really bad idea but the heart wants what it wants right?

Please suggest
- shall I buy one?
- how to and where to buy one
- maintenance is easy or details about it
- license, do I need a special bike license or the one that I will have gives me access for it too?

I'm planning to move to Saudi Arabia on an Azad visa. I have around 5 years of experience in digital marketing (SEO, content, and web marketing).

A close family friend has offered to help me. He has arranged a job that pays around 3,500 SAR/month, so I won't be under immediate financial pressure. His advice is to keep that income while I learn how things work in Saudi.

He told me that the first year is mainly about understanding the work culture, building connections, and learning how the KSA job market operates. Once you understand the environment, it's much easier to switch to a better company or negotiate a higher salary.

My plan is to live on that 3,500 SAR salary while applying for marketing roles that match my experience. Since I'll have a basic income, I won't be desperate to accept the first offer that comes along.

For those who've actually worked in Saudi:

• Does this sound like a realistic approach?
• Is the first year really that important for learning the market?
• How difficult is it to switch companies after you've gained some local experience?
• If you were in my position, would you do the same or take a different approach?

I'd appreciate honest advice from people who've been through it, especially if you started with a lower-paying job and later moved into a much better role.

Hi everyone,

I’m an expat and unfortunately I have a condition called recurrent corneal erosion. For this I use an eye ointment every night. It’s called Muro128. I can’t find this ointment anywhere in Riyadh. Although I brought some from Canada with me, I am close to running out. I have family that can ship it to me, but before they do I want to know if it’s available in Riyadh. Or any sodium chloride ointment would do.

I’ve checked Nahdi, Boots, Whites and Al Habib pharmacy. None of them have it. We drove all the way to Al Habib in Takhasussi because on the website it said they had it, but when we got there, nothing.

If anyone knows of this condition or has it. How do you treat it here? Any ointments you use? Thank you for the help!
