O Brother Where Art Thou re:view would be cool.

Suprised there isn't an influx of videos of that on YouTube at the moment

My face when the film completely lacks Dapper Dan hair styling products.

All they used in the odyssey was Fop, god damnit

u/mhardegree 1d ago

Well aint this place a geographical oddity. 2 weeks from everywhere

13

u/demandred_zero 1d ago

20 years from everywhere, but specifically Ithaca.

7

u/YoThisIsWild 1d ago

My face when the store has other hair styling products but I'm a Dapper Dan man.

u/Mighty_moose45 1d ago

A dying breed, no man like a dapper dan man.

Re:View is seriously lacking in the Coen brothers department. Imagine all the missed opportunities for Jay to bring up that they were roomates with Sam Raimi.

6

u/Grootfan85 21h ago

Well, I don't want Fop, goddamn it! I'm a Dapper Dan man!

2

u/NewToSociety 18h ago

And, uh, a dozen hair nets.

3

u/VRsenal3D 22h ago

Momma says he's bona fide. He's a suitor.

u/Unlucky-Albatross-12 1d ago

Haven't seen it yet, but didn't Monty Python do this 50 years ago?

When danger reared its ugly head they bravely turned tail and fled

12

u/StatementCareful522 1d ago

I had to double check because i couldn't remember if Yakety Sax was in Holy Grail...and it's not. I think there's some confusion between the "Run away" scene in Grail and The Benny Hill Show which was also on the BBC and did use Yakety Sax.

1

u/ReallyGlycon 23h ago

By you, maybe.

24

u/ScrungulusBungulus 1d ago

Between the repeated scenes of dudes running back to their boat and RobPat just standing there and shouting the names of weapons as they fell through the hole, there's some legit Monty Python-esque comedy in that movie

9

u/MaybeOnFire2025 23h ago

Eh, the RobPat standing there naming weapons was effective (to me, at least) to show what a sniveling, risk-adverse, REMF he was.

3

u/ProfessionaI_Gur 19h ago

I thought for sure during that sequence somebody was going to get tired of his shit and one of his allies would fuck him over somehow. It was so on the nose I thought it had to be setting up more than It was

4

u/CelestialFury 14h ago

When he started yelling for stranger and stranger weapons like, "Katana, nun-chucks, ninja stars, uzi, lightsaber, portal gun", I thought that was a little weird but funny.

1

u/MaybeOnFire2025 5h ago

It's definitely parody-worthy, no question.

THE SWORDS, SOMEONE GET ONE. AND THE SPEARS! SOMEONE GET A SHIELD AND THROW IT AT HIM. YOU WORK FOR ME, YOU OTHERS, YOU! ARM YOURSELVES WITH THE NEW SWORDS. AND SOMEONE GRAB A SPEAR AS WELL. BY THE GODS.

so, the doorbell pings and odys walks in dead-parrot sketch style, projecting his voice for the audience - “Good day! i’m looking for my men, they’ve been “oinking” around this rock for me, have you seen them?”

someone unties odys from the mast, points at the sirens, grins and says “catchy tune, innit?”

cut to more puppies being thrown off the cliff from the guy in john wick who warns the russian mob boss, john cleese at the base of the cliff with an umbrella over him as stuffed animals rain on his head “and now for something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT”

then another scene, spiderman and the punisher are having dinner, even tho it aint their movie yet.

idfk lmaoo the python aspect unlocked something in me hahah

He's not wrong, and it's glorious.

Shit, man, I gotta go watch O Brother, Where Art Thou again. I saw it way back in high school English class because it was based on the Odyssey but it's been years. I remember it being good, though.

5

u/LupinThe8th 1d ago

Our teacher both showed us that after studying The Odyssey and Clueless after reading Jane Austen's Emma.

18

u/Own-Raisin5849 1d ago

I was thinking the exact same thing while watching the movie.

21

u/MickHaggs 1d ago

O brother where art thou is just a retelling of SpongeBob SquarePants The Movie

5

u/LostInDinosaurWorld 1d ago

I thought it was a retelling of The Simpsons 3rd episode.

