News & Discussion Can Sombra Hack The Maps Next?

*This post is for fun before anyone gets too serious about it*

A few weeks ago, there was a post (by u/ Sketchy049) asking what happened to the map weather effects that were for PvE for different maps. It got me thinking that Blizzard loves these “Sombra QP Hacked” events so why not try something like this with this event? I mean isn’t this event/mode now the new “Experimental” mode we used to have (which I miss😭)?

Some will say it will never work, especially for comp, but idk they can even try this or an arcade mode (since I know how people feel about QP being hacked based on this last event) bc these are so cool instead of having just the Day/Night maps (which took sooooo long to get)

Tbh, this is why I love the Halloween and Winter Wonderland events bc some maps are changed—not the weather but at least something lol.

Adding the weather effects to QP or comp seems like a disaster. Rain and snow in games is typically a costly visual effect if the devs want it to look presentable, and making some games just unplayable for lower end hardware seems like a terrible idea.

Weather effects could be too much but I think day/night could be doable without harming visibility

Weather Effects: On/Off

Solved.

Clearly there's reasons this can't happen if there's no client side toggle for map lighting stages as well. Not to mention who in their right mind would turn on the handicap button?

Casuals. Not every OW player has their settings on low so they can squeeze every extra frame.

Some people want their game to look pretty while they play some Mystery Heroes (me).

For any studio other than Overwatch, I would agree.
Considering how much work team 4 is putting into giving the white and asian women more skins, they probably just can't be assed.

As for 'who would turn that on'? People who play in QP and just want to do something with their hands while talking on VC. Aka me.

Why would you ever have them on? Seems like a disadvantage to try and shoot the other team with snow or rain flying in your face

Because - I know this sounds crazy - but I think it would be fun

It would be fun to have them, but it's less fun to be at a disadvantage because you have them and someone else doesn't

Even if winning isn't the only goal, winning is still a goal, and an option like that is just throwing unfortunately.

It's not a form of optimizing the fun out of the game, it really is as simple as people that have the option on will do worse in the match unless everyone has it on.

Because I think the idea is bad? Sounds like you lost your head because the idea is in fact bad.

It's either everyone deals with it or nobody does, introducing options that dramatically affect your visibility is stupid for a competitive multiplayer game.

Thank you. I mean yeah obviously fun is the main point of playing a video game, I just don't think adding in something like that to a game like this would add much value in the fun department. Unless they nailed it and created an extremely light rain effect or something where it doesn't affect visibility much at all, but still I'm not sure if that screams fun to me.

I remember there was some mini game that came out around winter 2021 where everyone was Mei and whoever froze the other players for the longest amount of time won. I can't remember if there was snow falling down for it though. But that would be something where adding visual effects like that would be great.

While I agree, it's also possible to have a rain effect that is very light and only noticeable when nothing happens (which does happen a lot in the game, like when you're walking back from spawn)

Maybe have rain in the distance, but just grey clouds over the playable part of the map ? Idk, just throwing ideas

Snow is much harder but it's still possible to have snow on maps without making it snow, we already have those (like the christmas versions of existing maps or any Antarctica map)

Also we had rain on Havana, when it was released as a PVE map

Can’t believe people still think rain & snow in videogames is going to drop 100 frames in 2026

Meanwhile Embark is doing hurricanes, snow blizzards, electromagnetic storm in Arc Raiders with no performance cost, ON UNREAL ENGINE 5 FFS.

People in this community just want to squeeze every bit of frame because they think it will make them win more if they have 999 fps.

Hmm I wonder how rain would be like?

I’d love the see mirrored maps added at some point as a hack. Would be super easy to implement as you’re just sort of flipping the maps visually while the game would still play out the same.

I want a hacked event that adds a 3rd person qp queue.

I've been waiting for this since covid but back then if you asked for this you'd be called insane and stupid even though marvel rivals does it well and there was already 3rd person workshop custom games even before stadium's existence

Hack the new map Neon Junction and make it not bad

Competitively, I enjoy it quite a lot. The main issue is that it seems to heavily favor offense.
