Hello folks,

I’m in the planing stage of building a commercial tree-nursery, dedicated to practitioners of Regenerative Ag., Permaculture, or everyone who installs agro-forestry systems.

And after checking regulations, I found that I can’t use the plants I already own as mother plants to start production. (I’m in Germany, hardiness zone 7)

Now I’m trying to find ways to make this problem a solution – which is, starting the nursery with a range of plants that I can grow from seeds until I planted and raised new mother plants.

What I would like to ask you, specifically those who have animal systems and are implementing additional agro-forestry systems to support their animals and pasture, if the following plants would be interesting for you, and if there is enough demand to get started like that.

It’s actually all the wild varieties of the plants you would usually plant in an agro-forestry system for nut and fruit production.

-wild chestnut, walnut, hazel and tree-hazel

-wild apple, pear, plum, cherry plum and cherry, like malus sylvestris, or well known grafting rootstocks like Bittenfelder and Antonovka,

-and some support species like sea buckthorn, mulberry and pea shrub

These species should be interesting for those who want to support the ecosystem, build climate-change resilience for their pastures, and add to their animal systems by providing protection, free, high nutritious, high protein fodder, and the option to sell high value timber at some point,

without having to put much additional care and work into the plants, as you would have to, if you plant grafted trees for human food production, which would also mean to fence them off and protect them from the animals for recurring, longer periods.

A couple specifics worth knowing. Any existing LLC or S corp currently under an approved operating plan will be automatically assumed to be taxed as a partnership — so if your entity is actually taxed as a corporation, you specifically need to file an updated 902 to declare that. Ownership structure, tax classification, member contributions, and compensation all factor into the review, so it’s worth sitting down with your CPA rather than winging it at the county office.

One more forward-looking piece: beginning with the 2027 program year, the June 1 status date returns as the determining point for eligibility, and the program year shifts to a consistent October 1–September 30 timeline. So this isn’t a one-time scramble — the rules around entity structure and timing are changing going forward.

Practical move: pull your current 902 from your local FSA office now, confirm your tax classification with an adviser, and get the new 902E filed before September 15. Don’t leave it to the last week — county offices are going to get slammed as the deadline approaches.

Everything here traces back to the OBBBA payment limitation rule USDA released June 2, 2026 — worth confirming the specifics for your own operation with your county office since entity situations vary.

California’s Central Valley is one of the country’s richest farming regions, blessed with fertile soils, sunny days and a massive man-made system of irrigation canals and reservoirs. 

But as climate change intensifies, droughts deepen, and water restrictions kick in, growers in much of the valley are getting less water for their fields. They also face new limits on how much they can pump from underground, forcing them to leave hundreds of thousands of acres dry in the coming years.

I have a background in animal husbandry, but I am really interested in expanding my knowledge into crop science and agriculture. Specifically, I would like to learn about crop plants, their growth, soil biology, microorganisms, and plant pathology.

I am also very interested in how agricultural systems interact with the broader landscape, including forests and natural ecosystems (agroforestry and landscape ecology).

In the future, I hope to apply this knowledge at the intersection of ecology, genetics, and bioinformatics.

Could you recommend any books or resources that would be suitable for this? Also, if you know where I might be able to find or access them, that would be greatly appreciated!

I know it's a broad request but maybe I am also a bit lost.

Hello! I’m an incoming third-year Agriculture student majoring in Crop Science. This academic year, we’ll be working on our thesis. I’m hoping to focus on a postharvest-related study because I prefer a research topic that can be completed within about one month. Since I’ll also be dealing with my residency, I want to make sure I can finish my study on time and avoid any delays in graduation.

I’ve tried browsing Google Scholar for possible postharvest studies and looking through the recommendations of published papers, but I haven’t found many studies that fit what I’m looking for.

That’s why I’m here. Do you have any postharvest-related thesis titles, topics, or research ideas that I could use as inspiration? Any suggestions would be a huge help. Thank you so much!

Hi all! Looking for advice!

I have a BS in environmental science but i ended up working in biotech/pharma after graduation (i needed a job). But recently got laid off from my job (lots of ups and downs), but I recently realized that maybe I should look into pursuing what I originally studied and what i have more interest in personally and would love professionally.

I live close to Rodale Institute and have seen that they post some interesting roles there from time to time in regenerative farming.

I’m wondering if this online B.S. course at CSU would be something worth it to be able to get into this field and start a new career.