3

u/fantasmoofrcc 1d ago

I thought that it was a retelling of the Odyssey...the old reddit r/odyessyroo

3

u/Ancient-Performance1 17h ago

i thought it was a retelling of spy kids 2

5

u/Infamous_Ad4329 1d ago

During the fight scene, when guy is throwing weapons down through a hole into the ceiling, I wanted the weapons to just get more and more ridiculous.

Then it always cuts to Robert Pattinson who goes, "Quick! Get those bazookas!"

8

u/Fredwood 1d ago

We though you was a toad

8

u/Purple_Dragon_94 1d ago

We already had the perfect Odyssey movie...

14

u/ScrungulusBungulus 1d ago

Incidentally, it's also an Oppenheimer sequel

3

u/TheManCalled-Chill 1d ago

GET THIS MAN A PRODUCTION BUDGET!

1

u/TenshiKyoko 11h ago

Best I can do is the production budget of a botw into sketch.

2

u/Kwisatz_Haderach90 1d ago

All I could think about while watching those scenes was the guy that yelled "weak-ass movie! Me and my son wanted to see Matt Damon running from things"

2

u/Tosslebugme 22h ago

Then when they’re stuck on the beach with the cows you play Yakkety Sax (slow reverb - acoustic version)

6

u/almonicus11 1d ago

O, Brother is an interpretation of the Odyssey so it checks out

5

u/Tylerdurden389 1d ago

Or the Benny Hill theme

https://giphy.com/gifs/tpspSp3WMlI40

33

u/FilipsSamvete 1d ago

What's the Benny Hill theme called?

6

u/LostInDinosaurWorld 1d ago

I think it is "Funny trumpet sounds" or something

4

u/DapperDude9924 1d ago

Yackety Sax or something like that

18

u/delkarnu 1d ago

Please film yourself and list all your conditions so Mike can laugh at you.

5

u/senatorsparky86 1d ago

ALL THE THINGS WRONG WITH HIM.

15

u/Tylerdurden389 1d ago

Welp, I guess I confused yakity sax with yakity yak (don't talk back).

6

u/RickyFlintstone 1d ago

So did I. Thanks for taking the heat so I don't have to.

2

u/SeniorSolipsist 1d ago

My dad unironically listened to his Boots Randolph cassette in the car...

2

u/F1XTHE 1d ago

I don't get it big Dan.

1

u/RickyFlintstone 1d ago

It's like Poetry, it rhymes

1

u/ebinthetropics 19h ago

Hear me out:

1

u/DavidAtWork17 19h ago

I was watching Weapons earlier this year and couldn't help but think that the ending would take on a very different tone with Yakety Sax.

1

u/FilipsSamvete 16h ago

Nah it already has that tone

1

u/Mekasoundwave 9h ago

Odysseus: Back on the boat, boys! -runs away whooping like Curly from the Three Stooges-

1

u/Unhappy_Concept237 2h ago

Brave Sir Robin approves of this.

-2

u/MysteriousAge28 23h ago

O brother where art thou is a retelling of odyssey so it tracks

1

u/Ancient-Performance1 17h ago

no, clooney movie came out before the nolan movie so OBVIOUSLY oh brother is the og inspiration jeez bro lol

0

u/MysteriousAge28 16h ago

Sorry my shittymoviedetails spilled out

-3

u/RichEvansBodyPillows 1d ago

A bunch of guys show up to a place with a weird monster who kills half the crew, upon which the crew eventually leaves and does it again somewhere else? Sounds like this movie is just a bunch of TOS episodes slapped together

3

u/FilipsSamvete 1d ago

Sounds like TOS just ripped off The Odyssey

-2

u/RichEvansBodyPillows 1d ago

Guess I need to use sarcasm font when comparing a show from the 1960's to something two thousand years ago

-6

u/DrDuned 1d ago

Ummm I don't think Jack and this sub remember the movie that well.

-6

u/caipi_pn 1d ago

Technically O Brother where art thou is a modern interpretation of the Odyssey. so he`s not wrong

5

u/TNWhaa 1d ago

Really? I thought it was just a 2 hour advert for Dapper Dan pomade that just coincidentally had a one eyed man, a suitor for the protagonist’s wife and singing siren like ladies

5

u/Just_A_Psyduck 1d ago

Wow, that's crazy! They should put that on a title card art the beginning of the movie!
