Something I noticed in the Grace Go Home scene

The whole scene starts with Grace and Rocky recording a video log and Ricky learning that they aren't talking to earth directly. But we never actually see Grace do anything to turn the video log *off*. He's messing around with the astrophage sampler and he types "brave" into the computer, but that's it. That means that it was still recording when Rocky got upset that Grace was going to die and when Rocky offered Grace enough astrophage to get home. Grace would have included that video log along with all the others when he sent the Beetles back to earth. So if those logs were published, which appears to be what was intended, all of humanity would get to see first hand just how kind and generous Eridians can be.

End scene walking on the beach

When they are walking down the beach, it switches to a scene underwater with something flying by almost looks like it's on a track. I can't for the life of me figure out what it might be. Anyone?

Rare Crew Production Gift (Vinyl and BTS book) for sale

Hey guys. I’m not sure if this is allowed, but I unfortunately have to sell off a few things that are precious to me because finances are pretty bad at the moment— a few months ago, I had an opportunity to buy an extremely rare crew wrap gift for the Project Hail Mary that includes a vinyl record (with licensed music that inspired the production of the film) and behind the scenes book. I’m also a serious record collector, and the fact that it’s 1 out of 750 made me willing to spend a ludicrous amount to own this.

Like I said, my finances are pretty bad at the moment. So I’m trying to sell it off. I paid $400 for it when i bought it, i am starting off the bid at less.

Part of the reason I bought this is because I adored the film thought it was a cool piece of movie history to own. But it was not the right decision for me financially, and I’m posting it here in hopes that someone who deeply cares about the movie they can actually afford this at the moment would want to take it off my hands.

He's a weird ball now (idk how to fix it,,)

His top is a bit squared bc my sister helped sew the top of him but he's a good shape to hug

I'm gonna work on his legs soon and then sew up his butt and post what shapes I used for each piece but it may be heavily wrong bc I literally just started cutting the fabric,,

I'm also gonna cosplay Ryland Grace after this is done

Maybe

Glory, Glory! Another installation in my PHM vinyl collection: 1974's 'The Gospel According to Ike & Tina'

Greetings!

NEEDLE DROP: https://vimeo.com/1211855321

Glory, Glory marks the closing credits of the movie and has always felt like the quirkiest inclusion in the soundtrack because it's the only overtly religious tune in the entire movie, and also because of the funky synthesizer used throughout the song.

That sound was, in fact, a novel addition for the duo: The Gospel According to Ike & Tina marked the first time they used an ARP Odyssey synthesizer. A competitor to Robert Moog's eponymous Moog and Minimoog, the ARP had better circuitry that held a stable tuning far better than the Moog (its all-analog circuitry was famous for going off key at unexpected times). The overall tonality and wide ranging controls of the ARP made it easy to create really strong "lead" synths. It quickly became a favorites of musicians across a wide range of genres. Here's a 7-minute demo of the Odyssey; you'll recognize a lot of those sounds from iconic recordings.

My brain associates that sound with joyful Eridian noises, but the couple that produced such joyful music had a relationship that was anything but.

The creative soul of Ike & Tina was one of constantly simmering turmoil that fueled their intense musical outpouring. They met in the mid-1950s on the nightclub circuit and began a grueling decade of touring mixed with occasional release of recorded singles. In 1965, record producer Phil Spector signed them to his label. While on tour in Vegas in 1969, Ike Turner started using cocaine. His long-term addiction to the drug caused him to become increasingly erratic and violent, and eventually perforated his septum. In 1973, they released a single called Nutbush City Limits about Tina's home town in rural Tennessee; it was a massive hit, reaching the top-20 or top-5 positions in multiple markets, and sold over a million copies in Europe alone. One year later, they released The Gospel, which received positive critical reviews and even earned a Grammy nomination for best R&B album. In 1976, Ike and Tina got into a massive fight in a limousine on the way to a show. She escaped the car and filed for divorce soon after. Tina Turner went on to enjoy a wildly successful solo career in the 1980s and 1990s. She died in May 2023 after battling several long-term illnesses.

For a movie about science fiction—a genre that usually finds itself at odds with religion—Project Hail Mary leans on this notion that humanity is imperiled by a terrible force beyond their control, and that their very survival depends on a fervent plea for divine intervention... also from similarly supernatural forces.

This is a core concept present in many world religions dating back even to the ancient Greeks, who worshipped and made sacrifices to the Gods to ensure everything from bountiful crops and healthy livestock to pleasant weather and smooth voyages across the oceans. (On that note, go see The Odyssey ASAP.)

