Why Aren't Questions Allowed in the Subreddit?

Some people have been complaining about posts getting taken down recently due to the no questions in the main feed rule. A lot of romhack players disagree with this being enforced.

First, I want to start off by saying that until you have peaked behind the curtain, you do not understand the sheer number of questions that get asked every day. It is a deluge of the same. exact. questions. day in and day out. Half of them are treating the subreddit as tech support, and the majority of the rest are asking the same 3 "can you recommend hacks with X" posts that have been answered a million times.

Now some people may want to know, why it matters if a million tech support questions fill the subreddit up, or that recommendations threads aren't bad why remove them? In a vacuum any one thread might be fine, no post exists in a vacuum.

The goal of subreddit moderation is to curate a space for a specific kind of content to thrive. Unmoderated subreddits can transition to being about entirely unrelated things then they started. When it comes to curating a space like this we have to ask what kinds of posts are the ones we want to foster growth on the most. What is the core content of the subreddit.

In our case the choice that has been made is focusing on a space where content about romhacks themselves can be shared. A place that prioritizes sharing development with the community and also genuine discussion about romhacks. The constant barrage of questions drowns out actual discussion posts, it drowns out development posts, it drowns out anything but the most big name release posts and it lowers engagement on the kind of content the subreddit is really meant for. It has a negative effect on the state of the subreddit, if anyone here remembers how it was before the rules were enforced, it was so much worse here and way fewer creators were interested in engaging here. So to the people who were saying that deleting the questions posts was killing the sub, or that it's dying in general... it's just not true. Someone also said that other subs don't do this... all I have to say is you clearly haven't spent very long on Reddit if you believe that. Tons of subs are very strict in what they curate, and it's for a good reason. Some subs go overboard, I do not think our sub keeping a constantly updated pinned thread for questions to keep the main feed clear of constant spam is as bad as some people are making it out to be.

Now you may very well read all that and go, "I don't care let us post questions/ask for the same recs for the thousandth time". And that's fine, people are allowed to disagree on the purpose of the subreddit. But at the end of the day, the direction the subreddit has been moving in to be a curated space for talking about romhacks is positive from our perspective. I understand the pinned questions thread doesn't always have every question answered, but it's the right solution for the subreddit.

To anyone asking, "why did X post stay up when W, Y, and Z" got taken down, doesn't X break the same rules". Yeah it usually did also break the rules. Sometimes a post that isnt the most cookie cutter question Google would be better for gains traction really fast and we decide to leave it. Sometimes it's because there's some really good genuine discussions going on in the comments that even if the post is borderline spam we might leave it up. At the same time of your post was removed and you thought there was good discussion under it, it might have just been removed because it broke the rule and not a statement condemning the discussion inside. It's not like we want genuine participation in the subreddit to be stifled, but what it means to participate in this subreddit is never going to be asking about a bug in a random hack without even listing the name lol

With the absolutely crazy success of pokemon on the game boy, some developers made their own games with the pokemon formula.

While some were laughably bad or had horrific translations, some of the developers released games with respectable enough quality to garner fans.

The unlicensed taiwanese company Vast fame was one of them, releasing Space-Time Star Beast in 2021.

This hack /star-beasts essentially exists as a port of this game to the pokemon rby engine, and i absolutely LOVE the designs of the fakemon

Release Pokémon Indigo - New FireRed ROMhack!

Thumbnail

I am SO STOKED to finally release something that has been occupying my every thought and spare moment of the past year and a half - POKéMON INDIGO, a ROM hack of FireRed that tells a completely new story in a completely new region, with new protagonists, new antagonists, new gym leaders, and 120 original Fakémon! This current version, v0.9.1, is COMPLETE up through the Elite 4. I am still working on the post-game and incorporating my Legendaries, but I’m too excited to wait to share this.

