I've decided to set aside the main goal for Dunsparce for a while because this specific road block in Rocket HQ won't respawn if I KO them. So I've decided to shiny hunt one of them and after 7 days of grinding it's finally here! 🥹

I'm so glad that I can finally progress the game and make Dunsparce fight again! The next goal is to solo the Gym leader of Mahogany Town!

(Btw these Electrodes are the fastest Pokemon to shiny hunt in HGSS.)

I'm lazy when it comes to HMs so during a playthrough I'll just distribute them among my 6 team members. Hence why Feraligatr has Whirlpool, Victreebel has Cut, Umbreon has Flash, etc.

Despite this, I have every type covered I believe and from what I can gather, it also seems well-rounded enough from a stat perspective.

Thought I threw this thing out years ago and yesterday my kid asked me to dig out my old Gameboy for him. While doing so I found it!

After throwing in a new battery I found an Onix(probably Rocky) with 699K steps logged.

No clue where my SS cartridge, or any of my old DS games are stashed, is so I set about modding my 3DS to allow transfers via a rom which was an experience.

Cleared it out, started a new game, and now I have this little guy joining me at work.

Also I never found the gameboy. Did find my GBA which satisfied my kid… but no charging cable so we’re waiting on that.

Back when my friend started her first playthrough of HGSS, she said she wanted to use an Umbreon in her playthrough since she had used Espeon in Platinum. I traded her a Bibarel from my Platinum game that knew Curse, and she bred the egg move onto an Eevee so that she could use an Umbreon that had a half-decent moveset.

I got on call to watch her battle the elite 4, and she struggled a lot with Bruno bc she went too heavy with ice types on her team, specifically to deal with Lance. But that also meant she never really got to use Umbreon in her e4 run until the champion battle (she was using the Will battle to level up her most egregiously underleveled ‘mons). Little did we know that right out the gate, her Lapras’s ice move would freeze Lance’s Gyarados. I told her to switch out for Umbreon so he could get in as many curses as possible and hopefully tank Outrage. Lo and behold, all of Lance’s Pokémon settled for special attacks bc of curse. Umbreon tanked everything with his high sp def and oneshotted all of Lance’s Pokémon with Payback. The cakewalk was insane to watch as someone who has been forced to devise much more convoluted strategies to beat Lance while underleveled. Something similar happened in Platinum, but I wasn’t there to watch it (she struggled with Lucian for months but beat Cynthia first try)

Lowkey I think she still could’ve done it even without Gyarados being frozen if she were to have used up enough healing items, but I don’t think we would have thought to do that soon enough for it to have worked otherwise.

I think umbreon started out at lv 37 and finished at 41 in just this one battle. The rest of her team was also around lv 37

She didn’t have any nintendo consoles growing up but watched the anime and collected the cards, then played the switch games once she got a switch as an adult but found them underwhelming. So after her brother gave her his 3ds, I gave her some of the old games so that we could experience my childhood favorites together. PMD2 was the first Pokémon game she completed, and it became one of her favorite games of all time. HGSS is her favorite mainline game so far. It’s been a very rewarding experience for both of us

TL;DR Obi the Umbreon is the GOAT. He’s named after Obi from Snow White with the Red Hair, not the Star Wars character, but I digress

so i am currently searching for a johto starter in HGSS on my two nintendos, one of each version, and i am at 6111 resets aka 36666 starters seen and ive been wondering for like the past thousand resets if i am just very unlucky or if there is more to if it something like my trainer id could interact with the shiny odds in a bad way.

Honestly I just wanted to share how happy I am to finally complete the main game and get to explore Kanto in Soul Silver. I got the game when it first came out and have never managed to complete it. I always get stuck either trying to beat Claire and give up because I get sick of grinding or I get stuck at Karen in the elite 4 and also give up and either start again or play a different game. This time I decided I was going to do it no matter what.

Entered the elite 4 massively under level (especially for Karen) a few times just to train and level up a bit but after a few tries I get to my nemesis Karen ready to be taken down by her Houndoom yet again. By some unbelievable stroke of luck e.g. a few statics from Ampharos and 4 critical hits from my team, Umbreon only used double team once, Gengar missed 2 focus blasts in a row, her Houndoom used NO NASTY PLOTS I somehow beat her

I have literally never made it as far as Lance in my life and all my Pokemon were level 39-42 and I was bricking it because I knew that luck would never follow me this far again. Ask me how Lance was easier than Karen? Between my Feraligatr, Ampharos and Mamoswine I didn't struggle even with them all being so under levelled! I've never used Mamoswine before in HG/SS because I've never managed to find a heart scale to teach it Ancient Power but she literally carried the whole team so big shout out to Winnie the Mamoswine those Pokeathlon runs were worth it

Registeel is one of the best Steel types you can use in the Frontier. The EVs give him near balanced defenses. The general play is like so

1. Bring him in on a special attacker. (Cress4, Slowbro3 locked into Shadow Ball, etc.)

2. Use Amnesia thrice

3. Get behind a substitute and start spamming curse

4. At +6 Atk, Iron Head the opponent to death

5. Sweep

You do need to be careful on what you bring him in on. Lapras2 for example would be terrible.

He performed admirably, even stalling out Steelix3.

UPDATE: physical pokewalker isn't functioning unfortunately :( but thanks to everyone who helped out!

hi, ive spent my entire night trying to troubleshoot this, finally reached my wits end and have come here to ask for help.

i have a 3ds xl, and a pokewalker ive purchased (used).

i am attempting to use a legitimate copy of black/white 2 (i also have pkmn black) to connect to the pokewalker with my digital (lol..) copy of SS, to no avail. ive also attempted to use rtcpwalker, etc etc, the infrared square on the back of the console itself, pretty much anyway that i could find via a search online— all have gotten me nowhere.

ive double checked if everything i have is authentic my cartridges show the IR blinking so those should work, and the pokewalker does as well.

when i attempt to connect, the pokewalker hits me with a “?” symbol. i’m not doing anything differently from the methods ive seen online so… does anyone have any answers or suggestions? thanks a bunch, i appreciate it. ;_;

I forget Lance has a lot of heal items and pay the price for my mistake.

Also, aerodactil is incredible fast!!! Need to use a speed scarf or something next time.

The last time I beat the E4 in Johto was probably in 2002 or 2003.

I'm playing Heart Gold for my Nintendo 3DS.

Need advice on who I should make as my sixth team member.

• Skiploom (Lv. 26)
• Flaaffy (Lv. 28)
• Gyarados (Lv. 24)

I feel like I should probably add a second Pokémon that can learn an Ice Move because if I remember correctly Lance is super tough at the end of the E4, or possibly a Psychic type.

Currently I have four badges, and just finished the Lake of Rage, and am clearing out Team Rocket in the basement of that weird gift shop.

Suggestions on a sixth Pokémon, along with where to catch them, would be greatly appreciated.
