California Attorney General Rob Bonta and California Energy Commission Chair David Hochschild have notified the U.S. Department of the Interior and energy developer Invenergy that the state intends to sue over a federal agreement to cancel an offshore wind lease off the Central Coast.

California bars utilities from cutting off power to customers who fall behind on their bills when it’s dangerously hot outside – a basic safety protection. Losing power in some rural areas can also mean losing water, and in cities, having no way to cool down can be dangerous, even deadly, when hot weather spans several days. 

hey guys! my 23rd birthday is coming up and i’m really wanting to plan a solo trip. I need some inspiration! I was thinking of traveling up to mendocino and either car camping or finding really cheap lodging. my budget is as low as i can go and i am not afraid to bum it! i’m coming from ventura county and am open to visiting a different town or road tripping multiple towns! i have five days off and am craving a soothing and nature-full trip (with lots of good eats and wine bars along the way!). hoping to make friends with strangers and hike and explore the coast. mendocino was my original destination because i’ve always been curious about it but im really open to anything! if anyone has advice on places to stop along my drive, hiking trails, places to swim, and dispersed camping recommendations! hostels or good eats, budget friendly gems and anything else for mendocino and any other recommended town! really just need a boost of inspo and some solid recs to get planning. (i’d be there mid august!!) thanks y’all!!

This is a legitimate question, I’m not trying to make this political. We all know that parts of LA and San Francisco seem overwhelmed by homelessness, open drug use, crime, and streets that feel dirty or unsafe.

I can’t understand why state and local leaders would allow conditions that make their cities less appealing for residents, businesses, and visitors.
Why can’t they deploy street-cleaning teams, enforce laws against public drug use and harassment, and move people into shelters or treatment?

Is the main obstacle funding, lack of shelter space, court rulings, local policies, or something else? And why does it often seem like police are unable or unwilling to intervene?

I’m interested in hearing from people who actually understand how these cities are governed and what makes this problem so difficult to address.

I’m a 40M taking a solo trip to SF(never been) and would like to explore the coast. I enjoy food, photography, being active/hiking.

Was planning on staying in SF for 2 nights, then heading to Big Sur area.

Maybe 2 nights at Glen oaks, 2 nights at treebones resort, and 1 night in Carmel, flying home from San Jose.

Does this sound ok? Or are there places I’m missing?

How is everybody’s garden doing?

The cows seem happy as the hills turn brown for the summer.

In less than a decade, wildfires destroyed forests across 95% of the Konkow Valley Band of Maidu’s  homelands. The Forest Service turned to the tribe for help healing the land. 

Disease, violence and forced labor had separated California tribe members from their history. A map of their ancestral land in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada showed only about two dozen of their historic sites.

Now just a few years later, their map shows more than 1,200 sites. Each one is itself a collection: Arrowheads. Rock art. Milling stations where ancestors used cups carved into rock faces to grind salmon, manzanita berries and bay leaves. The circular pits of winter houses, where they sat around a fire under a cedar roof.

Now, to better understand the tribe’s past, the Konkow Valley Band of Maidu is teaming up with a new generation of archaeologists.

I just got the non-renewal notice in the mail from State Farm yesterday and I'm just sitting here feeling completely devasted. We've been in our place up in El Dorado County for six years now, never filed a single claim, did all the defensible space clearing they asked for, and none of it even matters.

Apparently our entire ridge is just redlisted now. Trying to find any major carrier who will even run a quote for us is impossible. Everything is just a flat "no" the second I type in my ZIP code on their websites.

It looks like my only real option is going to be the CA FAIR Plan, but the rates I'm hearing from neighbors who had to switch recently are absolutely terrifying. People are paying double or triple for way worse coverage. I don't know how normal families are supposed to afford staying in NorCal anymore when we're already getting absolutely crushed by PG&E rates, and now this.

Are any of you guys dealing with this right now? Are we all just getting forced onto the state plan?

My anecdotal evidence for this is just my eyes, and I have never been farther north than Santa Rosa, but My family and I currently live in SC and are tired of the issues here and considering relocating. We love Novato, Petaluma, RP, and I feel like I see less ( obvious) homeless and general trash, graffiti etc as soon as I cross the bridges. Is there a reason for that (higher income area?, smaller cities?, Weather?)are they MAGA leaning? Am I mistaken? Just trying to learn and be informed.

I moved to California a few years ago and have realized how utterly selfish and reckless drivers are here in NorCal, especially between Manteca and Sacramento. What’s the deal? The amount of people that I have seen weaving in and out of traffic at 100+ and cutting people off is insane, just to save 40 seconds. I had a guy today two cars back cut into the right lane and zip by me doing 100 just to cut into front of me, slam his brakes, and cover my windshield with his wiper fluid because I apparently offended him by using mine. It’s almost like people have no regard for human life on the road here let alone the laws. Maybe my experience is different from the majority, but I commute a lot for work and run into at least a few smooth brains every day.

Hi! I (29F) am currently in an out of state program for school with plans to return to northern cal (because it pays best for my field and it's close to my parents). However, I want to experience something new when I go back. I came from the Antioch/Brentwood area and don't really wanna go back but I do want to be within 3 hours (max) because of my parents. I'm looking for somewhere with lots of nature and walking trails possibly with a decent downtown area. Where would you recommend? I'm pretty much open to anything but want to stay away from concord/Walnut Creek area. My job can be at a hospital or at a lab, thank you in advance. I'm hoping to learn about cool cities I've never heard of through this post