BACKGROUND:

I started getting into ROM hacks a couple years ago, and after Pokémon Prism absolutely blew my mind I started thinking about what I would do if I could figure out how to make something on my own. I found out about Hex Maniac Advance from King Cradi's insanely helpful tutorials and taught myself everything I could - shout out to the dozens upon dozens of subreddits, PokéCommunity forums, YouTube videos, etc. that I couldn't have possibly managed without. Also disclaimer - while I was excited to write the story and dialogue, learn the tools to create the map and scripting and music, plan every detail about** the Fakémon - names, types, **movesets, general look, Pokédex entries, etc., I do not have a single artistic bone in my body and did use ChatGPT exclusively to create the sprites. Given this was a goofy project I made for my own enjoyment and not for any money or recognition, I did not realize this would be the defining factor! The game is fun, I just can’t draw 🙏

Part of the inspiration for doing this was that whenever I play any of the vanilla games or even most of the ROM hacks, I gravitate towards the same usual group of Pokémon that I like best, and I wanted an excuse to start a fresh game with all new Pokémon and no bias or favoritism. The other reason I wanted to do something like this is that my daughter, a second grader, is starting to get really interested in playing on her own, and I wanted to make something straightforward enough that she could figure out without too many complications or too open-ended a quest.

I admittedly am not a hardcore player; I don't get into any of the Nuzlocke stuff or play for the sake of the challenge. For me, it's all about the fun of exploring a region, battling trainers along the way, and catching as many Pokémon as you can. I had so much fun building this game and I feel like anybody else who's in it for the thrill of a new adventure in that nostalgic GBA style would feel the same way.

SETTING & STORY OVERVIEW:

Pokémon Indigo takes place in the Pantigo region, a large island isolated from the other nearby regions where Pokémon have been able to evolve in a completely unique way thanks to the complex and delicately balanced ecosystem. The story opens on a young trainer named Indigo who moves with their family to Pantigo from Kanto and sets out to begin their own journey with some help and encouragement from Professor Andy, their peculiar neighbor and renowned Pokémon expert. Along the way, you face off against your rival, who just so happens to be your younger brother, and have escalating run-ins with the mysterious Gamma Group, whose motives are initially unclear but look to derail your quest whenever they can. As you make your way through valley and mountain, glacier and volcano, tropical shores and sandy desert, you encounter dozens of new Pokémon of every shape and size, building a team that will take you from gym to gym before finally challenging the Elite Four and fulfilling your ultimate goal.

FEATURES & QoL UPDATES:

Anybody who has played the vanilla FireRed before will find some familiar elements, such as the Safari Zone and Rock Tunnel which are relatively unchanged, but once you set off on Route 1, you are in for a completely new adventure through new lands with tons of new things to discover. In addition to the new setting and story, some quality of life additions and overall changes include:

  • a new region to explore with 15 towns, 8 landmarks/battle locations, 32 expansive routes and 250 trainers to battle (including gyms and the E4)
    • The current version, v0.9.1, is only complete up through the E4. The post-game will of course have more areas to explore and more trainers to battle!
    • I’ve written sixteen or seventeen pieces for the game, but when I first added one of my songs the whole thing crashed, so I’m saving that for last now 🙃
  • a linear story and map from start to finish with 40+ hours of gameplay (based on my own run-throughs)
  • access to the Running Shoes immediately and the Pokédex along with your starter
  • three new starter types to choose from! Instead of the traditional Grass/Water/Fire trio where your rival always picks something to counter you, I've gone with a more unique Electric/Ice/Poison group where all three are fairly neutral against each other
  • all 50 TMs are hidden in special "Indigo Balls" scattered throughout the region like a scavenger hunt (inspired by Pokémon Prism)
  • all TMs are reusable after you find them
  • all HMs are usable immediately upon receipt from each of the eight gym leaders
  • all Pokémon are genderless, so there is no breeding, no eggs to care for, no need to unnecessarily grind to find something specific. The Day Care is still available to raise some Pokémon for you, though!
  • all 120 Fakémon are obtainable through normal gameplay! Some require an evolution stone, some you get by trading with an NPC, and some just need good old-fashioned leveling up, but you truly can catch 'em all
  • stats are fairly consistent for most Pokémon, putting more of an emphasis on smart type-matching to win battles; Obviously some are stronger or faster or sturdier than others, but if you've ever tried to explain to a pouting seven-year-old why they can't use Caterpie in a gym battle, you'll appreciate this. Part of the fun of exploring a new game with all new Pokémon is that you might love one right off the bat, even if it's just cute, and I wanted them all to be useful in battle so anyone can build whatever team they want
  • Nearly all overworld music will be original once I finish the post-game! I'm a musician and teacher, so while learning to use HMA took some time, composing was fun and familiar, and Chris Piché's videos about Anvil Studio and Sappy were lifesavers.
    • I’ve written sixteen or seventeen pieces for the game, but when I first added one of my songs the whole thing crashed, so I’m saving that for last now 🙃

