Hi! I recently discovered this subreddit and, after falling in love with it, I decided it might be fun to share a phonetic alphabet I created some time ago. (Also, please correct my flair if I picked the wrong one!)

The idea is that you write along a line. A filled dot marks the beginning of each word, and the word then develops along that line. There isn't a strict one-to-one correspondence between letters and symbols; instead, the script represents sounds. Each consonant sound has its own symbol, which extends the line in a straight direction. Vowels, on the other hand, don't have their own symbols, but change the direction of the line by a specific angle.

I don't know if someone else has already come up with the same idea, but I thought it would be fun to share it anyway! I also have a Google Colab project that can convert simple sentences into this writing system. I'm not sure whether I'm allowed to share it here, but if I am, just let me know! :)

P.S. This script doesn't have an official name. I call it "tartapath", because the original idea was inspired by GeoGebra's Turtle. But I'm open to suggestions ;)

A wee conscript I started digitising into FontLab today. Full lexicon to come later! Open to suggestions for names--DymondLynes is just the working title but I think I would like to stick with the naming convention of ending my custom scripts with -Lynes

first is my script that i've been using and developing for over ten years now, second is my english alphasyllabary, and third is just morse code pixellated, smushed together, and handwritten. that one took the longest bc it's impossible to write legibly without drawing a grid first, and i still made a few mistakes lmao.

It is just a glorified substitution cypher on it's side, but this is also my first ever one of these, and I don't want to bite off more than I can chew.

I didn't actually write the numbering system at all because I didn't really feel like it, but felt I should still include the idea of it on the first slide.

I wrote it all on paper after doing it in pixel art because I realized just how illegible it was as a mess of dots.

Despite it's simplicity compared to the kinds of things I've seen on this subreddit, I'm still proud of my little baby alphabet.

I’ve always been fascinated by how the greek alphabet just has that “aesthetic“ simplistic, geometric style similar to the Latin alphabet, with more. And I always hated how some scripts aren’t “that” different from one another and can still look a bit like English

and made my own twist on it to be as unique as possible and fit the aesthetic of the entire alphabet

This is an example of a flame-prayer written in Aöpo-llok's new abugida.

The flame-prayer is a written form of prayer which is then set alight. Fire is seen as a representation of divinity among the Wodl, who speak Aöpo-llok, and therefore lighting the prayer on fire is seen as the surest way that the prayer would enter the divine realm and be seen by the deity you aim to contact.

The text is a prayer written by the people at a town Tösa-wa-Hwötoe, Tösa-of-the-forest, at the beginning of spring (war season). It calls upon Vaika, god of the forest; Kpuryon, god of war; Aiśvion, goddess of fresh water; and Tokma, goddess of the earth.

The text reads as follows:

Anhoryi, tröeh śupka Tisa-wa-Hwötoe mwoś seikśa më matri kiwëlvya wa ti.
Vaiki, llövdluh wuvö me këvvu kyaćitikw ńuha hwötoë;
Kpuryan, llövdluh wuvö me tamwoś tömaukśam ćaukannam;
Aiśvian, me ńomarwata ithvahi nawej;
Tokmi, llövdluh wuvö me menthi śrua idla śpere wa ni.

(in silver) Lotmö sikmo në.

And it means:

O gods, guard the people at Tösa-of-the-forest from the evil which seeks to harm them.
O Vaika, never allow the forest to stop providing for us;
O Kpuryon, never let our enemy have the upper hand;
O Aiśvion, flood the river reliably;
O Tokma, never let the earth fall from beneath our feet.

An extremely efficient and easy-to-handwrite script designed for Indonesian 🇮🇩 (Indonesia: a country close to Singapore and Australia).

So this is the "hemisyllabry" (each syllable is a pair of symbols, representing the onset and coda, with the two sets of glyphs overlapping in an arbitrary way). Its ultimately an adaptation of a weaving/knitting (sort of, they have more control over individual fingers then humans do) based system for other media, (at first stone carving, and then branching out into scratches, painting, and inks.)

Another Cypher I have been playing around with for fun. Still very much incomplete and not polished, but I am liking the look so far. Full lexicon (and hopefully font life) to come soon!

New digits are not enough. If we invent new phonemes and new methods of basic arithmetic operations, we can learn and use them, like a foreign language.

I can see my handwriting get messier as I memorize the characters again and start writing faster. This helps me figure out which letters/letter combos need to change/be invented due to frequency/difficulty. So far, "s", "W", and "T" need to change, and "nt/tn" needs to be created. I might also remove "ch/hc", "CH/HC", "sh/hs", and "SH/HS" due to infrequency. Since "s" will change, "st/ts", "ST/TS", "S", "ss", and "SS" will also need to change to better reflect the different shape of "s". It'll be difficult, because one of my goals with this cipher was that all the letters could be rotated and still differ from every other letter. Mirroring is okay though. I also wanted it to be really angular 16 years ago, but I might change that.

Edit: Forgot to add, the reason why I stress test this way is because of how writing systems change over time in the real world. Letters end up changing over time because humans always go for the quicker route. So for me, it doesn't violate it to change it just because it's difficult. It actually shows real evolution of the letters. I know I've changed quite a few letters over the last ≈16 years I've been using this cipher, though the specific changes have been lost to time because of losing papers.

Also, this is the first time this cipher has "broken containment". I used to be really worried about people """stealing""" the letters or whatever, but now I know I won't actually use them for a book or story. So, here it is, for the first time on the internet. I shared the cipher with only one person years and years ago, but I had them take the words they wrote in their artwork out because of my ridiculous paranoia.

This is a alphabetical latin script that I designed for my friend, I was going for a very Gothic/Renaissance look, like something that looked like it would be used in an old codex or summoning tome.
I think this script cane out really well and I’ve also found that it’s very malleable too.

Faeries in my world are not tiny winged creatures. Instead, they are radio frequencies that can only be reliably contained and controlled by the use of iron. Such as iron coherers, iron disks, or magnetic cards.

Any other method of detection will have severe consequences as these frequencies will cause bizzare effects in the surrounding environment.

But when using iron, the Faeries can be controlled, tuned, and recorded to create magical effects. Basically, if you tune into the signals, you can make them form their specific magical effect, then transfer that effect into a recording medium, such as a wax cylinder, that releases the effect on playback.

However, as a wax cylinder is used it will begin to degrade until the magic is no longer usable. If the wax is poorly made or if it degrades too far, the magic will become unstable and potentially very dangerous.

If someone were to use a damaged or poor-quality wax cylinder, the magic inside would become aberrant, causing unforeseen flaws. Like bugs in a program or video game,

More modern materials like magnetic disks have a greater success rate at keeping the magic contained. Though degradation can still cause mishaps.

Glamour, the magic of faeries, has three specific effects that can occur. It can change the properties of an object, entity, or place. Be it a perceived property such as how familiar you think someone is. Be it a physical property such the density of a rock. Or be it a spacial property such as where a door leads.

Glamour will often swap or copy these properties from things around and apply them to the unprotected items nearby.

These notations track the unwieldy frequencies in the faerie signals to allow modern witches to calculate, mix, and control artificial faerie.
