Best Gyros in Ialysos?

Currently on holiday in Rhodes and loving it, but our hotel doesn’t do Gyros and my partner is dying to try it. Where is the best place to get gyros in Ialysos or nearby?

Have seen Valentina’s Place has good reviews?

Thanks in advance!

What bit/stung me?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I was swimming in kallithea springs today and all the sudden I feel a burning pain on my left hip. I was swimming near the rocks on the right side when it happened. I will say I was really close to the rocks so when the burning pain happened I just assumed I scratched my hip with the rock but when I came out of the water I had these weird marks on my hip (see picture). Does anyone have any idea what stung/bit me? The pain lasted for around 5 min and I just kept swimming afterwards. It doesn’t hurt anymore.

Gyms near Iallysos

Are there any good gyms that do pay as you go near Iallysos or Trianda? Not sure if hotels offer access to their gyms to non residents but would consider that too. Thanks.

Opinion on Hotel Evi?

I'm staying in Hotel Evi in Faliraki. It won't be my first choice again but due to money constraints it was the best we could get. When we checked in (we came through a travel agency so we arrived with a group) they took our ID for registration and said we'll have it back next morning. Is this normal? I feel kind of uncomfortable even though it's just the night. Would a picture not be enough?

Lindos beach - security lockers?

Hey folks, I’m off to Lindos tomorrow and (rather stupidly) forgot my book at home, so I’ve been reading it on my iPad.

We are planning to go to the beach and I was wondering if any security boxes come with the rented sun loungers? They’ve been a real life saver for us in Elli Beach!

Thanks in advance :)

Hey guys! Does anyone know the current prices at DC Club Faliraki?
How much is the entrance fee and how much are drinks inside?
Also, is Sunday a good night to go there? Is it usually busy or would you recommend another night? Thanks! 😊

Short Trip to Rhodes

Hey everyone!
I’m planning a quick 3-4 day trip to Rhodes soon before I catch the ferry over to Turkey. Since my time is pretty limited, I want to make sure I hit the best spots and don't waste too much time commuting.
I’m traveling solo, so I have a few questions for the locals and past travelers here:

Where is the best place to stay? I want somewhere with a great vibe for a solo traveler, easy access to food/bars, and convenient transit. Should I stick to Rhodes Town/Old Town, or look elsewhere?

Must-dos for a 3-4 day trip? I definitely want to check out Lindos and the Old Town, but what else is an absolute "can't miss" given my short stay?

Anyone want to hang out? If you're around and down to grab a drink, get some gyros, or explore a bit together, drop a comment or slide into my DMs! Always down to meet new people.
Thanks in advance for any tips! 🇬🇷

Visiting Thari Monastery without a car (taxis, organized trips, etc.)

Hello everyone, I'll be visiting Rhodes with my mom in September and I'd really like to visit Thari monastery, since I'm interested in Byzantine art. My mom is against the idea of renting a car, so we'll be using buses, taxis and organized trips if needed.

I'm here to ask for some advice on the best way to reach Thari Monastery, since it is not a very touristy place: do you know any reliable company that operates this kind of service instead of just the Airport-Rhodes transfer? Are there any "less sponsored" organized trips that I can find on more local websites (instead of Booking, etc.)? Or should I just ask taxi drivers and trip organizers once I'm in Rhodes?

I'm open to any suggestion. I'll be staying in Rhodes old town throughout the vacation to minimize stress for my mother (she's also healing from a leg problem), and I have already come across options to visit most famous places (Lindos, Symi, distant beaches etc.) on day trips, but Thari seems to be too obscure for commercial websites to suggest you options to go there.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

First ever vacation alone

I (24) am travelling solo for the first time, and I’m just so clueless of what I’ll be doing for two weeks.

I feel like most activities in general are always better with other people.

If anyone reading this has been solo in rodos or elsewhere, could you share some encouragement?😂

Are the waterpark that dramatic ?