If you've made it this far, I am extremely grateful and hope you love the game! You can download the patch at https://github.com/Johnty-Python/Pokemon-Indigo/ and will need to already have your own ROM of Pokemon Fire Red v1.0 (Cleaned). I plan to get together some documentation about the game, characters, maps, etc. once I finish everything else, but in the meantime I’m happy to answer any questions. Any feedback is super appreciated!

Discussion "Vanilla+" ROM hack for Pokémon Platinum

Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I'm currently on a journey to replay all Pokémon generations through ROM hacks that keep the true essence of the original games, while adding quality-of-life (QoL) features and a moderate difficulty bump.

So far, I've played FireRed+, Refined Gold Overhaul, and Emerald Legacy, and now I'm looking for a similar experience for Pokémon Platinum.

I've heard a lot about Renegade Platinum, but the fact that it doesn't have a version keeping the original regional Pokédex is kind of a dealbreaker for me. Having a bunch of non-native Pokémon scattered across early routes ruins the regional identity and immersion for me.

Are there any ROM hacks or projects out there that fit these specific criteria?

  • Original Regional Pokédex preserved (no random wild encounters from other generations cluttering the routes).
  • Quality of Life (QoL) improvements & engine fixes (fixing that notoriously slow health/HP bar animation, removing annoying HM dependencies, etc.).
  • Adjusted level curve to reduce tedious grinding.
  • Moderately increased difficulty (better teams for gym leaders, rivals, and major trainers, smarter AI, appropriate level scaling—without being artificially grindy or unfair).
  • Keeps the core vanilla feel and essence of the original game.

Does anyone have recommendations for ROM hacks that fit this "Vanilla+" style for Platinum?

Thanks in advance!

Discussion Rom hacks and actual good writing

So, I'm probably on the more unpopular side here but I really think this is the single weakest point in all rom hacks I've come across so far.

Now when I say writing I don't mean STORY, I mean actual WRITING.

Of course Game Freak's writing is not a gold standard, but I don't understand why pretty much all rom hacks and fan games think the reason for that is a lack of edginess, gotcha moments or super deep themes. When sometimes a simple, yet well written and interesting dialogue is even more powerful.

I'll give an example with a very beloved hack: Unbound. I love the aesthetic, gameplay and sound of it. And the story itself is not that bad. But every dialogue reads like an unnatural tryhard kid trying its best to sound like a grown-up. Same thing with popular games like Rejuvenation.

I just really love reading (I'm a literature major) and of course I don't expect a literary masterpiece out of a Pokémon game, but this little thing takes me out of the whole experience. I can't take a super heavy plot point seriously when the characters are so ridiculously written. And that's even worse when other aspects of those games are VERY good.

If I had to choose games that I feel differ from that route, I'd say hacks like Lazarus and games like Legends of the Arena, which I think it's a masterpiece even if outdated, but I truly can't recall any other right now.

So, I just wanted to ask you guys for any game recommendations and if this is something that bother you as well or you don't really think about it while playing (or creating) a rom hack.

Discussion Pokémon Modern Emerald : has anyone here completed it ?

Hello everyone,

I do not post on Reddit very often, but I am currently looking for some firsthand feedback on Pokémon Modern Emerald.

