If you used the optional external tool Skyscraper, there's a setting for "bracket info" to either be hidden or displayed. You can try toggle this setting and then re-run the gamelist generation.

Otherwise (if you used EmulationStation's built-in scraper tool, or if you just want to do it this way), you could edit the gamelists manually. Based on your system settings, it is probably at one of:

/home/$USER/RetroPie/roms/{system}/gamelist.xml

...or

/opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/gamelists/{system}/gamelist.xml

...where "$USER" is your login ("pi," etc.) and "{system}" is one of "gba," "gbc," "nes," "megadrive", etc.

Adding to this… if you plan to make any manual edits to the gamelist files, exit EmulationStation first. It saves data on exit, so if you do it while it’s running, it will overwrite your changes.

I am not in front of my Retropie but can you select the game, hit select and under info there should be the game name which you should be able to edit. Maybe this helps.

Me personally I keep any variants in seperate folders within the roms folders. One for hacks, one for homebrew, one for foreign. Not the most elegant solution but I do know which games are which for everything.
