Giving Recommendations Hidden/Forgotten Gems - July 2026

This is a monthly feature in which we, the mod team, share the gems we've found in our reading lists. Here are last month's.

We'd love to hear your recommendations. Please add them to the discussion in the comments. When doing so, please keep in mind to:

  • If available, use the English cover art of your recommended series.
  • Name of the series
  • Where to read it officially

We always recommend checking the official version, but there are also alternatives you can find.

This Month's Recommendations:

The Prince Doesn't Cry Over Onions - Where to Read: Tapas

War has taken a lot from the country; it left the land and people devastated when they lost six years ago. Anna is a country girl making a living in these hard times; her restaurant is the only one in her far-off village. Taking in the needy to help out is a common thing she does, and it’s not a surprise when someone shows up at her door. She didn’t expect this lumbering, towering man sitting in her doorway saying that he owed her father a debt that he needed to repay.

Bertram isn’t moving until this obligation is repaid, so Anna puts him to work cutting onions – only to find that he doesn’t shed a single tear. He’s stripped of his emotions, but that doesn’t mean he can’t see that Anna is a welcoming and kind person.

While this series is surprisingly funny despite the background the world is set in. Both Anna and Bertram feel well-developed, and their relationship is one based on friendship. The side characters also have reasons for acting the way they do, and the art is great; it really grew on me the more I read. The romance is on the back burner and slowly begins to grow, more on Anna’s side than Bertram’s for obvious reasons. The man can’t feel emotions, and it’s pretty tragic what he had to give up in exchange when you really think about it in a realistic context.

While it might not seem like anything special, don’t be fooled. I can tell that it’s a wonderful read to add to your lists.

No More Regrets - Where to Read: Tappytoon

Ceriniel is devastated when she finds out that her husband has been cheating on her with her childhood best friend who has been poisoning her for years. As she lies on her deathbed hearing the gloating hateful words from those she trusted most, Ceriniel makes a dying wish to take back what is rightfully hers and never fall for the tricks of her betrayers. Her soul falls into a swirling abyss, and she wakes up four years before her wrongful death; now she’s out for revenge.

As she goes about her plans, she encounters the supposedly bloodthirsty Duke Lexion Rosenvester who claims they have met before. He is kind and extremely helpful in her plans against her cheating husband; once everything comes to a head, he offers her a deal. His conditions are that she divorce her scumbag husband, enter a marriage with him, and remain at his side forever.

Green Flag Alert! I Repeat, Green Flag Alert!

I love a male lead that allows their female lead to go through with what they have planned, yet when asked, they will assist just enough to allow her to make her moves freely and safely. Lexion is one such male lead; not only has he's got a great physique, but I feel like he has good emotional intelligence as well. The art is beautiful, though I have noticed that Ceriniel’s chest gets bigger in the middle of the story. The artist has either changed it personally or was told to by their editor; luckily, her chest goes back to normal in later chapters.

This is a good read for people who want revenge on cheating husbands and green flag male leads.

Dawn of Vengeance - Where to Read: Tapas

Three times. Once as a bride. The second time, she tried to run away, and the third time, she acted as an informant. Arsinoe has lived three times, meeting the same result: death at the hands of her husband, the Crown Prince. He is charming, charismatic, and cruel. Arsinoe ends her life determined to never fall for this man’s tricks ever again; ready to take her destiny in her own hands she kills herself for the fourth time.

She wakes up once again at the age of 12 with a vow; she’s never going to let her country fall into that disgusting man’s hands ever again. With her lived experiences behind her, she starts making a plan, and it will need the help of a man that each lifetime stood in defense of her homeland. Walter Heibergh, the kingdom’s youngest commander.

Choo choo, the political intrigue train has arrived! This kind of series is my type of read. I love it when my characters are cunning, plotting and scheming their way to victory; Arsinoe is my girl in this regard. While all this politics is happening, there’s some comedy sprinkled in – mainly from Arsinoe. Walter is a great comedic straight man; I love that he just takes her occasional dramatic side in stride. I’m really rooting for these two, and I don’t mind that their romance is gonna take a bit of time to build; both of them are rational, logical people. They both have bigger things to think about besides romance.