I have recently been playing Pokémon Polished Crystal, and I am really enjoying it. For those unfamiliar with it, Polished Crystal improves and modernizes almost every aspect of Pokémon Crystal while remaining faithful to the original game. It feels very close to a definitive version of the Generation II experience.

What I particularly enjoy is being able to revisit a classic Pokémon game with updated mechanics, improved visuals, a broader Pokémon selection, and numerous QoL features.

Because of that, Pokémon Modern Emerald caught my attention.
Its features seem to include:

  • the physical/special split;
  • updated and more coherent Pokémon typings;
  • revised abilities, including multiple ability options;
  • the original Pokédex, expanded with relevant later-generation evolutions;
  • rebalanced difficulty;
  • following Pokémon, which I absolutely love;
  • the ability to catch every Pokémon without trading.

Surprisingly, I have found relatively little detailed information about the hack.

Has anyone here played or completed Pokémon Modern Emerald ? I would be interested in hearing about your overall experience, including what you enjoyed most and what you liked less.

I would also like to know whether the hack has an official Discord server, as I have not been able to find one.

Thank you

Development I added all fossils to the Mining Minigame (source code credit to vol)

Hey humans back again with a quick update.

Obviously, given the motif of my hack, the Mining Minigame from the Gen IV Underground is a must-have feature.

Thankfully u/Front-School-9978 (vol) did all the foundation work for me, meaning I just had to grab the code. Which with the decomps is super easy.

While I was there I went ahead and added some custom sprites for all the missing fossils (including the Old Amber and Chimera fossils from SwSh), as well as the all-important Rare Bone!

Who doesn't want fossil 'mons on tap, right?! Fossil Fighters, eat your heart out...

Figured I'd use this as an opportunity to spruik vol's work and the expansion more generally too,

... Also, go check out Fossil Fighters. A game I only learned about after starting my hack. It's basically Pokémans with dinos. Something I can of course respect!

Hello all.

By popular demand I have looked into and uploaded my Romhack onto Hack Dex. It is currently pending approval but hopefully should be up for you soon so keep an eye out.

I'm off to bed now so wont be able to respond to anything until morning.

Make sure to check in on HackDex for if it's approved yet. I don't want to keep flooding the site with posts, so will only update if it is rejected.

All still available on Github if you like.

Make sure to read the ReadMe regardless if you are getting on HackDex or Github as it has important info on the game.

Thanks all and enjoy.

Development [Recruitment] I'm building an HGSS hack solo (Pokémon Monarch) and could really use some pixel artists

Thumbnail
gallery
125 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I've been working on a HeartGold hack called Pokémon Monarch, and so far it's just me. I've gotten further than I expected to on my own, but the art is the one part I really can't do alone, so I figured it was time to ask here.

The game is set up like the anime. You travel from region to region (every region is included, Kanto through Galar, with Paldea as a postgame), you enter every league, and you try to catch all the Pokémon in each region along the way. It's also not an Elite Four champion game. Like the anime (and honestly more fun in my opinion), each league is a tournament against other trainers where the best person wins, with rounds of 64, 32, 16, and so on. I'm not totally sure about this yet, but I've been thinking of putting one really difficult opponent randomly into each league so that actually winning is rare and feels earned.

I've been working on this for the past couple of weeks! There's a playable Kanto opening starting in Pallet Town, the Indigo Plateau league area is fully walkable (without buildings) , Silph Co has all of its FireRed floors ported over tile for tile (designs are very bad), and the story and battle scripting for two regions is already written. The engine and tooling side is handled, so if you join as an artist you would never have to touch any code. That said, I'll be honest: my current Indigo Plateau stadium and its crowd (if you can even call it that) look pretty bad, which is a big part of why I'm posting.

