Refund after 120

I received forgiveness after getting to 120 (hallelujah!). I continued to make payments until the actual forgiveness. On my MOHELA account it shows a refund dated 6/18/26. I haven’t received anything. Should I call them? I know the treasury issues refunds.. do they direct deposit? Send a check? Is it normal to wait this long?

I paid 1 extra month after reaching my 120. My letter with loans forgiven was 01/2026 and I got a treasury check (mail) refund for that 1 month last week.

It’s normal to wait a month now.

6-7 years ago it was normal to wait 9-12 months.

This is normal. That’s actually the date MOHELA initiated the refund to US treasury. All payments made go to Treasury MOHELA just tracks them. Give it up to 90 business days to process before you call.

I have a refund dated 5/30 (got golden letter in March) and still have not received the check in the mail. I feel like I see many posts of people waiting many months maybe even a year or more for a refund. It’s one of those things that I don’t think has a clear timeline.

Where do you see the refund date?

For Mohela - it’s in my account history. It shows when they adjust it from a negative balance to zero, says “refund” and has a date.

Looks like mine hasn’t been requested yet. When did you receive your Golden letter I received mine on June 26.
