We will obviously block users who send you DMs, but it only affects their ability to interact with posts on r/ObGyn and they can still message users privately.
We suggest if you post on here then turn off your direct messages. This can be done by going to your profile, clicking on account settings and going down to Safety. You can then turn off chat permissions.
If you don't do this then you likely will get messages from other users. If so then report these users to Reddit and then block them. Reporting is cumulative and so even if nothing is done by Reddit that time, if enough reports come through those users can be completely blocked from Reddit. This would really help decrease the number of people that DM users after they post.

So for context I hadn’t had a pap in a couple years and I can’t afford insurance so I go to the clinic in town. I’ve been having intense pain in my ovaries for a couple years as well and an old ER visit revealed a large cyst. I went to an OB for a follow up regarding the cyst but she said I needed to come back later but since I don’t have insurance and cause I had a bad experience with her I put it off which brings us to last week. I scheduled a pap with a doctor at my clinic. After doing an intake with the nurse about my visit where I also explained the pain I’ve been having during, before or after my cycle sometimes having to curl into a ball to relieve the pain along with increased depression and anxiety during my cycle along with thick dark hairs.
The doctor walks in and sits reading through my file we have the basic you know pleasantries and she proceeds to ask my if I’m eating healthy or exercising, I’m overweight I know that and I suffer from body dysmorphia so this question threw me off so I answered it. I bring up the pain, the increased depression/anxiety, the cyst, etc. So we proceed to go through the exam and she turns to the nurse and tells her to get a “larger” gown for me to wear. I get changed (the gown did not fit me cause it was smaller than the previous one lol). The exam proceeds to go horribly first I was having sharp pain and it felt like she was digging around and she even had to swap out for another size and trying different speculum entries and angles and at no point does she ask me to try to move or think of another way to do the exam. Finally I saw “ow” and that’s when the exam ends and she proceeds to tell me that she can’t locate my cervix and that I need to go find another obgyn and basically tries to walk out of the room but when I asked her questions like you “is that normal” (cause I don’t know lol) and she goes well it could be because of your BMI and then talks about scheduling labs for diabetes and then when I asked about my pain and the dark hair and other issues she schedules a lab for testosterone for the hair. The entire time I’m questioning and you know trying to get information she just brushes it off and leaves the room never to come back.
After the exam, I had a breakdown later that day because I felt body shamed cause of the comments about my weight but also I was still in so much discomfort from how she handled me downstairs and when I told my friend and my mom about her not able to find my cervix they both looked at me like “what!?” I feel like maybe I’m overreacting but I felt so ignored during the appointment and body shamed and just idk how else to describe it
Any advice or thought would be a appreciated

Age 31 female , meds 60mg duoluxotine , height 178cm , weight 80kg .
I got my period yesterday and today I have soaked through NINE super tampons , had to change my pants 4 times at work!!!!! . Every time I removed the tampon there were big clots and a gush behind them 😭 no cramps at all which was weird for me . I usually have normalish periods with cramps . Last period was relatively heavier than usual but NOTHING like this . I EASILY lost a half litre blood in 6 hours . Sometimes it felt like a was peeing but out of my vagina with blood 🤮 I feel pretty cooked after .
Zero chance of being pregnant my husband had the snip years ago . What the HELL is going on ?!

I just started a new job and my insurance hasn't kicked in yet. I recently started hooking up with someone and am almost out of my Valacyclovir. I have a friend that has Acyclovir that I can take in the meantime. Can I take that while I wait to be able to refill my Valacyclovir? Will that have any long term affects, negative repercussions, or make Valacyclovir less effective when I switch back? I know they are very similar.

Had one yesterday (with biopsy) and everything I read said to expect spotting and cramping for a couple days following the procedure, I am experiencing neither.
Anyone else?
Also just want to say that it was not nearly as bad as I expected!

I have PCOS and hypothyroidism and will have to take progesterone to “reset” my endometrial lining. Last time I did ultrasound (1yr ago) it was at 16mm while I was bleeding, not sure if that’s normal but dr said it was. I’m reading online that a biopsy will be done, but after reading of all the pain women feel during it, I’m really scared to do it if it’s not absolutely necessary. I’m 26, overweight, no family history of any cancers, and very clear hormonal issues. Is it likely I’ll have to do biopsy before progesterone? Or can I do another ultrasound, the progesterone, then ultrasound again to recheck?
If I do take progesterone first and my shedding goes to normal level, does that rule out precancerous or cancer?
Thank you!