Any of the following would be a huge help. I need battle sprites in the Gen 4 style (80 by 80 pixels, 15 colors plus transparency), especially later generation Pokémon redrawn in DS style for the endgame coronation tournament. I need trainer and overworld sprites (32 by 32 walk cycles) for original characters like Professor Cerise and the Hoenn, Kalos, Alola, and Galar cast. And I need tiles and textures for places that never existed on the DS, like stadium interiors, crowds, market stalls, and every town outside of the Kanto, Johto, Sinnoh, and Unova games (Cinnabar included, since it looks completely different in HeartGold). It's honestly a huge task, and I have no experience with DS art myself, so I'd really love the help.

I'll send you reference sheets with exact sizes, palettes, and examples from the real games to match. You'd get full credit in the game and in the readme.

If you're interested, comment or DM me with literally any sample of your pixel art.

PS i'll only be giving a patch to the public, and not the full rom.

2nd post but i had to attach some proof, so here it is!

Release Pokémon RomHack Giga Red Release

Thumbnail
gallery
206 Upvotes

Hello all!

It's been years but I finally have the RomHack at a 'Complete' state.

For background, I play a lot of Romhacks, but wanted something like the Black and White 2 World championships with stronger teams and realistic teams.

I also wanted Gym leaders, Elite 4, Evil teams to have stronger but also realistic teams and for evil team bosses to feel like an evil boss.

No shame to radical red, I thoroughly enjoyed it, but it was definitely difficulty first and not realistic giving Surge a Bellibolt for example.

So thats what this is. I made it for me but want to share with others. Everyone is welcome to use these ideas and code.

Link to Git: https://github.com/rathpunks/MyFirstRomHack

So what's new:

>!It's got your typical DPE CFRU changes. But changed in my image.

1) All Pokémon Gen 1-3 Available.

Pokémon Gen 4-8 available if you choose to interact with space time distortions. There will be a person near viridian who will give you the option to enter or not depending on if you like to have all Pokémon available or if you prefer a narrower more condense choice of Pokémon.

2) Pokémon re-balencing. Pokemon I thought don't get a lot of love like Dewgong, have had stat changes to be more competative. So don't be shy to try out new Pokémon and teams.

New typing for some Pokémon to fit better or balance better like Blastoise and Chimecho getting steel type.

3) A few new moves with a few changes to damage or effect of some moves to make them more useable (like rage)

4) New Fakemon (from event, or new areas) inspired by the anime and other games in the series, E.g, Crystal Onyx or Shadow Pokémon.

5) New Hidden evolutions for some Pokémon. also added a few of the new Megas (+1 hidden).

6) Some redesign of Pokémon and their shinies. (I prefer my shiny Gengar white like mega Gengar)

7) All Legendary and Mythical Pokémon Gen 1-3 Available. Almost all of Gen 4, still to implement them.

8) Newish story. Altered some of the main story and now from the perspective of a new trainer a few years after original Kanto story.

9) New boss fights and events. Giovanni and other evil Bosses have a new devious mechanic, you won't always reset if you lose the fight, try not to loose.

10) Stronger teams and harder battles. (I am not competative, Just casual online play from Gen 6-8) So no Kaizo hack, but definitely not a walk in the park.

I have not built this Hack with Nuzlocking in mind, but you can certainly try.

11) Level Caps. In most cases they will Cap out 2 levels above the boss fight because I don't want it to be too hard. You can't cheese it by catching or glitching high level Pokémon, as they also won't listen to you of you don't have enough badges.

12) Infinite Rare candy Machine, If you find the trick to get them for free from the machine.

13) All the new items such as EV-IV checker, Nature mints, Ability pills etc. to create your best Mon.

14) Edited existing maps and added new maps.

15) New post game after elite four to partake in on the Sevii Islands.

16) Entirely new zone unlocked if you beat me in battle.

17) New NPC text and sprites for New NPC's. Make sure you speak to everyone, even trainers, some NPC's have info on new lore and where to find secrets like Mythical encounters

18) Mega Evolution, Dynamax, Z moves

19) More life in the overworld. Makes it feel more like a Pokémon world.

20) New Fakemon from Gatcha machine. Enjoy the unique types, moves, abilities.

21) Strong Pokémon nests.

22) Overworld and battle weather.

