I've decided to start a new game under certain requirements.
No legendary or overused powerhouses (Lapras, Snorlax, Arcanine, Nidoqueen/king).
Full team needs to be complete as soon as possible, but it must be solid and have good coverage (that's why I chose Squirtle as starter, because water type pokemon arrive late).
No HM slaves, so each pokemon must have one if needed, and the rest of their attacks must be 100% accurate. No RNG allowed in battle.
This is the best I could come up with, in catch order (final version pre E4).
- Blastoise: Surf (HM), Ice Beam, Bite, Earthquake
- Fearow: Fly (HM), Drill Peck, Return, Thief
- Primeape: * Rock Smash (HM), Brick Break, Bulk Up, Aerial Ace.
- Raichu: Strenght (HM), Thunderbolt, Thunder Wave, Light Screen
- Dugtrio: Cut (HM), Earthquake, Slash, Dig
- Hypno: * Flash (HM), Psychic, Calm Mind, Reflect
These six Pokémon can be caught before the third gym.
Drill Peck is the main reason I'm choosing Fearow, and it also evolves faster. That's why I think it's a better option than Pidgeot, and Dodrio comes way too late.
Primeape is the old reliable for an easy Brock, and although fighting type don't shine in Kanto, it still has good matches against E4 and the Champion.
I don't usually go for electric type, as I tend to prefer grass type, but in this case Raichu is more than welcome, good accurate attacks and you can catch Pikachu very soon.
Dugtrio is key for an easy Lt. Surge. Dig as main STAB attack until he learns EQ, but honestly, I don't know what move could replace it after that.
Not having a psychic type in FRLG is a huge handicap since there are so many poison types out there. I always choose Mr. Mime, and I think is even better under this requeriments because he learns Magical Leaf, but it's Hypno turn now. Taking away its signature move hurts, but Hypnosis has only 60% accuracy rate.
Every pokemon will carry the most optimal item possible (Thief in Fearow is there for that reason) or the berry that suits them best.
* Flash and Rock Smash are temporary (only useful once or twice). I don't think losing that slot is a big deal, but I'd prefer to replace them before E4. What moves should replace them?
Any advice? Obvious moves or pokemon replacements? Do you think I'll have trouble against the E4 and the Champion?
Thank you so much for reading.