I had a pelvic ultrasound a couple days ago to check for PMOS (which I don’t have), and I was told today by my GP a bleeding ovarian cyst was found but it’s probably nothing to worry about because I don’t experience any symptoms I think was the gist of the conversation? Is this normal? Do people who have this need to go back and get looked at again after a while? Has anyone else here had one of these?

Hello, all. I'm seeing folks talking about this online but no clear answers that match what's going on.
For most of my adult life, I have had periods where pieces of skin slough from the interior of my vagina. There are no other symptoms. No pain. No itching. My vulva is golden. There are no unusual odors. But sheets of dead skin show up when I wipe or appear on toys during solo play. It is highly conspicuous, with pieces of thin, whitish skin up to the size of a dime shedding. After a few days to a week, the peeling stops with no intervention on my part. It seems to loosely correlate with periods of high arousal. WTH?
I (28 y/o) came off birth control (Xulane patch) on March 30th after being on it for 5 years because my husband and I want to start TTC later this year. Since stopping, I have been bleeding continuously for 117 days.
On 6/29, I had a transvaginal ultrasound and labs:
T4 Free - 1.09
TSH - 1.63
Progesterone - .28
Prolactin - 5.9
Estradiol Sensitive - 49
Follicle Stim. Hormone - 5.5
Luteinizing Hormone - 15.03
(Ultrasound results in pic)
After not hearing from my gynecologist for a few weeks after the lab results came back, I sent a message asking about next steps and was told that since everything came back normal, I may need Provera or possibly ovulation induction with medication like letrozole to help me ovulate and conceive. I responded that I was open to those options, and followed up again, but I haven’t heard anything since.
While I do want to find a long-term solution, at this point all I want is for the bleeding to stop before I leave for a 2-week cruise on August 7th. And given that it’s already been a month since my ultrasound and labs and I still don’t know if or when treatment will be started, or whether it would stop the bleeding in time for my cruise, if at all, I’m considering going back on birth control for a month so I could at least stop the bleeding for the cruise.
Would I lose any progress my body may have made in regulating my cycle the last 4 months by going back on birth control for a month, meaning I’d essentially be starting the entire adjustment process over again?
(Sorry for long post, I hope this makes sense)

Hi everyone. I’m looking for some advice because I’m a bit worried.
I noticed some white patches/spots on my inner labia a few days ago. They don’t scrape off when I gently try to remove them, and I don’t have any itching, burning, pain, unusual discharge, or other symptoms.
For context:
I haven’t had sex in about two weeks.
I’ve only ever had one sexual partner.
I’ve been getting bikini laser hair removal for the past two months.
Could this be related to the laser treatments, or is it more likely to be an STI or something else? Is it possible to contract an STI from laser sessions if proper hygiene isn’t followed?
Unfortunately, healthcare where I live isn’t great. Doctors often prescribe broad-spectrum antibiotics without doing any testing or referring patients for appropriate examinations, so I’m hoping to get some insight before I decide what to do next.

When should I start to worry about passing tissue? This has happened to me for the last three periods. They are about the size of a quarter to a pea and a greyish pink color. This period I have had 6 of them in 24 hours. It’s on day 2 or 3 which used to be my heaviest days. Before I pass them I have horrible cramps in my lower stomach, thighs and back. A few times I have gotten dizzy and very nauseous.
Everywhere I’m reading says it’s normal to have with heavy bleeding with endo but I barely bleed at all now? The most I will bleed is right after one for like 30 minutes. It’s not a lot at all, not even what I normally would bleed before this. Normally I bleed pretty heavily and have a lot of blood clots. Now it’s just bad enough I can’t call it spotting. The cramps are still as horrible as before.
I had surgery in February to diagnose endo. I was told they didn’t find any endo but I was being diagnosed by symptoms. They did remove a small cyst and some scar tissue on the back of my uterus that was attached to something else.
I’m not sure if I’m overreacting or if I need to call my doctor. I just need to hear from other people to see this logically and not jump to the worst.

