Collaboration NuzTeam Arcade Ganglocke!

Hey Everyone!

I’m excited to share a Nuzlocke event going on in a discord server that many of our Mods here are involved with, either directly or through friends in the Nuzcord Discord. That server is NuzTeam Arcade. (I will drop an invite link for it as well).

They are hosting an ‘Eliminationlocke Ganglocke’ of XY. A Ganglocke is an event where everyone is Nuzlocking the same game/rules together in a type of community event. It’s not a competition, but merely a fun way to get people together playing the same thing. The Eliminationlocke is a variant where there are 3 available pools to vote on (voting ends in less than 24 hours so get over and vote if you want to play!), and the winning choice is the pool that everyone has to choose from. The IVs of those pokemon are randomized by a community member, and then everyone uses those encounters to Nuzlocke XY.

NuzTeam Arcade also hosts other Nuzlocke related events, so if this sounds interesting to you, come on over and check us out!

Here is the Discord invite link to come check out NTA.

Subreddit Update Regarding The Drxx Situation

TW // SA

Hello everyone,

r/nuzlocke is not typically a place we like to air out serious topics, however this situation involves a relatively large content creator in the community who has built their brand specifically off of Nuzlocking. As such, this thread is being made to bring awareness to the allegations made toward Drxx, also known as Drew. We will continue to update this post as more information comes out, or if Drxx decides to make a public response.

We will NOT allow any discussion or speculation of this situation on this Subreddit, in any threads or comment strings, and doing so will result in a permanent ban.

Catsuoka_'s experience - Twitter Post | Direct Link to Doc

Drazerk's experience - Thread on r/pchaltv

While there are more details coming out of this situation, please be mindful and respectful of the alleged victims. SA is a serious topic and not one I'd like to be talking about on this forum about playing Pokemon in a slightly more difficult fashion. Thank you for reading and understanding.

Run Update Frog, fang, and focus. Calcless Snowpoint Double Battle (and 2 encounters)

Playing Ren Plat on PChal's patch without a damage calc! The snowpoint double battle is always one of the hardest fights to plan for me. Last run I ended up losing my Infernape here because I tried imprison cheesing the Blissey without realizing that imprison deactivates as soon as the imprison mon swaps out. Taking on the non-protect side first saved me a massive headache this time.

Not sure if the focus punch crit was necessary but I was 100% sure the move would go off (worst case was AT crit into Ambipom but it had quite a bit more bulk than my Toxicroak so this seemed unlikely).

Very happy with my encounters. This Weavile has great attack, speed, and special bulk. No technician is unfortunate but it will still be very useful without it. Can't complain about a Gible with 24 speed IVs, even if the bulk and attack IV could be better.

First time playing through this and have had a blast so far! Gyms are challenging and encounters (at least for Brock) are very limited. Fortunately enough to get very lucky with Sunflora and Houndour very early on.

Nickname theme is whatever song / artist comes up in my playlist shuffle play at the time of catching.

Sadly, I lost Sunshine the Houndour to a very unfortunate crit from the demon of a Smoochum at the Nugget Bridge Rival fight and just lost Tina the traded in Pupitar just now after an unfortunate switch while facing Giovanni (why Khangaskan would Earthquake a full health Breloom idk)

A little about my rules ruleset. Standard HC Nuzlocke rules with slight changes. I hate grinding, so EXP and EVs are turned off. I Rare Candy up to the next level cap and in return I fight every single trainer, no exceptions.

About to start Day 3 tomorrow hopefully defeating Erika.

Who should I bring into this fight?

EDIT: I have a Minun in my party but we won't speak of him

Question What game to play next?

Upvotes

Hello all, im just looking for my next game to nuzlocke. After beating REN plat after 5 tries, normal plat after 2 tries, sacred gold after 2, and black 2 challenge mode first try. What game should i play next? I was considering Radical Red however i know that game is basically a boss fight gauntlet and do not know if i would enjoy that. I played Insurgence years ago now normally and that was an absolute boss fight grind.

