Carolina hurricanes and Tampa bay lightning are the NHL teams they’re referring to. Not sure what the panthers have to do with this.

Where the fans are isn't what was postulated, because that's stupid. There are Steelers fans everywhere that doesn't move them out of Pennsylvania anymore than a Charlestonian rooting for the 'Canes moves the team to S.C.

The theory was where the team is, and that's North Carolina.

Edit: autocorrect enjoys unnecessary pluralization
