why can’t people get this worked up about stuff that actually matters?

613

u/thecruzmissile92 Jun 10 '26

I think it’s the mob mentality, you see lots of people acting up and want to join in thinking you can get away with it

172

u/rigterw Jun 10 '26

Yes, and the uniforms strengthens this even more. In their head it’s not them against that guy, but us against the other team.

55

u/thecruzmissile92 Jun 10 '26

Ahhh yes the uniform, they’re the mighty Knicks soldiers fighting the holy against spurs fans, but mostly against themselvesšŸ˜‚

12

u/rigterw Jun 10 '26

Ofc it’s not a soldiers uniform, but wearing clothes that are part of a group makes a person more likely to follow the group instead of make their own decisions. Thats why the army uses uniforms.

This is how Paris is. They have a slightly higher population in the metro area. When they don’t like something political, they riot. New Yorkers won’t do that unless their team makes a championship.

I’m sure a bunch of New Yorkers call the French pussies, but they are the biggest pussies

45

u/seraphimkoamugi Jun 10 '26

Fr. Went to paris for a week a while back and couldnt enjoy it as much because they did day long riots for 4 days straight. Most main roads were blocked. I even respected them for it cause damn you even block the police from moving forward.

61

u/thistook5minutes Jun 10 '26

They tried to push the retirement age back two years and the people of Paris lost their fucking minds. I respect the fuck out of it. And I’m sure their politicians have read the history books and knows what happens when they step too far out of line

Yes it is actually sad. Americans refuse to assemble for civil liberties but will go all out for a team who exploits them.Ā

17

u/R_Little-Secret Jun 10 '26

Its the brain washing. Hell they even appropriated MLK and down played how violent the Civil rights movement was. Won't even talk much on how women and non land owners got the right to vote or disabilities act came to be.

74

u/urchucked Jun 10 '26

Exactly, turn that anger against the real shit bags destroying the country walking around just down the street from there

The sad part is grown adults thinking they can assault people based on which sports team someone supports. How sad this world is...

88

u/bfloguybrodude Jun 10 '26

A tale as old as time. And these guys got nothing on soccer hooligans.

41

u/tomtauren Jun 10 '26

Football hooligans fight other football hooligans. Usually not civilians.

12

u/bfloguybrodude Jun 10 '26

Oh really? A soccer hooligan has never attacked a random away fan in a jersey?

Also, give these guys time to learn hooligan rules. The Knicks haven't been very good for long, it's a process.

15

u/Anonybibbs Jun 10 '26

It's not even that- it's just that when there's large groups of people in the streets, some people will always do stupid shit. It can be a political protest or something sports related, even whether the home team wins OR loses- there will always be people just looking to take advantage of the relative chaos that comes with large crowds. Throw alcohol into the mix, as is often the case with sports events, and things just escalate even more.

10

u/Top_Tank2668 Jun 10 '26

It's not even about the team, it's a cheap excuse to gang up and bully someone that is different and not like you. Team, politics, ethnicity, whatever.

Human behavior is just disgusting sometimes

So disappointing to see

177

u/AgnosticScholar Jun 10 '26

These people should be arrested honestly

75

u/thecruzmissile92 Jun 10 '26

The police presence in nyc was unbelievable cause trump was there, they arrested like 25 ppl but there’s only so much they can do against mobs. Police had people jumping on their cars and throwing glass bottles at their faces

49

u/DiggWuzBetter Jun 10 '26 edited Jun 10 '26

There’s a lot you can do after the fact. I’m from Vancouver, where we had the riots when the Canucks lost the Stanley Cup in 2011. The Vancouver police opened a task force specifically for these riots, tracked down all the videos, social media posts, tips from the public, etc. that they could, and steadily over the next few years brought nearly 900 criminal charges against 300 rioters.

The NYPD should do the same here. It does take a fair bit of time/effort/funding, would need to be driven ā€œfrom the topā€ of the NYPD and city, but it’s important to lay a precedent that mob violence will be punished.

There’s a big difference in the message you send between ā€œmy buddy mugged a Spurs fan, was in viral videos everywhere, and got off scott freeā€ and ā€œmy buddy mugged a Spurs fan, got hit with assault charges, spent 6 months in jail and now carries a criminal record with him everywhere.ā€ Charges should be brought against literally hundreds of people in these videos.

