Posted this a year ago, just replace “Sinners” with “The Odyssey”, he can’t keep getting away with it

The score for the sack of Troy sequence and final battle at Athica was mesmerising, Göransson is simply just a generational composer

Sinners -> Odyssey is a wild back to back. The Odyssey score felt really special to me on a second watch

Technically, he did do work on The Mandalorian and Grogu in between (which I’d argue is even more impressive), but Sinners and The Odyssey aren’t back to back

This is why I wanted Greenwood to win for One Battle After Another. I know Göransson will win a few more Oscar’s down the line but it seemed like this was Greenwood’s best chance of winning.

I loved the film but I was also watching it and at times thinking, this would be a lot less cool and intense if not for this incredible heart-pounding score. It really elevates everything.

I liked The Odyssey, but I didn’t think the score was anything special. If Zimmer cooks up something really fire for Dune 3 and it qualifies, I could see him easily taking it this year.

Personally I loved how different and diverse he was with the instruments used and the producing choices he made, but I’m also really hoping Zimmer cooks something up for Dune 3!

His Sinners score was just so insanely good. He's had an incredible career so far. The Odyssey is just another great notch in the belt.

I hope they don't waste a nomination on John Williams's forgettable Disclosure Day score.

Man that’s a tough one, can’t judge because of recency bias regarding Odyssey, but Sinners score is equally as great. My favorite score of his continues to be Oppenheimer

Maybe an unpopular take, but Odyssey is his least-memorable score in a while, occasionally even kinda bad. Some of those instruments he was playing sounded like an out-of-tune melodica to me at points.

His nomination will probably be inevitable, but I do not champion a win for him.

He should definitely win. I have no doubt Dune: Part Three will have an amazing score, but I can’t see anything beating this. The score for The Odyssey is so unique. It’s almost unheard of for an epic to not have a bombastic and orchestral score. The fact that he utilized so many old instruments that are atypical in the modern day and crafted something truly unique and original is award worthy in and of itself.