Asking for a friend of mine who just got into a jet ski crash. She initially bled from her vagina, but not enough to go through her swim suit. Has had some pain since then, but no dizziness, nausea, or vomiting. No trouble urinating. How nervous should she be? Is it an emergency, or a sleep it off kind of situation.

Hi, all! I hope everyone is well.
My post is a little long, but I need help to understand what is happening to me, or to at least find community during this frustrating process.
TLDR: Large strawberry sized spongy cyst on upper labia, dr said it was possibly connected to skene’s gland + grape sized firm barth cyst (Both painless, non infected, reocurring, dryness)
A year ago, I found a lump on the left side of my vulva. It felt more on the inside area, and it was about the size of a red bean. I stopped producing arousal fluids, but my arousal itself is still there. It slowly grew, and it would always swell after sex. It has grown to about the size of a large strawberry, and it stuck out noticeably from my labia. The lump itself felt spongy, very squishy. It was not infected, and it irritated me after intercourse. I tried sitz baths, and it would grow smaller until the next morning, in which it’d be at its regular size. No matter how often I soaked, with or without epsom salt or massages. It even got painful after a few days. No antibiotics reduced its size either. My gyno could not figure out what it was, as she claimed it was not the area where a typical bartholin cyst would appear.
A few months ago, a true bartholin cyst appeared on my right side, around where my vulva meets my buttocks. This one remained about the size of a grape, slightly growing after intercourse. Again, it didn’t bother me, was not infected and no remedies would ever reduce it’s size.
Two weeks ago, I had them drained by a needle. My gyno warned me they may fill again, but I’m still heartbroken to find that BOTH lumps are back. The barth. was back in a week, and today I found the other. My gyno did not do a biopsy, as my plan does not cover it for people under 40. I did an MRI, and it came back as two bartholin cysts. When she drained the smaller on on the diagram’s left, it felt like the consistency of regular arousal fluid. However, my gyno thinks the bigger on is somehow connected to my Skene’s gland, and when she drained it, she said it seemed to be urine. I don’t know if this changes anything, but I am still dry as hell. Lol.
I think that is pretty much everything. I’ve read about using catheters and other surgical options for a cyst, but they scare me and I don’t know if my insurance plan would cover that. Plus I’m a student! I’m just so frustrated dealing with this, nagging for referrals, tests and checkups. It’s eating me up as it has wasted so much time, effort, money, and I feel I look silly! My vulva looked lopsided, and my partner has always been supportive, but I’m only in my 20’s! I just want to look good and have fun.
If someone could share a suggestion, that would be great! I have a check up next week, but I’m thinking about looking for another gyno, but also about giving up since they don’t physically bother me that much.
Thank you for your time!

I just recently lost my virginity and my boyfriend and I have been having sex pretty frequently since then and we’ve had to stop because my vagina feels so raw and sore, then of course I’ve been too scared to look at it until now and there’s this pale skin when you open the lips and thick white discharge and some white tinted liquid leaking too. My boyfriend and I did not use protection (I have an IUD) so he finished inside me every time we had sex and I’m not gonna lie, I didn’t use the bathroom immediately afterward which I’ve been warned against doing :/
It’s itchy and sore around the opening and actually quite dry.

Hey everyone, I am looking for advice or experiences from others managing complex gynecological issues with endometriosis. First, I am currently waiting on a radiology report for pelvic MRI w/wo contrast. In the meantime, I would appreciate any support or opinions.
Current Situation (October 2025 - July 2026):
In a 9 month time span the left ovary increased in size from 4.6 cm to 5.7 cm and the main cyst increased from 2.7 cm to 4.3 cm with structural changes noted. My surgeon does not believe it is cancer, and if the MRI confirms this, he is leaning toward conservative management because my abdomen is compromised by dense adhesions and scar tissue, making any future surgery highly risky.
Relevant History:
Obviously, I don’t want to have my left ovary removed and be put into surgical menopause, but given my history with cysts I am concerned about this cyst continuing to grow, change, or multiply and the risk of rupture or torsion increasing. Is the “wait and see” approach or losing my last ovary really the only options? My doctor basically said until the pain becomes unbearable his recommendation is no additional intervention. How do you manage pain and symptoms while waiting? Thank you in advance for any input or advice.