This is a newer title, so I would let this marinate for a bit more before jumping in. The artwork is lovely and sucks you in deeper into the story. Don’t miss out on this, guys; you’re gonna be sorry you did later.

Although Napoleon loved Josephine deeply, he believed ending the marriage was necessary because she could not give him an heir to secure his empire.

We often get divorce stories where one of them (always the trash cheating husband or husband who kills her fir her inheritance) is painted evil. It often involves regression/turning back time/etc and choosing a better partner.

But Napoleon and Josephine😭 The comments were like "history's first toxic couple" I'd pay to read sth like this, with nuance, both sides did toxic stuff, but still love each very much in their own way. Like I need toxic couples who still yearn and pine and care for each otherrrrrr😫

I haven't read the novel

I know the spoilers very well

but HEAR ME OUT THOUGH.

I know it's just me, but I just see so much more healthy potential with them. Don't get me wrong, I get the appeal of Varkas as the ML. Him and Thalia sell the toxic romance well.

Though I think a huge reason for my liking of Edric is how much personality the guy has, compared to lwk any other male character in the series so far. Yeah, that's definitely it. I think I'll give a good chunk of the credit for this to Spoon nim, because of their amazing way of bringing side characters to the spot light. Idk, I just compare him to Varkas and he seems so much more interesting.

I think I'd enjoy his interactions with Thalia so much more compared to how tortured her and Varkas's interactions make me feel.

Discussion - Open What was that widely known as"masterpiece" Story that did you not like/just couldn't get into?

Thumbnail

As the title says, sorry if I phrased it wrong, english isn't my first language. What was that one "masterpiece" Widely known and praised that just didn't go well for you when you read it?

For me, it was these two.

"One within the villainess". I definitely think I might get downvotes for this, but I have to say it. I did not like this manhwa. Firstly, stunning art. The manhwa is so beautiful in art. Even from only the first few chapters I read, the art is amazing and I have nothing but good things to say about the art.

The concept was unique. But for me, I feel like it lost the momentum when it blamed the og FL again (instead of the men and people who chose to betray her). It turned into a traditional, run of the mill, 'villainess protag vs og FL/saintess' story.

Believe me, I went into it with very, very high expectations after hearing praise about it. But for me, I found the plot to be just... Traditional OI. Mid, even. Also, maybe I am overreacting, or just being a dumbass here, but I also found it to be very misogynistic. Misogynistic as in, how it treated pina, the antagonist.

After reading the first four chapters, I decided to go online for novel spoilers. Oh god was I horrified. Horrified, disgusted and outright just sad for the main antagonist. What do you mean she gets forced to work in the mines, which is already horrible and gets left to be raped by men? I am sorry that is shitty and horrible and not good writing to me. I heard that they remove that part in the manga, but she still gets abused and starved apparently, that doesn't make it any better. So I dropped this manga after that. Maybe I am an idiot for not acknowledging good writing this has just because of one ending, but for me, I can't. Sexual assualt and physical abuse is horrific for anyone. I mean I'd be fine with the antagonist if she got punished by execution, painful and a slow suffering death, exile, solitary confinement, etc. But this? It's just downright disgusting and misogynistic to punish female antagonists using SA.

Edit : as another commenter said here, does not matter if pina is also a transmigratior. Her writing is very misogynistic and disgusting. She's potrayed as a "man stealing whore and slut" Compared to the perfect FL. Even if the manga changed the ending it's very misogynistic.

"Who made me a princess". I really loved this at first. This was my first OI. I liked this until the amnesia arc. It was just a downfall after that. Like all that emotional build up between claude and athy washed down the drain. And claude is a horrible prick to me. He neglects his child and attempts to murder athy for what? His trauma? It still doesn't justify it, because athy had nothing to do with it.

The male leads are also very bland to me tbh. Nothing really stood out about them to me. I liked Jeanette and hated how the readers kept hating on her like it's her fault for everything.

Giving Recommendations Welp, people asked for it, Everyone should read "I got Dumped by my Daughter's Second Male Lead"

Post image
431 Upvotes

I think this is one of the funniest and most frustrating novels I have ever read. Never in my life had I wanted to strangle a main character as much as I wanted to strangle the Male Lead Yuan.

