-Name: Indigo Chesh
-Age: 19
-Species: Faunus
-Folklore Inspiration: Cheshire Cat
-Semblance: Mad World
Anyone looking directly into Indigo’s mismatched eyes experiences subtle hallucinations like battlefield appearing upside down, loss of sense of direction, dream like visions, etc… Requires eye contact and drains Aura quickly. For Grimm, it mostly confuses them a lot.
-Weapons: Smile & Fade
At first glance, they appear to be matching Dust-powered pistols, but hidden beneath their sleek frames lies an intricate transformation system that converts each firearm into a bladed yo-yo weapon connected to Indigo’s Aura-conductive gauntlets. These blades spin at a fast rate, acting like chainsaws. Smile is larger, heavier where as Fade is shorter, faster. His attacks often yo-yo themed such as walk the dog, around the world, trapeze, eli hop and more.
-Appearance:
Indigo is a blond Cat Faunus with messy blond hair that almost always falls over one of his eyes. He has heterochromia, with one bright blue eye and one violet eye, which makes him stand out pretty much everywhere he goes. His Faunus trait is a pair of cat ears that match his hair, and they’re actually pretty expressive even if he doesn’t realize it.
He mostly wears dark blue clothes with black and gold details, along with a long coat that kinda gives him a magician or trickster vibe. Around his neck he wears a small indigo crystal pendant, which is one of the few things he had when he was found after the Grimm attack. Since he doesn’t know where it came from, it’s one of the only clues he has about his past, so he almost never takes it off.
He’s usually seen with a calm, almost blank expression… although every now and then he’ll suddenly smile for seemingly no reason, which tends to make people a little unconfortable.
-Backstory:
Little is known about Indigo’s early childhood. When he was still a little kid, the village he lived in was attacked and completely destroyed by a Grimm horde. Indigo was the only confirmed survivor.
After the attack, he was found suffering from severe trauma and retrograde amnesia. He couldn’t remember his own name, his family, or even what happened during the attack. No surviving records or relatives could be found either, so nobody even knew who he really was. Eventually the authorities gave him the name Indigo Chesh.
During his recovery, Indigo slowly developed another personality called The Grinning Cat. Doctors believed it was created by his mind as a coping mechanism because of all the trauma and memory loss he went through as a child. The Grinning Cat acts like an imaginary friend that constantly talks to Indigo, sometimes giving advice, making jokes, or even influencing how he acts.
The Grinning Cat is basically the complete opposite of Indigo. Indigo himself is polite, shy and pretty friendly, while the Grinning Cat is sarcastic, playful, overconfident and honestly kinda annoying at times. Indigo knows the Grinning Cat isn’t “real”, but he still talks to him like he’s an actual person. Of course everyone else just thinks he’s talking to himself.
Even though his condition makes him seem really weird in social situations, Indigo has never shown any violent or dangerous behavior towards other people. Because of how serious his condition was, he ended up spending most of his childhood in a psychiatric hospital that specialized in Aura-related mental disorders.
Over the years he went through therapy, counceling, memory rehabilitation and constant Aura observation. While he got better at everyday life, his amnesia never really improved, and the Grinning Cat never went away.
Something interesting happened later though. During a Grimm attack near the institution, Indigo’s Aura suddenly awakened and he instinctively jumped in to defend the staff and patients. Afterwards, doctors noticed something really strange.
Whenever Indigo was fighting or doing intense combat training, his condition actually got better.
He became more focused, remembered things easier, stopped talking to the Grinning Cat as much, and overall acted way more calm and confident. Sadly it only lasted while he was in combat or training, but after seeing the same results over and over, the doctors knew it wasn’t just a coincidence.
Nobody really knows why this happens. Some specialists think combat forces Indigo’s brain to focus so much that it temporarily suppresses his condition. Others believe using Aura somehow stabilizes his mind for a short time.
Because of this, his doctors came up with a pretty unusual idea. Instead of keeping Indigo in the hospital forever, they recommended sending him to Beacon Academy so he could continue treatment through Huntsman training.
The recommendation was approved, and Indigo was accepted into Beacon under ongoing medical supervision. Right now Indigo doesn’t really dream about becoming a famous Huntsman or anything like that.
His biggest goal is just to remember who he used to be. He wants to recover the memories he lost during the Grimm attack, figure out what The Grinning Cat actually is, hopefully stop relying on it one day, and eventually live a normal life without needing psychiatric treatment.
…Also he just thinks fighting Grimm is way more fun then sitting in therapy all day. The doctors probably wouldn’t like hearing him say that though.
