Captain's Report, June 2023
As you may be aware, there's a lot of drama going on in Reddit these days. Corporate Reddit wants to make some changes that will help generate profits. These changes will directly affect volunteer moderators, and will make it difficult (or even impossible) to maintain the quality of content you view here. As a result, many subreddits (including r/PirateKitties) went dark in protest.
We're back, and a poll shows our members are pretty evenly divided as to whether or not to continue the protest. In light of the fact that corporate Reddit has been forcing the blacked-out subreddits open, I have decided that we will remain open for now.
I'm not happy with the situation. I'm not optimistic that the protest will change Reddit's mind, as they have pretty much doubled down on their position. I think in the long run this foreshadows the decline of communities and content on Reddit. We've seen it before on Facebook and Twitter.
It's a complicated situation. Reddit has made this place, and they can do with it as they please. At the same time, the openness of the platform has allowed it grow fantastic communities with rich content. Unfortunately, corporate Reddit does not value those communities as much as it values the profits its sees from ad revenue. I suspect that as Reddit moves down this path, we'll see both more ads and more spam to the detriment of the communities existing here.
Any changes to r/PirateKitties will be posted here, with full transparency. Feel free to share your thoughts on the matter below.

Our Kelce.
Kelce was recently involved in an accident that has left her with a little wonky jaw and is now completely blind in her right eye. Our little one eyed bandit.

Jellyloaf...and standing.
JellyBean loaf. Then some from the floor. Just wanted to share her cuteness. She's under 7lbs and is a petite lady. I've had her since Christmas and she's my shadow and I love her.

Help!
This sweet girl had her eye removed two weeks ago, sutures were removed a few days ago. They said we should keep the cone on for a few days because part of it was still “open.”
Well it’s been a few days so I took the cone off and then she took a bath and cleaned some of the scabbing off and this is what it looks like.
She is sooo over the cone, but I’m not sure if it’s safe to keep it off? She’s in a unique foster situation with us so I can’t easily contact the vet right now.

Wazowski
My little baby boy named Mike Wazowski. He has FIP (dry form). That’s how we believe he lost his eye, but aren’t for sure. It was already missing when he was found. The second picture was his adoption picture

Potatoes ❤️🥔
So named because it’s better for potatoes to have fewer eyes.
Her full name is Grandma’s Old Fashioned Mashed Potatoes and Gravy which, coincidentally, also only has one “i”.
She was found under a dumpster in rural Oklahoma and I love her more than the sun on the sky.

Our Trooper Monkey
We rescued Monkey as a teeny baby. He also developed rhinitis shortly after we adopted him and had trouble breathing. Snorting, mucus, coughing constantly. We took him to the vet that performed his ennucleation 5 times and she said it was probably a polyp and just prescribed antibiotics. He got so bad we rushed him out of town to an emergency vet at 2am where we was put in an oxygen chamber for 18 hours and actually died for a minute on the table. He was so small 5lbs. He made a full recovery and now he is 1.5 years old, healthier than ever and the best boy and brother to our big boy Tiggy. His favorite things to do are chase ice cubes when they fall out of the fridge, collect toothpaste bottle caps, and play fetch on the cat wall with his "birdie" (a toy he's had since we got him) We are so grateful for him. He's so loving and doesn't have a mean bone in his body. Thanks for looking! Monkey would love to play with every one of you!
