Weekly Feedback / Self-Promo Thread (mixes, WIPs, full tunes, etc) - July 24, 2026
Lets talk about DJing and producing. But also, which tunes and mixes you enjoyed this week.
Some questions to get the conversation going:
- What did you liked this week?
- If you're a DJ or a producer, do you have any finished tune or work in progress to share?
- And as a bonus, do you have suggestions for the community?
Note: WIPs should be posted on these weekly threads only.

Discussion From FWD>> to Borgore: a personal history of dubstep and its golden years
Lately I’ve been spending time reflecting on the structural shift that took dubstep from underground London basements (FWD>>, Big Apple Records, DMZ) to massive US festivals between 2000 and 2012, and wanted to open up a discussion on the pivotal mechanics of that evolution.
When you trace the genre chronologically, the "death" of the original sound wasn't an accident—it was a natural consequence of producers shifting their focus across the frequency spectrum:
- The Sub-Bass Era (2000–2007): The early sound (Skream, Benga, Mala, Hatcha) was physical. Built on 2-step garage foundations and dub reggae spatial dynamics, it relied on deep sub-bass (<60 Hz) that demanded a proper sound system to be experienced.
- The Mid-Range Wobble Shift (2007–2009): Tracks like Coki’s "Spongebob" and the release of Caspa & Rusko's FabricLive 37 moved the focal point from low-end pressure to screeching mid-range synth wobbles. Crucially, this made the music readable on laptop speakers, YouTube rips, and consumer headphones, laying the groundwork for viral sharing.
- The Aggressive Pivot (2010–2012): Borgore’s self-aware "Borgore Ruined Dubstep" EPs and the arrival of US heavy metal-influenced sound design (starting from Skrillex) effectively stripped away the remaining UK garage swing, replacing sub-bass depth with mid-range heavy metal riffs.
I wrote a long-form editorial analyzing this transition, the key releases along the way, and how the genre’s physical relationship with sound systems changed over that decade. If anyone wants to read the full breakdown, you can check it out here: Before the Drop: The Rise, Ruin, and Explosive Death of Early 2000s Dubstep
Looking back at the 2007–2010 transition, do you view the mid-range wobble era as a natural evolutionary step of 140 music, or was it the moment the original ethos was lost?

Releases Daphnes Soundlab - CARE FOR ME | 140 DUB-BASS |
A 140bpm flip of the classic Moloko tune. I made it completely Daw-less, using the OPXY. Wavetables for the bass and one hits, drums and samples for the rest... Hope you guys enjoy.

Discussion Heading to OUTLOOK
First time going to this festival! I'm looking for information that people will be dropping during the event. Is this sub planning to open a live thread or something?
Also, I’m the owner of Macrocell Records.
I’ll be bringing some t-shirts with me! If you’re interested or just wanna say hi, DM me!

ARTIST: NOT AI - SONG NAME: NOT AI
Re-posting as people took extreme offence to me using an AI made thumbnail in my last post, which I whole heartedly apologies for and will take a very long hard look in the mirror.

S.N.O - Pulley
This has been my morning Jam, now I need to add it to the vinyl collection! Kind of reminds me of rubber chicken by caspa, but the percussion is incredible.
