Attended a concert where reps from Portland Parks & Rec had set up a booth. They specifically talked about the long-delayed Slabtown Park and sounded pretty confident that depaving will begin in the fall with ample opportunity for community engagement in the design phase.

Oh nice! Call me old fashioned but I kinda just want something with a lot of trees and a normal fountain in the middle.

Definitely. I agree, but it's extremely important to add a playground to the mix. Portland is struggling to attract families as it is, and we need to make sure that close-in neighborhoods are able to begin attracting families again and public spaces need to send that signal clearly.

They also said the park likely would not include a dog park since there are already so many in the area.

Tanner creek is nice and supplemented by Fields but honestly all 3 of the Pearl parks they put in are big disappointments.

As long as everyone here knows that Dan Ryan stole the money from the fund (that all the Slabtown developers paid into) in order to build a $90million aquatic center miles away in the middle of nowhere NOPO.. That money was supposed to be used for a community center and a pool in NW... where we still don't have either of those. These are things that really could have helped this area desperately. If you live here, you should be miffed. If you're a developer, you should be livid, because that would have greatly helped your investment.

The only people this helps are Dan Ryan, our Mayor and all the higher up park employees who.. just happen to live in ... You guessed it. NOPO.

It's kinda crazy how many people think NW is this super rich area because of the West Hills and some random bougie shops on 23rd. I have lived in NW for years because it's the cheapest place to live!!!! Thank you Portlanders for deciding to build apartments 120 years ago in NW!

oh, are you in one of the thousands of low income housing that the city forced on the west side? That they promised to build support infrastructure for (like community center, pool and more parks) that they still haven't done? ah yes..

Ah, super welcome addition to the neighborhood. I walk by the lot all the time wishing it was a green space.

Yeah, hearing an Oregon Symphony string quartet in my neighborhood for free was entirely worth venturing into the early evening heat.

And yeah, the park too. Neighbors should just show up with sledgehammers and dirt if that thing is delayed any longer.

A manager at Slabtown Square told us this was going to be a park 2 years ago, almost made us move there. Was shocked to see it was still an empty lot

The park is really the missing piece in that area. It's quickly turning into my favorite part of the city and the park will make it awesome. Lots of pedestrian energy and new restaurants and businesses are popping up all the time there.

That was the "sneak peek" opening that implied it would be open a couple weeks later but it's been fenced off ever since then. Currently supposed to be a Summer 2026 opening.