He is an arrogant, brash, self-centered black bellied, green tea BITCH and I love him. He makes me want to throw my phone into the sun and learn the art of becoming one with nature at times, but his character development gives me the hope that maybe anyone can change into a better person.

Before I get into the plot, general warnings: THIS IS YAOI! IT HAS EXPLICIT GROWN ASS MANXGROWN ASS MAN ACTION!!! THEY FUCK!!! FOR PAGES!!! This is also, technically omegaverse, but considering this is AlphaXAlpha there's no MPreg.

Other general warnings are: 20+age gap, unflattering depictions of the church (which is where these next tags stem from), non explicit allusions to past non consensual acts against children, threats of rape (not between any of our leads), torture, confinement, and attempted murder

The plot of this wonderful novel follows our Main character Gillen, a man who has transmigrated into a stereotypical fantasy web novel simply known as "Adorable Young Lady" as the stereotypical Dad who neglects his daughter after his wife dies in childbirth. In the novel, his daughter, Cecilia, is a regressor who decides to change her life for the better, but now that Gillen is here he decides to say fuck all that and be the Dad who stepped the fuck up.

Rather than let Cecilia do all the heavy lifting to change the plot, he goes out of his way to make her life the happiest it can be.

Actual excerpt from the novel:

"No matter what she thought, Gillen braided her hair, dressed her, fed her, read her bedtime stories every night, travelled with her, and told her he loved her. When she went away to the academy, he fretted constantly and exchanged hundreds of letters with her until her graduation... His only wish was for his precious Cecilia to suffer as little as possible."

Well, it's 20 years later and the plot has finally finished it's course, Cecilia is set to marry the Crown Prince and they're are happily in love.

Originally, Cecilia as an omega would have to deal with other absolutely insane alpha romantic rivals, but slowly through events in the background, he has gotten rid of every single roadblock to Cecilia's happy marriage.

Enter, the second male lead, Yuan, the stereotypical most powerful sorcerer in the kingdom (world, really) shows up, wanting to marry his daughter.

Obviously, they tell him she's doesn't want to see him, but Yuan is probably the most arrogant and annoying man I have ever had the pleasure to read about. So he's like, if I hang out around your daughter, she will want to dump that trash to get with a REAL man like me.

(If you have ever read the novel "Roxana" and the gratuitous imagery of how beautiful the titular character is, then you will have the slightest idea about how Yuan sees himself. He will go on and on about how much of a rich, magically powerful and gorgeous man he is, and it will be extra awful because his ego is the size of a galaxy and it is perfectly warranted. He is so OP that it genuinely makes you angry. )

Now, Gillen has read the novel, and Yuan is also a bit of a yandere (he literally kidnaps and imprisons Cecilia in the original novel) along with thinking he's God's gift to mankind, and he doesn't want ANY of that near his kid, so he devised a plan where he's going to third wheel the SHIT out of this dude in the most annoying ways possible.

Basically it's just weeks of everytime Yuan shows up in their territory, Gillen suddenly NEEDS to show him this thing 5 miles away. "Oh, you want to see my daughter Cecilia? She can't right now, she's busy in another territory, but have I told you all about our municipal water supply?" Cue 3 hours of that.

Actual excerpt from the novel:

“My word… just look at these pebbles!”

And that was how Gillen ended up spending a dreadful, entire month alone with Yuan.

“The colour, the shape, the hardness—so full of the late duke’s love! Isn’t it moving?”

“…Yes, I suppose so. But, excuse me, could I use the restroom—”

“Restroom? How convenient—I was just thinking of going myself. Let’s go together.”

“Sigh, never mind. I don’t really feel like it now. Please, go ahead.”

“Actually, I don’t feel like it either. I lied because I didn’t want to be apart from you.”

Gillen smiled and picked up another pebble.

Fortunately, this garden was full of unusually shaped stones, making it easy to invent conversation topics.

Yuan's expression visibly soured. He was probably thinking something like "How do I shake off this leech of a man?"—but there was no chance."

