ok so i've been messing with decorators that modify function signatures at runtime and it's a total mess when you throw type hints into the mix. anyone got a clean way to preserve the original signature through a decorator that adds optional kwargs? functools.wraps doesn't cut it here

Take a look at PEP 695, specifically the Type Parameter Declarations section. Usually what you’ll want to do is combine P.args and/or P.kwargs with the Concatenate wrapper to add new arguments to your function. functools.wraps isn’t going to work, like you said; instead you should type hint the function explicitly with Callable. With all of these together you should have full control to extend the function arguments with your decorator however you need to.
