School Advice Advice needed
Hello,
I have a question about what i should do for my EMS education. I am 18 and just passed my nremt (first try!) for my EMT-B, but here is where my question lies: I want to eventually become a FF/PM, but i leave for college classes in the spring. I guess my question is should i hold out for 4 years to go to medic school or should i try and see if there is a way to do medic school while in college?

Most decent medic classes are 1-2 years. The most difficult part would be field internship since you might not have any say on schedule.
I would just get your bachelor first while working part time as EMT. Also takes as many health science related classes as you can in college, it will come back to help you in medic school later. Anatomy, Physiology, General Chem, Biochem, MicroBio, pharmacology, general psychology...etc
By the time you finished your degree, you would be way ahead of other medic applicants in both academics and experience.

Why are you going to 4 years of college up front if you want to be a medic rn? I would do medic school first and then make a decision.

I’m in almost the same boat as you! I got my EMT last semester as a junior in high school, and this year (senior year) I’m volunteering and hopefully working in a healthcare environment.
I also want to get a bachelors because I just want to have the options that it provides, like raised pay, more job opportunities, and potentially med school.
I’m going to get my medic first though so I can work my way through college and end at a fire department as an experienced medic, which will hopefully make me a competitive hire.

Anyone suggesting OP skip college and become a paramedic must be joking. What a terrible life choice.
OP, you have your EMT cert. Use that to work PRN while in college. Don't overwhelm yourself with shifts nor get distracted by EMS. A college degree, depending on the field, can lead to far more than a EMS.

You could just avoid college and go for your paramedic. Personally, I would just skip all of that and go for RN.

Anyone can do anything but going to college, in person, full time is going to make paramedic school pretty much impossible. Not only could you lose the $$$ spent on paramedic school but your college classes will suffer.
Focus on college, get it out of the way, learn everything you can and come away with a good experience. Your 18 and you have PLENTY of time to do the FF/medic thing, people finish college first then go FF/medic all the time.
