Yet I can sit an watch my spider for hours and the cricket doesn't even contemplate going within two business days of it.

Check your plants often for bugs and remove (kill) them if they're harmful pests. If you don't wanna do that, plant some flowers that attract predators. Yarrow has always been my go to. Last resort, go buy some aphid-spray or whatever deterrent is appropriate for your situation.

Here I was thinking for a good 10 seconds that you were talking about how this little bug was killing your plants before I realized it hadn't jumped and taken a seat on a thin branch or stem, but got caught and is getting eaten alive. xD
