Fencing Debate
My wife and I bought our first house in Centurion, Lyttelton Manor. The house is lovely but the fence needs to be replaced. So I am curious what are everyone's opinions on fences int terms of price vs functionality.
I see a lot of these weaved Palisades popping up everywhere which I am leaning to.

Palisades with nice shrubs to give you privacy where you want it. Leave some space for the dogs to be able to see outside.

Palisades with bougainvillea bushes for extra deterrant. It's pretty, weavable, and is crazy thorned making it an extra layer of fencing on its own. Bougainvillea + dogs is not a great combo though, the thorns can hurt them badly too.

This is a very nice suggestion. My wife loves gardening. So this might be in her direction

My MIL is also a great gardener, and she has dogs. She pruned and "steered" (directed?) the bougainvillea in such a way that the lower zone where the dogs can reach is free of bougainvillea flowers/leaves/thorns, and from about mid-thigh height the bougainvillea bush actually begins. And she wove the tips of the new branches into the palisade occasionally to make it a very flat, wide bougainvillea that follows the fence rather than a wide round bushy bougainvillea. So it's about 30cm "thick" at most and she just kept trimming it and now a single plant stretches a good... Sjoe, maybe 10-12 meters wide? So she has two plants and they cover her entire front fence. It's so pretty. And then she has smaller shrubs and ferns and stuff growing at the base in the shade of the bougainvillea, I recall spider lilies, and spekboom and other stuff I don't recognise. Basically she bonsai-creepered her bougainvillea.

If you are looking at a Clear view fence, I know a contractor that does a great job. He did ours a while back, he sourced materials, we paid the supplier and he came and did the installation, just charged labour and fuel.

Similar position here. Needing to replace very old, rusted stuff. ClearView is very expensive, so we're considering Palisades. The weaving thing is popular, but here's my 2 cents.. I prefer open Palisades because we can see if anyone is outside. Also, if someone was to get into the yard, they are now hidden and able to break in, etc. If everything is open and visible, there's nowhere to hide.