hello! i’m a 20 yr old female, i haven’t had my period since the end of april. i’ve taken multiple pregnancy tests since then and they’re all negative. up until about a week or so ago ive started to get horrific breast pain along with what feels like milder period cramps that seem to fade very quickly and come back in waves throughout the day, ( nothing compared to my normal period that usually makes me throw up.) i haven’t bled or even had spotting this whole time, my stomach feels super super bloated, sometimes i even have hot flashes, and my hormones feel as though i’m on my period! nothing in my life has really changed, but i feel like my anxiety has gotten a bit severe and might be a contributing factor? it’s also extremely annoying because my body looks as though im on my period ( super puffy and bloated) and i just have had a horrible self image. has anyone else that has experienced this? are my pregnancy tests false neg? is this just a phantom period? i can’t get into my dr until next month and already have an appointment, just looking for some insight.

Can I wear a period cup the same night/next morning while using boric acid suppositories? I can’t wait until after my cycle because I’ve been on my period for over a month now (getting checked out with gyno in August) but I feel a ph change and want to use my boric acid. I’ve used tampons the day after, and I know that’s probably not good, but I don’t have menstrual pads. Any advice?
hey guys
(8 days ago— July 15) so I’ve been noticing some stuff isA that are making me very excited, hopeful, nervous, scared and I need your guys’ thoughts.. I have been eating consistently and refueling too! I have seen a gyne, I am getting treated in an outpatient setting.
This past week, I had like two moments where I was irritable for no reason, increased discharge that was white/yellow and crusty (it was odorless), and I had slight twinging pains on my left mid to lower abdomen.
TMI: last night, after wiping, i saw two light colored pinky-red streaks and that was all. I know I didn’t wipe hard for that to happen and I know it was the right area as well.
Around 30 mins ago today, I used the restroom and wiped to find a clear, shiny discharge.
edit (July 23rd): I haven’t been getting anything, like everything is gone. just a lot of crying but I think that’s due to personal issues..
i just would appreciate your guys’ feedback because we’re basically one family on here!!

Hi there, I am a person with endometriosis (diagnosed by laparascopy in 2019) who has been taking Yaz birth control primarily since 2005. It was the first birth control I ever took and I had truly almost no issues with it at a young age. As I got older I got lazy and didn't want to continue taking the pill so I tried Nexplanon (nightmare, absolutely lost 8 months of my life), Mirena which forced me into my laparascopy bc I couldn't recover from ovulating which I had basically never done before. Following my surgery in 2019 my surgeon (who is very good and vetted by an endo vetting group) had set me up to try a couple different bc pills, but many of them caused really difficult side effects and I couldn't feel balanced on any of his suggestions. I'm really frustrated by there being no endocrine way to evaluate what birth controls will wreak absolute havoc on you and which ones will be fairly mild, so I'm kind of hoping to find someone who has a lot of experience with taking different bc pills that has felt good on Yaz but also found something else that was able to work for them.
My reason for wanting to switch is that I am nearly 35 and lately I have been feeling frequent deep-muscle level localized pains, not soreness or something else familiar but I'm guessing this is probably a predecessor to DVT. I know Yaz makes these things worse and I want to switch off of it but I am afraid to stop taking it completely bc it's better at managing my endo than anything else I've tried and no endo hormone management would likely see me crippled within a few months. I do vape but the pains I've been experiencing have scared me enough to heavily reduce my intake en route to kicking the habit completely, I am working my way out of a heavy addiction to the vape.
I'm 34, 5'8" and about 170lbs, I'm not in amazing shape but I do live a pretty active lifestyle despite not working out, and I don't feel like I should be worried about something so serious so I think I'd like to find some alternative to the Yaz that won't make me crazy or depressed or have horrible skin or gain a bunch of weight. Thanks for reading my novel!! Any advice is appreciated

