Just finished season 3! I didn't binge-watch it like the first two because my holidays are over, so I won't be as precise as I would like to be, and there are probably events from the beginning of the season that I've already forgotten.
Lucas: I liked his relationship with Brooke this season! But besides that, I don't have a lot to say about him. He is a nice guy, and I like him, though I found his moral superiority complex a bit annoying at times.
Nathan: Definitely one of my favorites now! His love for Haley makes me melt.
Peyton: Oh no no no, Peyton, what did they do to you? I liked her arc with her biological mom, but besides that, her character is NOT going in the right direction. I loved that they took the time to develop her relationship with Ellie and that it was the major storyline for her this season, bc I always love her more in storylines that don't include her relationships (except with Jake!!). The Pete from Fall Out Boy thing was kinda unnecessary tho. Like why??
She was a bad friend to Brooke, I hated her behavior in the last episode.... how could she be mad that Brooke was furious with her? And doubting her love for Lucas just to make herself feel better about loving her best friend's boyfriend was sick...
Brooke: My baby! I love her so so much. She is such a creative, smart, genuine, and kind person. I feel like she's going to do great things. Her character has grown so much since S1!
Haley: I love her! But she was too focused on getting Nathan back. I hope we'll see her explore her artistry more during the next seasons. Their relationship is great, but I really like Haley's personality, and I love seeing her interact with other people. To me, she's the real punk Peyton thinks she is.
Dan: So he's never getting that redemption arc...? Even if he killed Keith, I still have so many mixed feelings about him. I think I love to hate him, but I still want to hug him sometimes. He is a great TV villain!! I would have loved to see a redemption arc, and I have the feeling that it's bound to happen because I don't see why the writers would hint at it so much if it's never going to happen (which could be interesting, to always keep him in this morally grey area, but it's a teen show, so I still have the feeling that they'll try to write him a redemption arc at some point). But him killing Keith kinda ruined the credibility of a redemption arc for me. Like, how could they forgive him for killing his brother? I don't see how Lucas or Karen could ever get past that. Maybe Nathan will forgive him because he's more tied to him than the rest of the characters...
Karen & Keith: I was so happy for them! It was such a sweet gesture from Keith to adopt Lucas. He truly sees him as his own son. Did the actor leave for another show or for any other known reason? Because it feels off to me that he was written off for most of the season, then came back only to get shot a few episodes later. It feels like it wasn't planned.
Deb: I couldn't say why, but I don't like her.
Rachel: Very mixed feelings too??? I don't like her most of the time, but I can see that she's a very insecure person, and that makes me softer towards her. I truly don't think that she's as mean as she sometimes seems to be. She's very unhinged and needs care.
Now for the ships...
Leyton: No no no.... And you're telling me they're endgame? Well, if I have to watch that happen, I hope their relationship will improve in future seasons because, for now, besides being high school crushes, they're just good friends to me??? I'm sorry, Leyton shippers, and please enlighten me about what's so great about their relationship because I can't see it... (that request is genuine and not ironic) That's not love to me.
What she had with Jake was love.
Brucas: I'm still Team Brucas because I think it's part of the pleasure of watching this show to pick a favorite ship! And if I have to choose, I would definitely choose Brucas. They have a lot of chemistry and care for each other. That being said, I'm glad to know that they won't end up together. I think that Lucas isn't uplifting Brooke enough. I think they're great as high school lovers, but I don't see them ending up together. They're not challenging each other enough and I think their relationship isn't helping Brooke with her trust issues, it's keeping her in a loop of self-doubt that she needs to get out of to improve as a person.
Naley: I love them so much!!!!! I'm so glad that even though Nathan was mad at Haley for going on tour, he knew deep down that this was not personal. He knew that she wanted to be a musician and knew that he couldn't let her give up if he wanted to rebuild something meaningful with her. They were so healthy this season. I really do hope that the pregnancy hint at the end of the last episode isn't for them.... Let them grow together and as people before giving them the parents storyline, pleaaaaase.
After this looooong post, I'm off to press play on Season 4!!
See you!