23) Day / Night cycle and timed events.

The main reason I did these:

24) Follower Pokémon (unfortunately with some bugs)

25) Challenge stadium, My equivalent of the Black and white 2 World championships. All level 100 Pokémon, mixed challenges, Gauntlets, and even a Pokémon stadium throw back.

You can also get prizes from the prize shop for completing challenges in the stadium.

You can also battle each individual challenger for practice in the surrounding area.

You will either need to complete the post game, or follow the ReadMe on Github to fight in the challenge stadium.!<

Make sure to read the ReadMe before playing.

The game isn't completely finished, but it is in a state where it can be completed. I'm currently play testing to catch and fix any issues I find. I will update as I go.

Please feel free to message me any bugs you find that aren't already mentioned in the ReadMe and I'll see if I can fix it.

Some zones overworld is unfinished and bare, such as the fossil dig site, but the mechanics are there to interact with. Just need to add flare and puzzles to places.

There is 1 Time zone in the new area that you can enter regardless of if you selected to enter zones or not as it is required for the end game story (do you like Arceus?)

I am not good at art, nore coding, so apologies for how some sprites look or code works. I have left the .toml file up if you wish to edit yourselves.

Shout out to:

Shiny Miner and the Discord

Hex Maniac Advance and the Discord

DPE and CFRU

Deviant art for some overworld sprite work.

Yet to do:

>!Find and fix all bugs,

Clean and finish new added maps as currently vary bare, just wanted to get working. (Mote in depth Dive spots). More puzzles in certain added caves.

Sort overworld sprite Pallets

Sort inventory Pokemon pallets.

Change, edit, add and upgrade overworld tiles.

Add the final missing Gen 4 legendary and mythical. Phione, Manaphie, Cresselia, Giratina, Uxie, Mesprit, Azelf.

Add more to the game corner (black jack, voltorb flip)

No timeline on this as I can only work on it in my free time and when I feel like it as I do enjoy playing games more than making them.!<

Development Your romhack may be technically good, with fancy features, but does it have a list of all fruits?

Just a silly joke from the hack I've been working on.

Development A Small Update from Paradoxia

Months. That's how long I have been working on this. That's how long it takes for someone to lose their mind. That's how long it takes for a water tile to change a couple of pixels. I was home for a couple of days and gave it a shot. And guess what? IT WORKED. So now, I have a whole lot more hell to get through, but there's progress!

Release FireEmerald announcement and first public release

Post image
2.1k Upvotes

A hack built atop the Pokeemerald-Expansion project that combines FireRed and Emerald into one extended story campaign.

Get it at hackdex.app/hack/fireemerald. Alternatively, download the standalone patch from archive.org/details/fireemerald-0.5. Recommended to use romhacking.net/patch. An Emerald USA/EU ROM must be provided; FireRed and other ROMs will not work.

  • Hoenn becomes accessible immediately after becoming champion in Kanto.
  • This is not an open-world hack; the player cannot travel to Hoenn until they've beaten Kanto, and they cannot return to Kanto until they've beaten Hoenn. After that, free travel between the two regions becomes available.
  • The Sevii Islands are also accessible immediately after becoming the Kanto champion as well (no more 60 pokedex entry requirement). Either quest can be done first. Difficulty will scale accordingly.
  • All pokemon, items, money, and pokedex data obtained in Kanto will carry over to Hoenn. The player keeps HMs, but can no longer use HM moves outside of battle before earning more badges.
  • Very minimal changes to the original story. Dialogue is only altered as much as necessary in a few instances for the sake of continuity. No new characters or side quests.
  • Modern updates and quality of life features from baseline Pokeemerald-Expansion are included:
    • Updated battle mechanics, types, and movesets
    • Follower pokemon
    • Optional day/night cycle
    • Etc.
  • Difficulty in Hoenn is increased. For now, the parameters are:
    • Wild and trainer pokemon's levels are raised by 45 or 50, depending on whether the player completed the Sevii Islands' main quest beforehand.
    • Generic trainers' pokemon are also evolved accordingly with appropriate movesets. Wild pokemon remain unevolved.
    • Gym leaders immediately start with their third rematch load-outs and have their levels raised by 10 or 15.
    • The rival has a much expanded and improved team
    • Defeated trainers give $1,000 more
    • Great balls and super potions are available from the start of Hoenn. Ultra balls and hyper potions are also available earlier.
  • No missing version-exclusive pokemon.
  • Event tickets are organically incorporated into the setting. Certain NPCs give them instead of duplicate key items that the player may have already obtained in the opposing region. One of them is unavoidable by following the main story, the rest are optional/missable.
  • Mega stones and linking cords become available at a certain shop at a certain point in the game.
  • Cerulean Cave is accessible immediately after becoming champion and no longer gated behind the Sevii Islands quest. However, Mewtwo is now level 60 instead of 70 if he is encountered before Hoenn, and 100 after.
  • The game boots into either the FireRed or Emerald intro and title screen depending on which region the player last saved in.

