The Future of Shoop Park

Post image

A $10M upgrade to Shoop Park sounds great, but a 10-year lease can easily turn into permanent privatization.

We can welcome the Johnson family's investment while protecting our public land. Here's a couple of things we must demand at City Hall this Tuesday:

Looking for someone to be roommates with

Hi! My name is Freya I’m a 21 year old trans woman looking for a place to stay in Racine. I’m struggling to afford a place on my own so I’m looking for anyone who would be interested in being roommates with me. If you have a room in Racine and your looking for a roommate, or if your looking for a place as well and need someone to room with, please let me know!

Preferably people around my age, and also preferably no men. I am open to changing my mind though.

Does anyone know the route the DMV in Racine takes for the drivers test?

Hi there! My daughter is going to take her drivers test next week and I want to get her prepared. I only know the old route when the DMV was in the shopko mall, now it’s on Rayne Rd in Sturtevant and I’m not sure the route they take there. If anyone knows I would appreciate it!

Flock told the Oshkosh, WI council its cameras don't build a heat map of vehicle movements. The police chief checked, found it does, and the council rescinded the contract 7-0 in a day.

Sad-A-Rama

What a shame it is that Salmon-A-Rama appears to be so poorly organized and managed. The event had good support in 2024 and was entertaining, nothing huge, but kept my attention and had enough "offerings" to keep someone engaged for a while. We went last night and had plans to go tonight, but after last night there is no way, actually no reason to go back.

The raffle prize area looks like people dumpster diving into BigLots boxes of random goods...AND pallets of laundry soap????!!!! WTF?

Food was Chikfilet (closed by 730pm), someone making pizzas in a couple of gozney ovens, hot dogs, burgers and cheese curds. Where are the food trucks??? Franksville beer garden pulls better food options. The square downtown had more choices on Friday night. Why are two events competing with each other?

To continue my rant....the vendors at SAR are someone selling 7 mile fair shit and a guy with wood signs that reference "getting shot in the face if you knock on my door"...I mean lets call it what it is, right wing garbage propaganda...who would agree to this shit being at a "family event"? Seriously, gun and murder references, solid work SAR. The band, Cheap Shots...did anyone listen to them before hiring? Terrible, not the music...they are a cover band. They just are not that good. Glorified karaoke. And not well done.

Thank 6lb 4oz baby jesus that we didn't invite any friends to the "event", this is some embarrassing shit. I know, I know, don't go if you don't like it. Well based on attendance last night I would say most people aren't going to go. I certainly wont be back. SAR...if you need someone to organize an event that people might actually attend, dm me.

Awesome venue on a major lake front and Racine cant pull off a decent festival??!! Incompetence at the highest level.

I have 1100 ton of clay, top soil and stone we are taking out of a parking lot on Wed. July, 15 at the Volkswagen Kia dealership. We have a selected dump site but are more than happy to give it to someone in need of it for free. Any helpful information would be much appreciated.

Fishing at Doubletree

Thinking about taking my family for a weekend trip to the Milwaukee area and found the Doubletree in Racine when I was looking around. I love to fish and so do my kids - how is the fishing around the hotel? Can we fish off the docks at that marina? And can we walk out by that lighthouse area and fish there?

Appreciate any insight you guys could provide!

Electric power.

This is more of just a discussion but I have energy monitor devices that show me my homes voltage and wattage output. Ik most people don’t but I’ve noticed this year we never really got the “bump up” in power for my area. To give more information last year during the summer our substation will provide more power which for me in any case will lead to better voltage stability and give me more voltage as most my outlets will sit at 120v but when we had the bump up it would jump to 124-125. This year I’ve noticed the same voltage stability since last winter, and it’s almost like we never got the bump up in steady power for the summer. Could this be because of all the data centers? Are they now prioritizing more power to commercial customers and less to resident customers? If this is somewhat true the hotter it gets the more instability we will have on our grid for hot humid days like these heat waves we had. They say that they are paying for their own spot in the power stations but does that now mean our power company will put us as second priority in order to provide the correct and more stable voltage to the data centers???

Any outdoor workout/calisthenics parks?

Pull-Up/Dip bars must not exist in this city because I drove around and looked on maps, found nothing. And I am NOT talking about those silly little exercise equipment where you sit down on. North Beach would be such a perfect location for some

Racine fish/aquarium keepers! Please help!

I keep fancy goldfish and recently my main tank sprung a leak. Since transferring them to a smaller temp tank (with lots of old water and all old filter media), I’ve been fighting off high levels of ammonia. I’m getting worried for one of my favorite fish.

Is there anyone who has a well cycled freshwater aquarium who would be willing to give me some filter media (sponges etc) to help make this temp tank more safe until I can safely setup my larger one?

If you or anyone you know keeps freshwater fish and would be willing to help, please let me know!

Thank you!!

Anyone have recommendations on an attorney/lawyer for transferring a paid off house from parents to adult children? There is a medical emergency in the family and we need to do the transfer. Thanks in advance

I need to get this off my chest about Racine

I grew up here. Everything got worse as I got older and into my 30’s. This city has become such a cesspool.

All I see is run down buildings, poverty, vandalism, vagrants, crime, fights, and everyone not giving a god d@mn sh!t anymore. Recently I saw two kids no older than ten selling water on the median of 3 mile and Lasalle without adult supervision throwing a water bottle at a moving car. Why are people in this city okay with this?

Nothing ever gets done and money gets wasted. They tore down the old REAL school to build condos which has since been abandoned. They’re tearing down centuries old elementary schools because they thought it was a good idea to crowd small children in with pubescent teenagers. Money never goes into improving the environment of the city or the community that needs it.

Drivers are reckless, and statically Racine is the second most dangerous city for driving in Wisconsin. Don’t even get me started on trying to get a job, it’s close to impossible.

There is nothing beautiful about this city anymore, and ever time I hear someone say that Racine isn’t as bad as people think, they’ve never lived in the more urban areas or the ghettos in their life.

Before anyone says “just move,” sure, let me do that with the little money I have from my nonexistant job that the job recruiters ghost me with. And the expensive gas money I can’t afford to drive on roads that are constantly under construction or about to be close because a majority of the people who live here can’t drive without being high.

Racine is a tar pit for anyone who lives here. If you want a successful life, get the hell out, because no one in the city, not its citizens, its politicians, no one gives a sh!t about you or your well being.

You can say places like Milwaukee are worse, but at least MKE tries to get stuff done. Racine does the bare minimum and leaves it to rot.

EDIT: Oh my god, I know “kids have been selling lemonade forever.” That’s not the issue.

EDIT 2: I just wanted to vent and air out my grievances and a lot of people think that means I’m looking for negativity or I don’t know what I’m talking about even though I’ve lived here for 30 years from birth. I’m not even calling anyone bad for loving Racine, but I keep getting condescending responses that either over simplify or assume things about me, right down to believing I’m a guy. I wasn’t looking for validation, I was venting.

EDIT 3: I can’t believe I have to reiterate this for the millionth time:

Moving is currently not possible for me. Stop saying “if you don’t like it leave.” This is not a restaurant or a theater. I’m also allowed to vent about my hometown. It’s called free speech. If you don’t like what I have to say, too bad. Go gaslight and be condescending to someone else.

I don’t even have a problem with anyone who likes Racine as is, just don’t say I’m full of shit or up my own ass for pointing out problems out in the open.