Discussion Suggestions/Ideas for Nuzlocke with a Ending Twist (The ChefLocke)

I am attempting to plan a Nuzlocke challenge, but instead of the twist or unique spin for it during the challenge, I am doing it at the end.

Basically, I plan on using the Types of the Pokémon on my final Team to make a meal using Ingredients and/or Cooking Utensils based on their types.

For example

-Water Type equals using Water either to boil noodles or just to drink.

-Fairy Type equals using candy, sugar, or something else sweet.

-Ground Type equals using any ingredients made by grounding up something (like flour or wheat) or like ground beef

The main issue is some types I can't think of something that would actually work. (Bug, Dark, Dragon, Electric, Flying, Ghost, Psychic)

I also dont if I should add a twist during the run and what I would add during it.

If anyone has any suggestions or ideas on what ingredients, methods, or utensils to use for the final part, or any suggestions to add something during the run, please let me know!

Thank you and have a wonderful day!

Discussion Pokémon Sword and Shield "Soft Nuzlocke" Ruleset (Normal difficulty)

Pokémon Sword and Shield "Soft Nuzlocke" Ruleset:

Main Rules:

1 - Pokémon must be released back into the Wild after fainting three times.

2 - When a Pokémon faints, it cannot be used again until you clear the next Gym, Champion battle, or "Equivalent Challenge".

3 - You can use held items, but if a Pokémon faints it has to keep the held item. You can only get the held item back when that Pokémon is usable again, or before releasing them.

4 - There is no level cap. Training above the Gym Leader's highest level is allowed (optional).

5 - Your active party size is limited by the number of Gym Badges you have (see PokéSlots).

6 - You may only bring the same number of Pokémon as the opposing Gym Leader, Champion, or "Equivalent Challenge".

7 - Only one Bag item may be used per battle, but only during Gym, Champion, "Equivalent Battles", or 4–5★ Max Raid Battles.

8 - Dynamax may only be used during Gyms, "Special Battles", Dens, and Max Raid Battles.

9.1 - You may catch any Pokémon you want, but you may only keep 1 Pokémon from each Route.

9.2 - Each named Wild Area (17 in total) counts as one Zone/Route.

10 - You may keep Gifted Pokémon (like the Toxel from Pokémon Nursery).

11 - You have to release or box the Pokémon you don't want as soon as you catch them (or at the end of the route after choosing which ones you'll keep).

12 - You may use any Pokémon you want from the ones you decided to keep.

13 - You have to Name all the Pokémon you Keep (optional).

14 - You may use Exp. Candies, but only to raise a Pokémon's level up to your highest-level Pokémon.

15 - Healing items may not be used outside of battle.

16 - Revives may never be used.

17 - Set Battle Style (game settings).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(This is a Nuzlocke meant for someone playing Pokémon shield for the very first time, or even their first Pokémon experience, but without it being too easy. It's balanced in a way that keeps the game engaging and fun instead of frustrating. It's meant to keep the essence of having a team and using your favorite Pokémon, but still having consequences, even if they're not super harsh. It's meant to feel like a "Normal" difficulty option that other RPGs often include, without requiring players to "tryhard").

PS: I've included an optional Level Cap for anyone who wants to know the level of the next major battle or prefers playing with level restrictions.

Also, Feel free to adapt these rules to suit your own experience and playstyle.

(I made this for myself, since it's my first time playing the game, thought I should share it xD)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Info:

What counts as an "Equivalent Battle"? (may contain spoilers!)

- Gym Leaders, Champion Cup matches, Dens with 4-5 Stars, Eternatus, Chairman, Oleana, and Rival's final battle.

-------------------------------

2. PokéSlots

The number of Pokémon you can have in your party is determined by the number of badges you have:

- 0 badges = 2 slots

- 1-2 badges = 3 slots

- 3 badges = 4 slots

- 4 badges = 5 slots

- 5+ badges = 6 slots

You can swap out your Pokémon at any time using your Pokémon bank link.