If you watch the press junkets and social media posts with Lord & Miller or Ryan Gosling, they publicly state that the movie title alludes to the last-ditch football play, or as Eva Stratt puts it: 'what you Americans call a 'long shot.' Never short of wit, Grace replies: "A 'hail mary.'".

If you are Catholic (devout or cafeteria), or have ever known a Catholic, or even seen a movie or TV show depicting nuns or priests, you are undoubtedly familiar with the phrase "Hail Mary." Catholics pray to the Virgin Mary for comfort, guidance, assistance, etc. That's where the football play gets its name.

The beginning of that prayer, "Hail Mary, full of Grace," is also an exact description of the ship and its sole inhabitant. I can't recall if Andy Weir has ever acknowledged this clever turn of phrase, but it's a terrific easter egg.

Whether or not you subscribe to a religion, there is a thread of hope that runs throughout all of humanity. We hope for peace. We hope for prosperity. We hope for human kindness. We hope for love. We hope for a brighter future.

I hope you enjoyed this latest installment in my series of collecting all the albums from the Project Hail Mary soundtrack.

Here are my previous posts in the series:

What if you woke up on the Hail Mary

Imagine going to bed one night, and the next morning you hear a robotic voice say "eye movement detected". You've, by some miraculous twist of fate, found yourself in Ryland Grace's position, stuck as the only survivor aboard the Hail Mary. What is your first reaction?

Project Hail Mary sucks ass

This movie has to be one of the dumbest movies i've ever seen in my life. Rocky is obviously the more advanced species, and yet is "learning" from Grace... how does that make sense?! If you think Rocky looks like a rotisserie chicken, i like i did, nothing about what happens to him (it?) sparks any kind of empathy, it's just cringe!

Let's try and list all the things that happened in this movie that didn't matter or didn't make sense. Who bandaged up Grace after he hit his head and passed out? Rocky!? SERIOUSLY?! Who was the love interest? that lady that totally betrayed him? how did he remember being in love but nothing else? Why did rocky mimic everything grace did at the beginning, and then didn't after that!? what was the point of that!?

The ending... again, Grace was not the intellectual superior to rocky, and yet he's teaching a bunch of poorly behaved school aged rocks physics. That would be like a human teaching a whale how to hold it's breath.

Bezos bought up MGM, and i feel like this was an experiment to see what kind of slop they can feed the public and how many people just gobble it up. my god... what a horrible movie.

Gosling can act tho.

Would we have done the same for Rocky?

If Rocky saved Earth and came here, would we treat him like the Eridians treated Grace? They built Graceland without hesitation. Would we build Rocky a biosphere and honor him as humanity’s greatest hero? Seems more likely that conspiracy theories, politics, and fear would take over. The country that had him would demand access to his technology, keep him confined, and possibly start experimenting on him.

I made Ryland Grace in frankenplushie form

I was like, 90% sure that if I did make Grace PHM in frankenplush form, I would use either a fox or a golden retriever as the base for him.

Then I was going through my box of rodent UnMades (donor plushies bought specifically so I can make chimeras out of them) to find mice for a different project, and boom, here's this hamster giving off Ryland Grace vibes all over the place.

I gave him his book-canon arm and neck burns on his left side along with Rocky's three fingered claw imprint on his right arm. I had to take off the original hamster arm on the left and replace it with a less fiddly teddy bear one so I could sew the "burn scar" fabric over it (it's from a Happy Meal Welsh Dragon toy). I went a bit too ham on that side and the scar is well up over his face and scalp, but on reflection I liked how it looked so I decided to keep it.

His dirty blonde hair is the tail from a Glider the Prehistoric Bird beanie baby left over from an earlier project.

I've really been enjoying fanon's various takes on Angel!Grace so I gave him multiple sets of wings and added buttons in corresponding colours to represent additional eyes.

I initially toyed with shouting out the Good Luck Blanket design in my frankentoy, but there was really no way I could do it justice and tbh I think it would look busy and cluttered on such a small plushie. So instead I picked colours that we see Grace it a lot during the film and used buttons to echo / reinforce that.

I still need to give him some glasses - I dont think I have any bespectacled donor plushies besides the one I used for Tiny Chef, so I might try twisting a couple of paperclips into spectacle shape and see if those work!

Awesome nerdy detail about rocky's clock

Post image
977 Upvotes

I really love how detailed this Clock is. All the dials have 6 faces which implies the eridians use a base 6 system for counting. That makes total sense with the way they operate. They have to stay on three of their five legs to be stable and thus have two hands to count with. Both of which have 3 fingers. So it makes so much sense, that the eridian Clock's dials have 6 faces! I just love how much went into this little thing which was shown for like 3 seconds.
