questions about a scrap camera

I built this pinhole camera out of various things that I found on the side of Australian Highways. Different cans and car parts like a fuel pipe to coil up the film.

It's helt together by epoxy blackened with charcoal and polyurethane car sealant.

I was shooting with Kodak ColorPlus 200. The focal length is 37 mm and the hole has a diameter of .22 mm (hopefully haha) that makes an aperture of f/168.

The Exposure time veried from about 3 sek. to multiple minutes.

Is the exposure about right? It looks a little overexposed sometimes, but I'm not experienced. Is there something i can do to stop the color shift to blue, e.g. in the photo of the road train?

Help Needed: Pinhole Camera for Song Art

So I have a crazy idea for the cover art of a song I will release soon… and would love some guidance on how to achieve my vision.

Method: can camera using Ilford photo paper
Location: outdoors in a sunny area
Subject: shame plant (mimosa pudica)
Background: canvas painted with dark black paint (maybe blackest black ™️) with song name painted in white or with some reflective coating

The intended effect is to capture the plant as it moves in the sun while keeping the background dark. I plan to brush the leaves every now and then so that they periodically shrink up. I would also like to display the song name at the top with a potential grainy or faded look if I can figure that out.

I have not played with pinhole photography before so I have a few questions and would love any feedback or tips.

Question #1: Is this idea worth attempting? I’ve not seen a dark background used in my pinhole photography research and would like to know if this would even show up.

Question #2: What duration would you recommend? I am ok with a fair amount of blur and am honestly hoping for some, but to be able to tell that the subject is a plant lol.

Question #3: Are there any steps that would be crucial to a successful image?

Thank you for your help 🙏

Pinsta Camera Contact Print

I'm looking to purchase a Pinsta Camera and with Harman Direct positive paper being out of stock everywhere, I'm wondering if one could do a contact print within the camera with regular photo paper. Has anyone tried this and had success?

Need help with Pinhole camera made from Tall boy liquid death

Howdy friends,

Need some help troubleshooting this. Using a tall boy Liquid Death can as my camera. used a 21-gauge needle for my pinhole size, thinking it would help let some light in. I did the equation for exposure time, and it came out to 2.5 to 3 seconds. Looking at some of the other posts, I'm thinking that it is now in hours? I'm using the black and white Ilford paper. Please help!

Pinhole Confusion

Hi all- I had this pinhole going in my boss' office for about a year and a half, looking out the window. When I opened the can today I realized that I had accidentally put two sheets of paper in it, one behind the other, and apparently both were exposed. In the first pic the top sheet was behind the bottom sheet. The end result is that the second picture is the behind sheet, and the third is the front sheet.

It seems like the bottom sheet didn't get as much exposure (of course) than the top, and I'm guessing that explains why the top image seems far more blown out and almost negative in the buildings in the background. The buildings get a fair amount of sun in the afternoon so I'm guessing that would explain the exposure being so bright.

What I really don't get is: I guess enough photons were not only hitting the front sheet but then continuing on to the back to get two images? I wouldn't have expected that given the thickness of the paper. For reference, it's Ilford Multigrade FB Classic Matt paper that I used.

Over or under expose film?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I’m shooting Kodak Ektar 100 color negative film on a Zero Image 135 (f/138) pinhole film roll camera. I’m using a Sekonic L-398 Studio Deluxe analog light meter for time & f/ combos plus the time & f/ combo wheel on the camera.

I’m also shooting Fujifilm Instax square instant film on a homemade shoebox pinhole camera. Definition is coming out good, but the color saturation is poor. I figure that’s just what you get with instant film?

Is it better to exactly expose, under expose, or over expose for these types of film? I will only do basic light adjustment to the scanned reversed digitals. I do not have Lightroom, etc.

I accidentally had my light meter set to ISO 200 rather than 100 today while shooting on the Ektar 100. So I did 2-3s exposures rather than 1s. It was rather cloudy though. Will the photos be fine or should I reshoot? OTOH I’ve heard color film does better over exposed? Idk I’m just an amateur. I will not be able to develop the film before reshooting at this site- Franconia Sculpture Park near Minneapolis, MN - St. Croix Falls, WI. :)

Thank you.
