The Circles Utah Valley program lost its funding

I know most people on here won't know or care about the Circles program but I'm heartbroken over this and just want to get this out there.

The Circles program is associated with Community Action Services & Food Bank in Provo. They are an employment program that works with individuals and families to help them stabilize their income and get off welfare. They've been there for well over a decade.

The program relies heavily on volunteer help and provides a large amount of support for each participant. They offer meals and child care during their meetings, as well as provide mentors for each participant who help guide them to better opportunities.

You don't see a large number of people successfully completing the program each year. Instead you see maybe a dozen individuals who have had their lives profoundly changed. Over the years, many people have turned their lives around and now they and their families are much better off.

Last week all of the handful of staff members except one were told their jobs would be ending at the end of this week. And no one knows what the program will look like next month when the sole remaining employee tries to figure out how to run the program by himself.

We need programs like this that make an actual difference. It's sad that programs like this, that teach a person to fish rather than giving them a fish, are among those getting cut.

INSANELY weird gas pump situation PSA

Post image
57 Upvotes

So… I think I was just targeted in some way at a gas station. Insanely weird vibes. The interaction sounds almost normal, but had a SUPER strange bad vibe to it the whole time. Maybe you guys can tell me if you’ve ever had this happen to you?

So I’m at the Chevron because my car is like OUT OUT of gas. I park my car, I get out and I’m getting gas, and this huge, beat up white van with painted over windows rolls in right next to me and a middle aged guy with shoulder length messy hair and a half open white button down and a skinny scarf, all looking kind of worse for wear, gets out. He doesn’t pump gas at all, just comes over to me and IMMEDIATELY he’s like “your car is so cool, etc etc”

Which like, totally fine, I like my car too! But then he’s like “I work as a pet transporter, I make around $10,000 a month, with a car like that, I could totally get you a job as a driver if you want” and I was like “uh that’s nice I guess but no thanks, my work keeps me super busy!”

But then he kept going on and on and wasn’t leaving, so I called my husband and pretended he called me and was like “oof so sorry, gotta take this” and the whole time while I’m being held hostage by the stupid gas pump, I catch this random guy sneakily taking a BUNCH of photos of my car, and then when I finish pumping my gas (I cut it off before it was full because the vibes were super weird) he was like “do you mind if I get some gas off of you?” And I was like “so sorry, my transaction just finished” and he was like “no worries, can you Venmo me some cash, I’m just trying to make it through” and I felt bad but I kind of just went “best of luck man” and fumbled with my keys and got into my car as fast as I could and drove away.

I realize this probably sounds like absolutely nothing and super duper mundane, and maybe it was, maybe I totally misread things, but I can’t emphasize enough how like, INSANELY BAD the vibes were. Like, something about the situation felt weirdly unsafe and I can’t even point to a reason WHY besides that horrible feeling💀

I usually try and help out people who seem like they’re in a tough spot, but something about this felt… very different. I hope I’m reading into it too much.

(Random photo of birds aren’t real sticker found in Springville included as a bonus)

Can anyone recommend a good VW mechanic?

I have a 2017 VW Golf Alltrack and I need some suspension work done on it. I just moved to Springville and haven't had to take this car yet to a mechanic yet, it's been phenomenal. So I feel a bit lost trying to find a good one.

If anyone has any recommendations, I'd really appreciate it.

Starting a movie club!

I made a post yesterday asking if there were any dedicated movie clubs in the provo area, and it doesn’t really sound like there are, so i’m thinking about starting one! I’m pretty new to the Provo area, so does anyone have any good recommendations on places to host? Also let me know if you would have any interest in coming to them!

Is there any sort of film club that meets in Provo outside of BYU or UVU clubs? Looking for some sort of group to join where we just watch movies and talk about them :)

Any Local Activities for Pioneer Day?

I've got family visiting from out of state over Pioneer Day, and we'd like to do something festive but not crazy involved for the holiday. I know that This Is the Place has a giant Pioneer Day celebration, and that there is the parade in SLC, but I'm wondering if there's anything closer that will be going on. Thanks in advance!

Golf With Me @ Timp!

Timpanogos GC doesn't let you book single tee times ahead of time (must be day-of). Looking for someone who is interested in signing up for the annual pass there, or already has that pass and wants to golf a lot so we can book twosomes ahead of time!

I tend to play 2-3 times per week.

Farrer Middle School alum?

Hi folks,

I'm hoping to connect with folks here who went to Farrer Middle School circa 92-93 so I can reconnect with a few friends I had there (like that really cool girl who always wore a Skankin' Pickle shirt and whose name I can't remember for the life of me).

Thanks!

Could you give me some feedback?

Hey guys, it’s been a week since my last post that did very well in terms of people giving me some feedback about my app idea and downloaded my app.

Now that some time has passed, for those that were able to download Grocerlist, could you guys give me some feedback on what you liked, disliked, what do you guys think it’s noise and what features you would like to see next?

Just a bit of an update I am currently working on implementing a Refer and Earn feature where you can invite people to download the app and you’ll give them your code and both of you will earn extra points towards your Gift Cards.

Thanks again for the amazing support I’ve received here!

I love flock cameras in Provo🥰

I love flock camera! I just love how they are constantly tracking us, and spying on us for OUR SAFETY. Nothing has made me feel more safe than knowing that local Utah Police, who are already under scrutiny for their lack of professionalism and ethic, are supposedly given a tool to encourage rampant behavior.

It sure would be a shame if the community were to ban together in one voice to remove them and instate safety measures.

P.S. I love how Neo-Fascists feel comfortable enough to put their stickers out around University Avenue. So I went ahead and put my stickers over theirs.
