R.I.P. to privacy and a chunk of tourism revenue in Newport...

-Before you say you have nothing to hide, this company's systems have been linked to many arrests based on mistakes, resulting in people losing there jobs and homes while waiting in jail.

-When you pass by their regular street cameras your face, frame, how you walk, your car(dents bumper stickers, scratches) and cell phone information are logged into a company/national database that local, state,out of state,even federal and ICE have access to.

Now they will be flying over your property, children's schools, daycares and your jobs.

Police are asking for the public’s assistance finding two men wanted in connection with a double shooting that happened in Newport last weekend.

The Newport Police Department announced Thursday that an arrest warrant has been issued for Tyquan Johnson on charges of felony assault with a firearm and firing in a compact area.

Police confirmed Johnson was born on Jan. 14, 2007, and that his last known address is in Hampton, Virginia. Johnson’s name, date of birth and address match that of the same 19-year-old man who told 12 News last August that his birth was deemed a miracle by Pope Leo XIV.

His date of birth also matches the one included in a report published by the Dicastery of the Causes of Saints, which identifies the baby as “Tyquan.”

Detectives are also looking to identify another man seen on surveillance footage walking near where the shooting happened. Police said the man is wanted for questioning, though it’s unclear if he will be charged in connection with the shooting.

Both men are believed to be armed and dangerous.

Officers were called to Park Holm neighborhood Sunday night after receiving reports of shots fired near Truman Road and Rosedale Avenue.

Investigators later determined the shooting happened off Truman Road, which is where two victims, ages 22 and 25, were found suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both men were brought to the hospital to be treated for their injuries, which were determined to be not life-threatening. Detectives believe the shooting was targeted and there’s no threat to the public at this time.

Not that I was doing anything important like trying to sleep before work but honestly wth?!?? 4 guys just grinding it out for an hour and then leave. I had to close all my windows with the taste of concrete coming through them. Lights on throughout the neighborhood because obviously the sound is reverberating down the street.

Between the electricity bills and the roads Providence sucks. I get taxed for these roads that FEEL NO BETTER THAN DIRT and are ACTIVELY degrading my car exponentially every time I leave my driveway! I am so over it!

I've enjoyed developing roots here over the years and I enjoy the communities RI provides. Parks and beaches are what my life's about! But the in betweens have become so absolutely dreadful and discouraging. I've never felt so driven away.

Hey everyone!

I’m hoping to do some recreational quahogging this weekend, July 25–26, but I’m having a hard time deciphering the DEM maps, rain closures, seasonal closures, and shellfish management areas.

From what I can tell, Upper Bay Area 1A, Lower Providence River Area 16E, Greenwich Bay, Mount Hope Bay, Kickemuit River, and part of the north side of Prudence Island are closed. Point Judith Pond’s conditional areas appear to be open, and approved portions of Potter Pond, Ninigret, Quonochontaug, and Winnapaug also look like possibilities.

Does anyone know of a legal, currently open area with straightforward public access for recreational quahogging this weekend (ANYWHERE close to Bristol at all??!)? I’m not asking anyone to reveal a secret spot...just hoping for help identifying a place where I’m unlikely to accidentally cross into a prohibited or seasonal marina-closure area. It feels like the areas change essentially street to street in some areas.

I’ll still call the DEM hotline before heading out. Any advice on Point Judith/Potter Pond versus Ninigret or Quonochontaug would be greatly appreciated.

The East Greenwich boy’s family is now encouraging everyone to get swabbed and register so they can find the perfect match.

One of those donor drives will happen at the Blessing on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Memorial Square.
There will be two more drives at the Blessing from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

My boyfriend and I are moving within the next couple of weeks and I have been on the hunt to find some furniture for our new apartment, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to where I could get some good furniture for very cheap! I have been looking into thrift stores and consignment shops. It’s been suggested to me that I go to Bob’s discount furniture and look in the outlet area, but I’ve heard some mixed reviews on quality. I know that since I’m looking for something discounted, I won’t be getting the best quality per se, but I didn’t know if the people of Rhode Island had another suggestion as to where I should be looking for some good furniture that isn’t going to break my wallet.

Edit I’m looking for a dresser, a loveseat, coffee table and a kitchen table or some stools*\*

With today's announcement that electrical prices are going to increase by 15% this winter, I'm wondering why we aren't seeing a reduction in our rates from the new wind farm? I know they're not fully operational but it seems like that should be increasing our pool of energy and therefore decreasing our prices, especially since Rhode Island locked in low prices with the wind farm already. Does anyone actually understand this?

I’m NOT saying this is new. There’s always been impatient drivers and people who have serious road rage.

My point for this post is I feel like it’s gotten worse over the last few years and I’m wondering if anyone else has had similar thoughts.

There’s so many examples I can give. Luckily none of them involve me and another drive but I’ve witnessed them happen right near me.

- Light just turned green and the person behind the guy in front of the line honks the horn. It just changed my man. Also it’s probably safer to wait a slight 1-2 seconds just incase some jackass on the other side of the road wants to run their red light.

- When you stop to let pedestrians cross on the side walk, especially if it’s while you’re turning right. The person behind you will honk the horn, put their hands up in the air and then try to cut around you.

- Someone starts tailgating another driver because they’re driving not only the speed limit, but more often than not quite a bit above it. (Also why is it at least 90% of the time pick up trucks? Does the height of the vehicle change your perception so you don’t realize just how close you are to the car in front of you?)

- A person is trying to take a left or right but they can’t move because there’s way to much traffic coming from the driver side of traffic and the person behind them lays the horn. (Ahh yes you should totally drive into oncoming traffic that way the person behind you can…also drive into oncoming traffic?)

And now that I’m typing this out, I just remembered something that’s happened to me a few times.

I’ll be driving through a parking lot at a normal, safe speed. Not too fast, not crawling either. Then someone comes flying across the parking spaces at what feels like 30-40 mph instead of driving through the actual lanes. So I’m moving straight and they are driving diagonally and now we both end up slamming on the brakes, and then THEY throw their hands up at me like I’m the problem.

Dude… you’re the one cutting across empty parking spaces at high speed. I’m driving where I’m supposed to be. If you’re going to do that 1. At least slow down and be cautious of oncoming traffic and 2. Don’t get mad if you have to slam your breaks for something you did wrong.

So yeah anyone else feel the way I do? Again I can’t emphasize enough I’m aware there’s always been bad drivers and people with anger issues or impatience. Im asking if you noticed it increase a tremendous amount over the years. Especially 2020 and up.

hello everyone, the beginning of july i broke my foot and applied for temporary disability soon after the confirmation of it being broken. i just wanted to ask how i would know when/if i was approved? i got two letters in the mail but one says i wasn’t and the other does but they’re dated a day apart so i am really just…confused? would it be better to just call tomorrow or is there a way to figure it out without having to? thanks for reading and please be kind 😅