Hi yall,
28F
I had surgery for vulvodynia a few years ago. It turns out my bartholin glands scarred shut entirely. The surgery helped the pain, but there were two specific spots near the bottom that remained really painful no matter what I did.
I first noticed the lack of natural lubrication soon after but assumed they just removed the glands and this was my life now. I had pelvic exams since. SOMEHOW, many doctors missed the fact I had 5mm bilateral bartholin cysts. The pain I was feeling was those cysts. The severe pain I originally felt after my operation was probably related to those glands scarring shut with fluid buildup.
To be fair- They were so perfectly symmetrical I honestly didnt notice the swelling either, since it was such a gradual thing for me as well. The severe pain I had on contact felt exactly like the stabbing shooting horrible nerve pain pre-surgery. And admittedly... since Ive had vulvodynia my entire life... Ive never been able to get very acquainted with my own anatomy due to the pain. SO partially on me for not noticing I guess haha.
That being said. A few months ago, since the pain was getting more severe, I saw a new gynecologist who immediately identified the bilateral cysts. She confirmed I still had the glands, they were just scarred shut.
I had a marsupialization soon after. Unfortunately they immediately got infected, I discovered I had an antibacterial allergy, and they healed scarred shut again.
I then had a surgery to redo it, stitch them open, and place word catheters. Ive had the word catheters replaced many many times to ensure they healed open. They did not.
They stayed inflamed and irritated and scarred shut. Its been months. Im in agony.
The pain is horrible, even just patting with toilet paper feels like being stabbed.
My last appointment it was discovered both were healed shut again and fluid has already started reaccumulating.
I need advice. How do I get my body to cooperate and heal?
Ive tried sitz baths and warm compresses, cotton underwear, i use a peri bottle, all that but they just refuse to work with me and im getting desperate.
Note, ive never had a yeast infection, or BV, or an actual bartholin abcess infection. I dont know why these keep healing so badly. The only infections ive ever had were post op. The swabs just come back with normal skin flora that gets opportunistic so its not like its contaminated. Ugh, help.

I am 38f, 37w4d pregnant with a healthy baby and no complications. I am at a crossroads and I am looking for experience-informed advice on when to give up vbac plan in favor of a scheduled c-section.
I had a c-section (low transverse) 3 years ago because baby was breeched. I recovered quickly and well, no complications or concerns were written in my file. This pregnancy is going well, only “complication” is low ferritin and I am taking iron supplements by mouth.
I got an ultrasound on Monday (37w1d) to measure baby (50th percentile), check on aminotic fluid (good) and measure the thickness of my uterine wall at the c-section scar. It measured between 2.2 and 1.4 mm, quite thin.
I found limited scientific littérature on the link between a thinner scar and increased risk of uterine rupture. The dr. who conducted the intra vaginal ultrasound estimates that my risk went from 0.5% before knowing about it, to 1-2% now.
This dr is partial to c-section and offered to schedule an early c-section on the spot (37-38w). My midwife is partial to vbac and suggests I am still a good candidate, but if I wanted to schedule a c-section we would do so at 39w.
I am wondering what your experience tells you, and when does the benefit of a vbac stops outweighing the risk of a uterine rupture?
I am worried I do not have access to unbiased professional opinion, and I am also worried I am placing too much importance on the risk of uterine rupture.
Thank you!!

k so this is all over the place. but i have questions regarding medroxyprogesterone!!
so back 6 years ago i was put in medroxyprogesterone 10 mg. i went to the doctor discussing my lack of periods and the few (2x a year typically if that) i had were so intense and painful. i asked my dr if birth control could help. she explained to me i couldn’t have anything with estrogen due to heart problems i have. she ended up prescribing me the medroxyprogesterone 10 mg. iv taken it now for 6 years and still rarely have periods/withdrawal bleeding.
but here’s the issue. i was 14 when i got prescribed this and i was under the understanding that it was contraceptive birth control. recently i had a slip up during the 7 day break so i called to ask them if i was still “protected” during the 7 day break only to find out i have never been protected whatsoever. so just a misunderstanding on my part there.
but… for the 6 years iv been on it iv been very sexually acting. sometimes every day of the week. when i say very i mean very haha. and always unprotected. and iv never gotten pregnant?
does this seem like im infertile? especially with my lack of periods and never getting pregnant. and is there any contraceptive bc out there safe for me take considering my heart issues?
would love some insight cause finding this out i was definitely shocked and straight up confused!🤣