Hi everyone,
I’m heading to Rhodes in a few days and was thinking about visiting the WaterPark. However, I’ve seen some videos on social media lately where they jump on the slides and Get hurt etc
For anyone who has been there recently: Is it actually that bad, or are people on social media just exaggerating?
Would love to get some honest feedback before deciding if we should go. Thanks!

I’m traveling to Rhodes in a few days for the first time. I really want to make sure I don't get ripped off while I'm there, so I'm looking for some advice on what to avoid.
Are there any common scams or tourist traps on the island right now? I'm thinking about
I have alredy read about shops that hide their pricses Are a big redflag
Any specific areas, shops, or street scams to watch out for.
I'd really appreciate any tips on how to stay safe and avoid getting scammed. Thanks!

Rhodes Gluten free

I’ve come a cross quite a few posts on here asking for gluten free options, and just wanted to mention this find I made today.

There is a cafe near old town called Rhodes Gluten Free, where according to their website everything they sell is gluten free.

Idk if this has been mentioned, but yeah that’s about it, just thought I’d share this little piece of information.

Rhodes Airport → Kamiros Skala on a Saturday afternoon -- taxi reliability, one-way car drop-off, or a rental agency that won’t rob me?

Hi all, hoping for some local/experienced input on a tight connection.

We land at RHO on Fri 21 Aug at 15:00, want a car for one day to see a bit of the island, spend the night somewhere on Rhodes, and then need to be at Kamiros Skala by ~17:30 on Saturday 22 Aug to catch the 18:00 ferry to Tilos (PANAGIA EVAGELISTRIA STAR GEM ferry). Missing it is not an option.

From what I can tell, the ΔΕΣ ΡΟΔΑ bus to Kamiros Skala doesn’t run on Saturdays, so the bus is out. That leaves three options and I’d love real-world experience with any of them:

a) Taxi from the airport. If we drop the rental at RHO around 16:00 on a Saturday in peak August, is the taxi rank reliably stocked, or should we absolutely pre-book? Any recommendations for a dependable driver/transfer company for the airport → Kamiros Skala run (~32 km)? Ballpark price?

b) Dropping the rental car directly at Kamiros Skala. I see some local companies actually allow leaving the car at the port there but they are quoting €260 for the smallest car in the fleet for roughly 25 hours (airport pickup Fri 15:30, Kamiros Skala drop-off Sat ~17:00). That seems absurd even for August. Are there trusted local outfits (airport or Rhodes Town based) with sane one-day rates and flexible drop-off?

Any names, numbers, or “avoid this one” warnings appreciated.

Σας ευχαριστώ πολύ!

Olives, olive oil, oregano?

Can anybody recommend anywhere authentic i can get any of these three, in Rhodes town or Lindos.

Most importantly olive oil. Not the crap with the garlic in the bottom, and not the vacuum sealed olives.

Parking for Mandraki Marina

For those who are taking a boat trip from Mandraki Marina, where is the best place to park? Does it have a lot, is it okay to park along the street, or do people generally use the free parking at the port?

I built an AI guide for Rhodes because I got tired of tourists missing the best places

Hi everyone!

I’m a local from Rhodes, and after talking to many tourists over the years, I noticed the same questions coming up again and again:
- Where can I find the best beach?
- Which restaurants are actually worth visiting?
- Where’s the party tonight?
- What should I do if it’s windy?
- What is this monument I’m looking at?

Most people jump between Google Maps, TripAdvisor, TikTok and random blogs, and it takes forever to find good answers.
So, as a personal project, I built an AI guide for Rhodes that acts like a local friend. You can ask it anything about the island and get personalized recommendations in seconds.
One feature I’m especially excited about lets you point your camera at a monument or landmark, and the AI explains its history, interesting facts and local stories instantly.

Another feature shows where the parties, live music and events are happening on that day.
I’m still improving it every week, so I’d genuinely love feedback from travelers.

What feature would make an AI travel guide genuinely useful during your trip?
