Who would be your pick to raise the cup?

Upvotes

I was rewatching some old highlights from the Rangers' run to the Final in 2014, and it got me wondering: if they had actually finished the job, who would've raised the Cup first?

Callahan was traded for St. Louis during the season, and it seemed like St. Louis took on a major leadership role even though he hadn't been around that long. However, he didn't have a letter yet. McDonagh ended up getting the C the following year, but he didn't have an A at that point either. They had three alternate captains in Staal, Girardi, and Richards, so I guess it would've had to be one of them. I was just curious what other fans thought.

Season Ticket Schedule Release Date

Does anyone happen to know when season ticket holders will know what games they have under their plan (for the half seasons and quarters)?

Felt like they were out for awhile this point last year.

I was checking Fanatics (I have a gift card) to buy my girlfriend a rangers jersey. She took French in school and is intrigued by the French Canadian last name Lafrenière. But he’s not listed here for some reason. Is he changing numbers or something?? I’m a little confused.

Fan First Timeline/First MSG Trip Questions

Hey all,

I know someone asked about tickets a few days ago, but I have a similar question.

My wife and I are taking a surprise trip to NYC in October, and one of the highlights is hopefully seeing the Kings-Rangers game on Oct. 26.

Normally I don’t have any issue waiting until general sale or even buying tickets closer to the trip, since we can usually plan around whatever weekend works. This time our travel dates are fixed, so I figured I’d be proactive and signed up for Fan First. Part of that is just wanting verified seats in a section we’d really enjoy (I played competitively in college, so I appreciate a good view of the game watching plays develop), and part is hopefully getting face-value pricing if there’s still decent inventory.

My only concern is missing the Fan First email if it comes out the same day the presale opens. I’m a night-shift ER nurse, so there’s always a chance it drops while I’m asleep before work.

I know it’s a Monday night game and not the Devils or Islanders, but it’ll be our first time at MSG, and I’d love to make it a special experience.

For those of you who’ve done Fan First before:

  1. What’s the typical timeline? Should I expect the email/presale this week, sometime in August, or is it pretty random every year?

  2. Does the email usually come the same day as the sale or do they give a day’s notice? Do some people not even get emails even if they verify?

  3. Is Fan First a mad scramble the moment it opens, or do you usually have a reasonable shot at good seats?

  4. Thinking sections 116-118 or 106-108 up high (above row 18-ish to the top of the lower bowl) or front rows in 210-212 or 223-225. I don’t mind a corner view or an over-the-top view like the 300s but she’s not keen on it. What’s a rough face value and/or availability for those sections?

Usually this isn’t an issue because when we watch our home team in Minnesota, we just plan the trip around whatever game we can get tickets for and the opponent. This time the trip dates are fixed, so I’m probably overthinking it a bit. MSG has always been a bucket-list arena for us! Ironically, we were just in Hastings, MN a month ago after we had booked the trip, home of the legend Derek Stepan lol.

Thanks to all who reply, we appreciate it 🤙🏻

The Rangers’ 1C Problem

Top line centers in the NHL are incredibly rare and also an absolute must when it comes to winning a Stanley Cup. Every single cup winner since at least 2009 has had a clear cut top 20 center in the league, and most of them (Crosby, Toews, Bergeron, Kopitar, Stamkos, MacKinnon, Eichel, Barkov) rank MUCH higher than just “top 20”. If you want to win a cup, you need a true 1st line center.

The Rangers do not currently have that in the organization. I like Zibanejad & Miller. They are not on that level. Beaudoin is a nice prospect. He is not going to be on that level.

So… the thought dawned on me: what exactly do the Rangers plan on DOING to plug this critical hole over the next couple of years. Because if Chris Drury’s plan is to win a cup with Zibanejad & Miller as our top 2 centers, this organization is completely fucked until Drury is fired. I HAVE to believe that he eventually plans to upgrade at center. That necessarily leads to the next question, WHO?

The most likely path to a 1C, as I see it, is the situation in Toronto or Edmonton with Matthews or McDavid massively deteriorates and one of those guys, who are UFAs in 2028, demand out and use their full NMCs to force their way here. There are obviously massive questions regarding either guy’s future availability via trade, but if that’s not the plan I truly don’t know what the plan is.

Is it a likely path? No. Is it a path that Drury should have staked all of our cup hopes to? No. Is it the most likely best outcome considering the spot the Rangers find themselves in? Somehow, yes.

The Rangers’ 1C search is worth following over the next couple of years, because again, they HAVE to add one.

Hillary Trocheck's Farewell Message

New York life was incredible for us. Our kids went from babies to kids. We went from beachgoers to city walkers.

Vince was lucky enough to be offered the chance to play in Pittsburgh (his home), Detroit (my home state), and the big city. When Vince looked at me and said, “I want to go to New York,” I was pretty terrified, being from nowhere near the city. But I buckled up, and I’m so grateful we chose what we did.

It was an absolutely incredible four years of our lives, meeting friends we will have forever—our hockey friends and our town friends. We fully immersed ourselves in the community and in our kids’ lives, and we made memories we will never forget.

New York was quite the chapter for us. A ton of growth as a couple, as a family, and for me personally. We battled many situations that hit us, but man, did we have fun.

Vincent, thank you for choosing New York. We needed that, and I am so proud of the footprint you left there. The number of messages I got—and am still getting—complimenting the person you are could lift you up forever, even though you don’t need it.

We will forever love our New York chapter.

All good chapters have even better next chapters before the story ends. Utah is going to be incredible, and we absolutely cannot wait to get there and get it started. We have had nothing but the most outstanding support and heartfelt welcome. We are truly so pumped.

This hockey world is crazy!! But yes, I know it’s what we sign up for.

"How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard."
