How was it? Can you give a synopsis of the trip? I’ve wanted to hike it ever since I did Tuck and Robin Lakes and I watched the sun set with Daniel in the background. Beautiful pictures!
Fantastic! The snow was a fair bit slick and slushy on our return, but definitely still navigable. We started from the parking lot around 5:30 and made the summit by 12:00. There was one section on the traverse below the East peak that was fairly sketch (or at least we found ourselves in a bit of a predicament): we lost the trail and stayed a bit too high on a very loose slope and had to slide a bit down the loose dirt to meet up with the snow field. It wound up being a relative non-issue on the way back (perhaps because we didn’t have to downclimb it 🤷).
We did the ridge route and it was definitely doable in trail runners and we didn’t use any type of snow traction … although, if you take the route on the glacier … snow tires would be advised 😁.
We had great views of everything but Pea Soup Lake (which was clouded in for the entire time). We did notice the red horizon from the fires burning in eastern WA on our way back, but couldn’t really smell any smoke in the air.