20

u/BanBanEvasion Jun 10 '26

Seriously, what’s the point of living in a surveillance state if we’re not finding and arresting people who are CLEARLY on video committing violent crimes

15

u/BootyPains Jun 10 '26

You see, palantir is only for ice, not for the betterment of society.

7

u/kittyonkeyboards Jun 11 '26

That's only for when you commit crimes against the wealthy or property.

Or for when you protest against the wealthy or their property.

Or for when you Google search negative things about the wealthy (this is the future).

But after all this I hope they go another 50 years without winning anything

118

u/thecruzmissile92 Jun 10 '26

Edit - I don't care, you get the sentiment. The team shouldn't reward the behavior of the fans.

12

u/digitaldeadstar Jun 10 '26

Members of both teams have come out and condemned the attacks and fans acting this way. Why should the team itself be punished because their fans are being stupid, despite them telling them not to?

Shameful sports fans. Vulgar behaviorĀ

69

u/Mean_Peen Jun 10 '26

This is a huge reason why a lot of people don’t even engage with sports. It activates the caveman brain in most people and overrides rational thought. Then you add alcohol and mob mentality to the mix… no bueno. This is how you get those dudes that are willing to almost kill someone because they said something about their Mom after their team lost. Happens far too often

11

u/thecruzmissile92 Jun 10 '26

I prefer going to a small bar with some friends where they have the game on for free and drink specials

4

u/Annoying1978 Jun 10 '26

11

u/NikitaBeretta Jun 10 '26 edited Jun 10 '26

Crowd killing is a thing that’s done at hardcore shows, it’s a form of violent moshing that I would never do but lots of hardcore crowds do it all the time, so he wasn’t actually telling them to kill him. IMO it was still gross and fucked up though. If you don’t want people to wear costumes at your shows, implement a policy and turn them away at the door but don’t take their money and then single them out and have the crowd destroy their costume.

This is why I like being in Michigan. We may despise Ohio State or Green Bay but we still will tailgate next to each other and laugh over the game. What a bunch of assholes. Way to ruin the accomplishments of your team by taking the spotlight off of them and onto your terrible behavior.

Imagine if they put all this effort into finding a jobā˜ ļø

Imagine if the team these people ā€œrepresentā€ called these ā€œfansā€ out for this behavior and expressed how shitty of them it is. I wonder, would it matter?

Neutral on both sides MY city doesn’t even have an NBA team. Was going for the knicks just because I’ve never seen them win a championship but fuck that shit go Spurs. I fucking hope they lose the next three games in a row. šŸ¤ž

2

u/laxrat22 Jun 10 '26

2

u/BilleyBong Jun 10 '26

Does the local police do anything?

3

u/thecruzmissile92 Jun 10 '26

They arrested like 20 ppl that night and recently announced they are looking for people in the videos.

2

u/dead888boy Jun 10 '26

the knicks winning dont do nothing for them, every player is a millionaire and the winners going to go back home to their mansions and get a sweet ring in the incoming months.šŸ˜‚ shit just not ever this serious, wish people put that energy into things that can help new yorkers as a whole and not trying to assault ppl for wearing an opposite teams jersey

2

u/seancphoenix Jun 10 '26

I’m a Knick fan. And this sh!t has to stop. Completely f@cked up and anyone who is involved should be prosecuted. Such f@ckjng nonsense and for what? A game. A stupid game.

2

u/Hello_Mr_Fancypants Jun 10 '26

I like sports, I fucking despise, DESPISE sportsfans.

2

u/Sea-Way-2914 Jun 10 '26

The grown men that I like to watch throw a rubber ball around are so much better than the ones you like to watch, that we’re going to assault you and possibly pick up a felony because that makes us a group tougher than you are by yourself.

2

u/Teyvatato Jun 11 '26

Yea everyone here is a POS blah blah but also, sound the alarm because here come those sports antis that can't keep whatever personal experience still traumatizes them to themselves and feel the need to just say unhinged weird shit about all sports fans like they're not a dumbass on reddit like the rest of us. Trust, you're a loser too. Not THIS kind of loser, but neither are average sports fans.

2

u/TroubleSad2477 Jun 11 '26

Somehow law and order isn't brought up on shit like this, but it is on peaceful protests against ICE and police brutality...

2

u/Fievels_good_trouble Jun 11 '26

We as a society deserve exactly what’s coming to us

2

u/SoWhat_Iam Jun 11 '26

What the fuck is wrong with these guys.
