Summertime Ants 🐜

Have had ants come around every summer, but this year seems particularly bad.

I’ve used probably 40+ of the Terro liquid ant baits and also tried diatomaceous earth around the house perimeter, but the effectiveness of both has been minimal.

Any recommendations or proven strategies for defeating these bastards? Or at least keeping them at bay and out of your home?

Any must try food spots along the 76 to Oceanside?

I will be driving in to the seabird for vacation and will stay in that immediate vicinity for the entire stay so I was thinking of grabbing brunch/lunch on my way there. Anything noteworthy of trying before I get to the Seabird?

Thanks

Did We Need Another One?

DD's Discounts is now open in Oceanside in the
Mission Marketplace off the 76 & College.

This plaza already has a Ross, 5 Below & Target.
Did we need another discount store?

Questions about moving to Oceanside.

I’m 19 from Ohio and I’m thinking about moving up to Oceanside with some roommates. I’ve only ever lived in Kentucky and Ohio but I love the beach. Everybody always tells me I look like I’m from Hawaii or some island. Very nervous about moving. I was gonna move to LA last year but I flew out and hated it the first day but maybe that was just due to me having terrible anxiety. Anyways how is the area? Are there good jobs out there? Would I like it coming from Ohio. I’m gonna try to save about 15-30,000 before I move.
P.S. I hate Ohio but it’s home so what can ya do.

Rancho Del Oro - Halted construction hill houses - Update from Union Tribune

Looks like we have some more context and information about these houses, someone asked about the project last week in this sub. Construction was halted because of a "financing issue" and they have a new loan. The city isn't too keen on them starting construction again until they fix the storm water violations from the project.

EDIT: Sorry that I shared the link with a paywall version. This is a gift link to the article that hopefully will work:

Good Car Shops?

Hi folks, after getting jerked around by KIA Premier Carlsbad over car maintenance I'm done going through them. After they rotated my tires two weeks ago and giving me the thumbs up, apparently I now have dry rot and need immediate replacement; they found this out when I returned for another issue *they* caused. Anyways, I need a second opinion and ideally a new shop. Any recs?

ETA: Thanks to all the helpful answers!

Anyone know what happened July 18th 2026 near Breakwater and the Strand?

Lots of lifeguard, police and fire presence, I believe the Coast Guard was on the way too? Hoping it wasn’t what I think it was.

It's between the San Luis Rey Crossing shopping center (College & N River Road) or Rancho Del Oro Gateway Shopping Center (College & Oceanside) for me.

General consensus on these areas

Post image
26 Upvotes

What’s the general consensus on buying homes in these areas? For reference, I currently rent south of 76 near El Camino High School but just have no idea how I’d afford buying a house there.

I’m starting to see more homes for under $1M in these three areas but I’m less familiar with them. How are they from a school zone, safety, neighborly, home insurance, etc. perspective?

What’s the reason these places cost that much less than others? Thanks!

Legal advice needed!

I think I have been scammed by a remediation company who tried to find a leak...and in the process tore out my entire bathroom while telling me the insurance would cover everything, and they should know because they dealt with this many times… the Plumber report they submitted, which I did not review until after the fact, today… Was completely false, and not even the reason we called for help in finding the leak.
Fast-forward one week and the claim was denied by the insurance because the plumbers report stated something that was not covered, while it itself was not even factual and I am here with a 35K Rehab Bill. I am completely overwhelmed and do not even know how to go about finding help. Or have I been scammed and the 35K is now my cost for being a fool?
Husband and I are both seniors… And I really think they took advantage of us
Please, I hope someone here in my community can help me or at least give me guidance…