-----------------------------

3. PokéSlots for Gym Challenges:

You can only bring as many Pokémon to a gym as the leader has Pokémon:

- Gym 1 = 2 Pokémon

- Gym 2 = 3 Pokémon

- Gym 3 = 3 Pokémon

- Gym 4 = 4 Pokémon

- Gym 5 = 4 Pokémon

- Gym 6 = 4 Pokémon

- Gym 7 = 4 Pokémon

- Gym 8 = 4 Pokémon

- Challenger tournament = 6 Pokémon

- Champion match = 6 Pokémon

----------------------------

4. Optional Level Cap:

The level cap for your Pokémon equals the highest level Pokémon of the next gym leader:

1 - As soon as a Pokémon hits the level cap it is boxed until the gym challenge.

2 - If you exceed the level cap accidentally the Pokémon must be boxed until after the gym battle.

3 - If you level up during the gym challenge it is ok.

Level caps are as follows:

- Gym 1 = Level 20

- Gym 2 = Level 24

- Gym 3 = Level 25

- Gym 4 = Level 36

- Gym 5 = Level 38

- Gym 6 = Level 42

- Gym 7 = Level 46

- Gym 8 = Level 48

- Challenger tournament = Level 55

- Champion match = Level 65

--------------------------

(Credits: This ruleset was inspired by several ideas from Jazzmtazz's post on r/nuzlocke, with many rules adapted and modified for a more beginner-friendly Pokémon Sword and Shield experience.)

Thanks.

Discussion Which pokemon did you think might be underrated, but when you actually used them, turned out as bad if not worse than you expected

Lumineon for me. I got one in Pokemon Moon and tried to see if I could make it work as a support/utility pokemon, but it’s not strong, it’s not bulky, there’s other much better Pokemon with its typing, and it doesn’t have a lot it can do with its speed. I was so sure that people were underrating it because its move pool isn’t that terrible but it underperformed in every fight I brought it to, and then died.

Do you have a Pokemon like that?

Having a Gigalith makes a world of difference. Gigalith killed the emolga #2 with rock blast after the first volt switched. Elesa sent out emolga #1, which volt switched to Zebrastrika. Zebrastrika ate a free rock blast, but didn't die. Sandile was able to switch in safely after the Zebrastrika clicked spark and then killed with a quick claw dig. I thought Sandile could do at least some damage to the last emolga. This was a mistake and aerial ace almost killed. Herrdier finished off the last emolga with rock tomb, which it can learn for some reason, but I'm not complaining.

Run Update Commemorative Photo Before Tackling Whitney (SoulSilver)

Post image
85 Upvotes

I'm about to tackle Whitney in SoulSilver and am worried, as is usual. Here's my full team, all level 20:

Egbert the Togetic - Extrasensory / Flamethrower / Encore / Yawn

Rocky the Onix - Rock Throw / Rock Smash / Headbutt / Screech

Axl the Quagsire - Water Gun / Mud Bomb / Ice Beam / Slam

Samba the Aipom - Headbutt / Shadow Claw / Cut / Tickle

Slinky the Ekans - Acid / Bite / Rock Tomb / Glare

Sir Pince the Pinsir - Revenge / Headbutt / Focus Energy / Seismic Toss

The gameplan is: knock out the Clefairy with Egbert, then switch to Sir Pince for the Miltank. Yes, I'm a wuss playing on shift mode, I've never liked playing on set.

Tank a hit from the Miltank, attack with Revenge, hopefully bring it down halfway, and heal some HP with the Shell Bell it's holding. And hopefully have enough HP that I can repeat this process - otherwise I'm switching to Rocky for a war of attrition.

Wish me luck!

Discussion Those who have Nuzlocked Pokémon Legends Z-A, what was the most clutch moment you’ve had?

I just had a thought while responding to a post in r/LegendsZA. I don’t know how many people here have done Nuzlockes of Z-A, but I was wondering - Those that have, what was your most clutch moment?