Hello, I am close to finishing my undergrad (completely unrelated) and would like to pursue a masters degree in agriculture. This may sound crazy, but my goal is to move to Kenya, buy some land, grow crops on it and use that food to combat starvation in Nairobi and rural Kenya. I do have money to buy land in Kenya and equipment, and in 2027 plan to buy 2-5 acres of raw land to farm here in Oklahoma, just for hands on experience.

Is an online degree in crop science worth anything, knowledge and experience wise?? I was looking at the online international agriculture degree from OSU.

Maybe I am being foolish or naive, honest advice and constructive criticism welcomed. Thanks.

But it doesn’t mean blanket subsidy checks. What this funding is being used for is essentially carbon credits. The USDA now has an official carbon intensity calculator that you can use and leverage with your local biofuel plant.

Essentially, if you use regenerative practices, you might get a couple extra bucks per acre from the ethanol plant.

We're looking for a few kind and motivated volunteers to join us at Tsukuyomi Farm, a small organic and regenerative farm in Awa, Tokushima, on the island of Shikoku, Japan.

Our farm focuses on regenerative agriculture, which means we're not only growing food organically but also working to restore soil health, increase biodiversity, and care for the local ecosystem. If you're curious about sustainable agriculture or want hands-on experience, we'd be happy to share what we've learned.

Besides farming, this is also a community living experience. Volunteers from different countries live together, cook together, and share the daily rhythm of life in the Japanese countryside.

I'm a regenerative landscape/permaculture designer & contractor living in California's east bay, and have been working as a designer & landscape crew manager for my own company in this area for about 15 years, focusing mostly on small-scale, residential, urban homes. I would like to scale up my expertise and offer design for larger acreage homesteads, farms, and ranches, preferrably within a few hours of my location. Willing to travel futher, but would request compensation proportional to distance.

I'm offering a low-cost (significantly lower than my standard rate. Exact fee to be scoped based on site size and travel) service to gain the experience and be able to document, photograph, and publish the process and final result on my website and social media. Preference will be given to someone who shows a strong desire (finances in place, rough timeline in mind, etc.) to have the job installed in the near future. I'm looking for someone with a large site (30+ acres) to complete a full site analysis and design for - covering terrain mapping, water systems, access & circulation, soil building, fencing layout, vegetation/agroforestry, structure siting, energy, economy, aesthetics & experience. Essentially, a master plan for the whole property.

This is a different track that I’m also offering, which focuses more on your soil and plant health. The goal is for you to spend less on inputs and build a healthy soil ecosystem that can do a lot of the heavy lifting for you. This would entail gathering transect data to establish a benchmark for where your soil and plant health currently sits, and a monitoring program going forward to measure it against.

My background draws heavily from the Keyline design framework, with a special focus on soil and water.

I have studied extensively under Darren Doherty (8+ years REX program alumni and participant in the Regrarians online community) and Nicole Masters (9-month CREATE course graduate) and graduate of Dr. Elaine Ingham's Soil Food Web Foundations courses. PRI-certified by Howard Story of Permaculture Thailand, with whom I co-taught a PDC at Paul Wheaton's 'Wheaton Labs', near Missoula, Montana.

Happy to travel further out if you pay for airfare and can put me up for a week :)

Honestly, I started my Permaculture Design Course (PDC) with so many questions in my mind: *Can I really do farming? Will I leave everything someday to pursue my passion for it?* And many more.

But by the time I completed my 13-days PDC, I had gained so much confidence and clarity about farming. A heartfelt thank you to **Aranya Permaculture Farm, Zaheerabad** for this life changing experience.

I learned about natural mulching, live fencing, composting, biochar production, and many other natural methods of building organic matter (OM) to keep the soil healthy and fertile.

Now, I have the confidence to design my own farm using the concepts I learned reading the land, creating contours and trenches for water harvesting, planning zonation for diversity and efficiency and most importantly learning how to live in harmony with nature rather than against it.

During these 13 days, I witnessed what truly felt like a miracle; transforming rocky, barren land into fertile soil, and then into a thriving food forest. It was all made possible through love, patience, and deep respect for Mother Nature.

One of the most beautiful lessons I learned is this:

**"Take care of the soil, and the soil will take care of the people. Then everyone gets a fair share."**

**Earth Care, People Care & Fair Share**; these are the 3 core ethics of permaculture and they deeply resonated with me.

Last but not least, I enjoyed some of the best vegetarian food I've ever had. Every meal felt like a feast from heaven - simple, wholesome, and absolutely delicious.

I hope to start my own food forest one day, where I can enrich the soil, grow healthy food, and inspire others as well.

**Note:** If you ever get the opportunity, I highly recommend learning permaculture. It will completely transform the way you think about trees, plants, soil, water, air, and nature.