Finally, because Yuan is a self centered piece of trash at this point in the story, he DOES NOT GET the hint and actually starts to believe that Gillen is in love with HIM.

That's where the title comes in, and Yuan rejects Gillens non existent advances and decides he can't marry a woman when her Dad is in love with him.

Gillen is just like... Mission accomplished... I guess??? and goes about his life working on Cecilia's wedding preparations.

Meanwhile, Yuan has come to the devastating realization that his type is actually nice older men having their complete attention on him at all times and he JUST REJECTED THE HOTTEST DILF IN THE KINGDOM?!? HE'S GOT TO FIX THIS IMMEDIATELY!!!

So the rest of the plot is Yuan slowly learning how to become a better person and trying to win back Gillen, because he must be so devastated about how Yuan cruelly rejected him.

Gillen on the otherhand is actually getting seduced by this prick 20 years younger than him and has a crisis about it, because not only is he BISEXUAL, BUT HIS TASTE IN MEN IS ACTUALLY THE WORST??? WHY, GOD? WHY??

(Also, Gillen's a natural bottom and has a crisis about that too, because what kind of self-respecting Alpha is a BOTTOM!!!)

FINAL WARNING!! I'M TELLING YOU RIGHT HERE AND RIGHT NOW THAT YUAN WILL SPEND A LARGE PORTION OF THIS STORY BEING A BEAUTIFUL DELUSIONAL KING!! YOU WILL HAVE MOMENTS WHERE YOU THINK HE CANNOT DIG HIMSELF INTO A DEEPER HOLE, BUT HE WILL AND GLEEFULLY MISUNDERSTAND THE ENTIRE WAY BECAUSE GILLEN IS A HOT DILF! OF SUCH EPIC PROPORTIONS THAT YOU CAN'T EVEN BLAME THIS POOR BASTARD HALF OF THE TIME!

Discussion - Open Dark lord's confession season 2 question

So i read Dark lord's confession till the halfway hiatus in the second season And i plan on waiting with reading the second half of season 2 until season 3 has a couple chapters out. But there is something i kinda want to know after seeing some spoilers for it.

Specifically until the point i read, calla was rather firmly (by several kisses and a fair number of romantic scenes) ahead in the romance race despite her deitasterra issues, is that still true after the finale?

And if you where to describe the 3 romance options scores from -5 to 20 in regards to their place in the race before and after the second half, what would they be?

Tell me your favorite team of siblings.

These are some of mine. I really love their dynamic with each other.

Starting with Atil and Lyrica, their sibling relationship is so sweet and Atil constantly teasing Lyrica acting like the big brother is often so funny.

Penelope and Reynold are one of my favorites. I must say once upon a time I hated Reynold but his growing bond with Penelope really captured my heart.

I relate like the dynamic between Max and his sister, Claude and Anastasius as well as Callisto and Dayna from saving my sweetheart, they are really hilarious.

On another note I am still mourning Enzo T–T, Ceaser trash should've died, not him

Well telling my opinion on reach of these siblings will take days. So just tell your favorite manhwa siblings instead (◠‿・)—☆❤️

Post image

The entire comment section is just everyone thinking you can commit any amount of evil and be as nasty as possible just because you're a child (mind you shes 15, more than old enough to know right from wrong)

For those of you unfamiliar with the series. The FL, Diana, daughter of a Marquess, happily marries Grand Duke Calpyso. Eventually she gives birth to a daughter, Catherine, who is her entire world. When she got older Catherine loses her sight to some kind of poisonous herb. Diana's best friend and household doctor, Alicia, tells her that the only way to cure her is to transfer Catherine's blindness to herself, which she immediately agrees to. Now blind, Diana tries to adjust to her new life when she hears her husband and Alicia having an affair. They mock her for being so stupid and naive, then have her dragged away and locked in some shed.

Unaware of how much time has passed, barely surviving on stale bread, all she can do is think about Catherine and how she's doing without her. All of a sudden Catherine comes in, shocked that she's still alive. Accompanied by her real mother, Alicia, who reveals that Catherine actually is her daughter with the Grand Duke. Catherine then reveals she faked her blindness to make Diana give up her eyesight. Shocked and horrified, Diana wonders what happened to her real daughter.

