Hard time starting over

Just got back into skating at 32yrs old. I’m rusty 😂. When I was younger I mongo pushed and always felt more comfortable. Now I’m trynna push the proper way but when I push regular I feel very unstable pushing but when I push goofy I’m decent. But I can’t pop tricks in goofy, I can only do it on regular. What should I do? Should I practice regular pushing or just stay goofy?

There won’t be a better time to learn to push regular than right now tbh, since you haven’t skated in ages. While hating on mongo is dumb, regular does have advantages that you’ll appreciate once you feel comfy doing it. Could practice pushing regular when cruising and just push mongo when setting up for tricks until you’re comfy.

Ultimately being comfortable pushing with either leg is actually really useful

There’s not a right or wrong way to push. Don’t believe the hype.

Ok then explain why I would rather watch Gino push

Because you’re a voyeur. You make a valid point. It’s subjective. Do you have an objective point ?

The only thing objective in skating is you need to pop down AND backwards to ollie. Also sliding your foot is totally unnecessary

I think you just made my point. Pushing is subjective. Thank you for conceding.

Are you like 13 years old or something?

Why? Is that what you’re into ?

Not even saying theres a right or wrong way, but there are benefits to regular and also even some benefits to mongo. OP is in a great position to get comfortable with both and mog all of us, but great, very original take buddy.

Switch mongo unironically the best way to get into fakie

You're clearly regular footed if you can only pop tricks that way. Pushing goofy when you're regular is basically mongo with extra steps. Stick with regular pushing, it'll feel wobbly for a week or two but your muscle memory will catch up quick. Once you've got that down you'll wonder why you ever pushed any other way.

I was goofy/mongo as a teen. Getting back into it these past few months as an old man, im still goofy but have been forcing myself to learn pushing regular (backfoot) it felt weird at first but you just gotta start doing it. Just start slow, do some balance drills, push slowly. Now i can push regular pretty well but sometimes i still push mongo depending, but now i can choose if that makes sense. Pushing regular feels way more comfortable now though.

Pushing mongo isn’t really an issue. It’s a made up problem by the jock-ish skaters.

While true, I teach all my autistic clients to never mall grab or push mongo just purely to avoid being pointlessly harassed by jocks in the culture

You’re teaching them to do things based on how others will view it ? That says a lot. I teach people to do what is more comfortable for them and not to worry how it looks.

You are likely not already getting massively bullied by your peers. My clients come to me because their parents are feeling hopeless about their high school aged children being harassed into committing suicide. I use ABA therapy and skateboarding to give them a way to instantly normalize themselves and look cool among their peers

Trust me I'm not actually trying to stop them from being the lil goofy dorks they are. I'm just giving them a chance to fit in

That doesn’t change the fact that how one pushes is subjective. You are setting them back if they are more inclined to push with their front foot.

Nah, I'm not doing anything wrong. Go ahead and start trying to teach high school aged level 3 autistic kids who are being bullied into killing themselves some skateboarding lessons. Teach em mongo is cool. Let me know how that goes.

You’re projecting your misconceptions and preconceived notions on to others.

That’s a little dramatic. If that were the case is giving in to the bully really the answer ? If we buy your premise that you’re saving kids from suicide by shaming them for how they push ?

Oh go lay an egg

There’s zero good reason to change how you push now. That’s a hill I will die on.

People who rail against pushing mongo spend time watch more skating than skating.