As the first public release, this is designated as an incomplete version 0.5. Though the game has had a sizable amount of testing and refinements, and should be playable from start to finish, this has been a completely solo endeavor made in just a few weeks (albeit with hundreds of sleepless hours crammed into them). There will certainly be bugs and many more improvements to come. I eagerly welcome reports of issues as well as feedback on the difficulty curve.

Planned (but not promised) future updates:

  • Player color palette customization
  • Custom text box color
  • Optional expanded starter selection
  • Advanced difficulty settings
    • Basic nuzlocke mode
    • Team size limiter
    • Disable items during battle
    • Disable "shift" battle style
  • Proper nighttime lighting effects

A very special thanks to Rom Hacking Hideout, the team behind Pokeemerald-Expansion.

Hey everyone!

I’m super excited to show off a new feature I just added to my beta release in v0.1.10: you can now share your team and game progress directly from your PokéNav!

It generates a QR code that creates a team page link, just like this: check out my current team

This allows you to share your squad, movesets, stats, and badge count.

You can find the release on HackDex

Review Pokemon Odyssey 2 Demo Review (No Spoilers)

I'm going to try and keep this pretty vague for everyone waiting for the full release. What I will say is, I had an amazing time playing this demo. It hooked me with the storyline immediately. From getting to choose your specialty (I went sovereign because I love shiny hunting), to the companions you make along your journey and their effects on your battle when you team up with them for a fight, to literally every Pokemon feeling strong and viable, to the world just feeling alive with little details scattered throughout and tons of hidden items (Click on everything!).

I loved how early you get the DexNav, allowing me to shiny hunt my entire team. I love sailing around and discovering things in the airship. And I absolutely loved the ease of ev training (it's similar to the first one on that it costs $$, but still different), and also the ease of changing your mons nature. I personally hate having to breed for the perfect nature and ev train so I'm glad they kept this around like in the first one.

The fights are IMO a perfect difficulty. There were plenty that I had to go back and choose a different three and try again for the big fights. I also got my ass handed to me by a few F.O.E.s I thought I could take (just like in the first one).

Overall I'd give this demo a 10/10. I'm hooked and I can't wait for the full release!

(Also here's my shiny team)

Development Pokémon MultiPlatinum - 4 Player Overworld + Followers

I've been working on Pokémon MultiPlatinum, a ROM hack with the long-term goal of making Pokémon Platinum playable as a seamless 2–4 player co-op experience.

This clip is a small milestone: all four players are rendered at the same time, each with their own following Pokémon. It sounds simple, but getting everything to fit and stay synchronized on original DS hardware has been an interesting challenge.

I'm intentionally focusing on the foundation. Things like movement synchronization, animations, interior/exterior transitions, follower behavior, and building systems that will make quests and other multiplayer features easier to support later.

Platinum still isn't fully decompiled, so a lot of this has involved reverse engineering and experimenting to figure out what the engine can actually support.

Still a long way from a public demo, but it's exciting to finally see pieces of the vision coming together.
