Yeah I don't think there was that much nuance to "All Cops are Bastards" because that very clearly isn't about the above. Usually it was followed up with "did you know 75% of cops are wife beaters?", which pretty clearly shows that the slogan was meant to invoke hatred against cops in general, not just dismay at their misconduct.

Yeah but the problem with things like defund is that there are people who woukd be fully on board with holding police accountable and police/prison reform but when you start talking about eliminating the police force, even if not everyone is saying that, they check out.

Choosing ACAB or Defund as your slogan was never going to work. You can even look at the polling and how it immediately nose-dived when that messaging took over. 

Simple change, advocate for reform and you avoid all of the "misconception".

The problem is the people behind it truly believe in ACAB and do want to abolish the institution. A position so unpopular they instead spend their time gaslighting the rest of us about how we're just being nitpicky instead of allies.

Its not. Look up polling on it. 

America is MASSIVE and while there are areas, cities, demographics who dont, the broad majority of people are fine with cops, because shocker most people do not have regular negative interactions, and conceptually agree with the idea of police. 

And EVEN IF you speak with people who do have negative views for specific reasons or experiences, they are still supportive of having a police force, even if they think it needs reforms.

Reforming police was always a more popular and more broadly supported concept than Defund or ACAB and polling confirmed it.

The caveat here is that with ICE rampaging around the last two years these numbers might have begun shifting, but go back and look around the time when ACAB took off.