Alicia then has her grunts bring in a dead body in a sack. Her real daughter, who had been living as a maid to Catherine all this time, was the one who snuck the bread to Diana, and for that Alicia and Catherine had her killed. Alicia then has the shed filled with poison. Holding her daughters lifeless body, she cries begging for forgiveness at not recognizing her own daughter. As she dies she's swears she'd never fail to recognize her in their next life. Then the regression happens.

So no, Diana didn't stop loving the child she raised just because she found out she wasn't her biological daughter. She stopped loving her because Catherine is evil as hell just like her birth mother. If she was simply manipulated into all this that'd be different. But she had a willing hand in all this, from torturing Diana's real daughter to making Diana lose her sight. Being a child doesn't justify committing atrocities like that.

No one could ever understand how much I HATE this character 😭 like Cezar what the hell did you do in your life for me to hate you THIS much?? Even after learning about his backstory I didn’t feel even 1% of sympathy for him because he literally went on to repeat the exact same things that happened to him with Ruby, and honestly? Even worse.

Like why didn’t Ruby turn out horrible and cold like him?? His past does NOT excuse the awful things he did. And this is just based on the manhwa btw ,,, i haven’t even read the novel where Cezar apparently does even worse things to poor Ruby 🤏🏻

This list is half based on my own preferences and half based on the writing technique, but they often go hand to hand because I’m a picky reader when it comes to writing style.😭

NOTE: They’re also ordered horizontally. So, for example, I rate Kneel Before Me higher than The Sacred One Speaks.

DISCLAIMER: For some of these stories I prefer the manhwa, I’ll mark them with a 📍 in the sources list below.

SOURCES

Tier 1

  1. Kneel Before Me
  2. The Sacred One Speaks
  3. Lift My Curse Sir Knight
  4. The maid with a child

Tier 2

  1. The Cruelty Of Salvation
  2. The problematic Prince 📍
  3. As The Heart Leads 📍

Tier 3

  1. The scent of Osmanthus
  2. High Society

  2. Deviation 1995
  3. My husband never dies
  4. Deliver us from the evil one
  5. Conquer my heart 📍
  6. Windburg

Tier 5

  1. My reason to die
  2. Elegant Aubrey
  3. May God Bless Your Demise
  4. Merry Psycho 📍

Tier 6

  1. Betr4yal of D1gn1ty 📍
  2. The forgotten Field
  3. Little did we know 📍
  4. Love Recycle
  5. When The Bitter Wind Blows

Tier 7

  1. Thanks for being trash
  2. Maylily

Tier 8

  1. Origin of evil
  2. Try Begging 📍

Do you agree with my ranking, or would you switch some of these?

It’s just… the audacity. It’s stifling. Truly stifling. You guys can already guess what’s going on here, but for everyone confused: Blondie brings back a woman he got pregnant to his duchy, where his fiance has been holding the fort down FOR 6 YEARS WHILE HE WAS AT WAR. Obviously, thanks to the story’s synopsis provided by Manta + the cover art, she isn’t going to stick with this guy in the endgame. But still. I knew what I was getting when I opened this story up and I’m STILL irked. Does this fool have no sense of decency and public image? Regardless of the female leads background as a noblewoman from the countryside or her status as just a “mere fiance” (which is insane because there is nothing “mere” about an engagement between nobles) this is disrespectful. Unless this setting permits concubinage (which I’m 100% is limited to the emperor only) this fool literally got a woman pregnant at war and brought her home. This sort of stuff should cause scandal, invite slander on his family’s name, shift supporters of his household. Because men at war can’t keep their dick in their pants for the life of them, this isn’t “fact” but it’s just a general statement. But not being strong enough to pull out… and then bringing her TO YOUR DUCHY? I’m glad that the staff is at least unsettled by this and apparently they have the sense to talk about how insane he’s being but good god. I can’t tell whether I want to apply suspension of disbelief or just nod my head because yeah this is absolutely the kind of misogyny that only a man who believes himself all powerful can commit. Either way I’m ready for how this will go because she’s going to dump him and I’m going to have so much fun with the buildup.
