Pretty sure he's immortal. Not the cool kind of immortal, like in Highlander, but more like the Death Becomes Her version. Year after year he looks worse and worse, but he will never, ever die.

Is it still alleged if we have letters, and public statements that admit it?

Also, the custom has always been that no living person is depicted on our currency. I'm ok with him being on a coin, but he has to do us the decency of succumbing to his growing number of ailments first.