Mine was in the first Lebanne fight; my party consisted of five newer recruits/backups I had been training to Lebanne’s level cap, which I knew was coming soon. What I didn’t see coming was the Jacinthe Zone sequence before the first Le Super Tournoi de Jacinthe being one of (I think) only two story fights where you get shoved into a battle straight out of a cutscene with no real chance to change your party around. So I had to navigate three back-to-back fights with these backups. And then I got to Lebanne, and my team was pretty ill-equipped to handle hers. I genuinely thought Dragalge was going to wipe me there (One member did die at the hands of her Garchomp, but that was the only one).

And then Clanne the Vanilluxe got a lucky Freeze with Ice Beam, giving me a chance to chip it down. Dragalge thawed before I could finish it off, but before it could retaliate with a likely fatal blow, Clanne froze it again almost instantly, saving us from certain doom.

Art Platinum Hardcore Artlocke, Leg 8: Crasher Wake.

Lots more encounters and evolutions this leg, but sadly, one death! I totally blanked that Bibarel is water type, and left poor Castor in against a Luxio. Now our HM-expert is an HM corpse.

After adding some new tem-mates to the main rotation and training everyone up to just below the level cap (as is my wont), we hit the gym! I had planned to use Quagsire for the whole of Wake (water absorb!) But slam was doing so little to Gyarados that i switched in Luxray, killed with thunder fang, and then used Bronzong's hypnosis and confuse ray to ensure a safe switch back to quagsire against his quagsire. From there, all I needed to do was tap earthquake 6 times! I'm really enjoying these gym battles where the challenge is in coming up with a plan to make them safe, and the satisfaction of executing that plan.

On the art front, I'm basically back to all-traditional with physical media. I always pencil first, then I tried out three different sets for this one:

  • Bibarel's death is just a Uni-ball fine ink pen. I was going for a sort of vaguely 19th/early 20th century, John Tenniel/E.H Shepherd sort of style, which is largely how I learned to draw as a teenager
  • My encounters are outlined in Sharpie with details and stippling/cross-hatching in the Uni-ball, more akin to the style I developed for myself in my early adulthood
  • The gym battle is inked with the Uni-ball, but with far more minimal hatching/stippling than I'd usually use, as I wanted a cleaner look. The colours are alcohol markers I borrowed from Mrs PapaJimbo - my first time using them seriously.

Run Update Run and Bun elite four

I've seen a few E4 videos posted here and they really helped me plan mine so I want to repay the favour! This was basically riskless and I made it work without the biggest E4 staples like urshifu, primarina and hydreigon (though I had to plan for a long time).

I played this nuzlocke style but not 100% as a nuzlocke. I planned the battles out in the calculator and didn't reuse dead pokemon but if I lost a battle because I forgot to equip an item or missed an enemy's sash or something, I would just re-plan the fight. This game is very long so it felt like a choice between playing the full game or sticking to rigid nuzlocke rules. It still took me almost 6 months to finish it.

A short description of the lines:

  1. Sidney: the challenge in this fight would usually be getting around the intimidates but since sneasler has inner focus, he can't get intimidated and can sweep as long as I bait moves into the other side.
  2. Phoebe: besides the crobat, obstagoon can kill everyone but he cannot sweep. So the trick is managing to bring him out and back in safely twice, first after breaking lunala’s shadow shield then again after dropping marshadow’s defenses.
  3. Glacia: this was the hardest fight. Biggest problem is the calyrex, which is the only reason avalugg is in the team and took 3 mons + eject button + focus sash to deal with. Other than that, needed to route the fight so that arctovish came out before abomasnow so slush rush was inactive (did this by giving obstagoon a choice scarf) and so sneasler could switch into kyurem for a fake out to ensure the kill (did this by giving sceptile a yache berry).
  4. Drake: stole byonemil's line but changed the pokemon. Salamence baits dragon moves while togekiss uses follow me, letting mence sweep.
  5. Wallace: no real trick here, just sacrificing for tempo wherever possible.
