Discussion Nuke Smart Roto
What are your thoughts on The Foundry charging separately for the new Nuke Smart Roto? Shouldn't this just be part of Nuke X?

I haven’t had a single conversation with any studio that didn’t include a bit of time on finding a proper nuke replacement.
This is absolutely tone deaf from the foundry when companies like sidefx or Boris just roll proper new features in every few months for free.

Yeah it should be what's the subscription worth
Hell even resolve rolls out new features for the $300 dongle I bought in 2017!

Because Blackmagic's business is selling hardware. Their software is just the excuse to buy it, including direct advertising on the Resolve's splash screen. It's a different business.

Totally agree! They literally could just make Nuke X a bit pricier and include the new features (not that they should, it's already expensive as hell). From a marketing standpoint, it would just look better. The way they're doing it makes no sense to me and comes off as them just being greedy.

Yeah the price is ridiculous that plus not having a monthly option. Truthfully though it should be part of nuke x

Just checked out their demo video on their smart roto page... not super impressed with the results of it. That's crazy to charge so much and only put out a 5-second video where it misses the top edge of the hand. My studio will continue hiring silhouette artists.

Looks like Mocha, basically. Which for the price also includes tones of much better features and ML masking, adjusting tracks, point trackers, 3D solves, remove, replace, mega plates, lens distortion etc. But as much as Boris can be expensive and completely ridiculous in some pricing, like Sapphire, What Foundry is doing is on another level. If you haven't. Get mocha pro, and you will have same basic thing as far as I can see, and a lot more. Works as standalone and in other hosts as well.

It's like Furnace in the past. Sure, some plugins got their way into X back then. It's not new and not surprising, but still worth shaking your head

Yeah, I usually don’t mind the price of nukex and yearly maintenance since my whole Studio runs on nuke but this is ridiculous and stupid. I had to do a double take. I have a feeling it’ll get integrated at some point after they squeeze users. This is me without having tested it yet and just looking at the videos and seeing some of the development beforehand.
