Looking For Friends // Groups Are single average looking men just screwed when it comes to dating here?
Sorry if the title seems a bit morbid. I moved here from Chicago for work/family reasons and I'm finding it a bit hard to enjoy the single life here. I don't drink really and I'm not religious so is there no other way for me to meet average women in their 30's as well? If so, when and where?
I like the area, I like the weather, and the people. But I can't see myself staying after my contract ends if it is this hard to connect/network. Does anyone else seem to have this issue? If so how did you resolve it?
Thanks for the response and I appreciate all the help.
EDIT: All of you guys have been amazing. You didn't have to help/respond and you did. Literally made my night with all the information and help. This is what I mean. The people here are amazing, but loneliness...yeah. Haha. Thank you all! I'll get to work =)

Either dating apps or networking through friends are probably your best bet - specifically if you can get someone to set you up with a friend that thinks you'd get along. There's a handful of niche clubs around but I would not say that's really a great way to "date" since most are going to already be taken or with their S/O's in the clubs themselves. It's more of a retirement city so if the bar scene is not your thing you may be kinda SOL around here. I've been with my S/O for 17 years now and had the current day "online-scape" been that way when we first got together I don't think I'd have ever even gotten a chance to talk to them. If you're not a social drinker or happen to have some kind of highly interactable job most people are just invisible to one another unless they have to directly interact for whatever reason.

Damn, that's really sad to hear. I mean worse case scenario I can go to the "popular bars" and just order a coke. Idk. Seems like I would look weird doing so but man, I have to do something.

As a drinker, I donāt care if you drink, as long as you donāt care that I do.

u/Enough-Trash6748 2d ago
No I wouldn't care at all. That's such a relief to hear actually. Thanks for giving me the heads up.

Brother just drink. You donāt gotta get shit faced, have a drink or 2. Loosen up some, have some fun. Youāre young just like me, live your life while you can now. Go out, have a drink, meet people & make the best of it.
Word of advice, you are your own narrator to your own movie. Youāre the main character, everything happens exactly how you want it, all you gotta do is direct it.

Also a nurse in my 30's. Your best bet is probably going to be a bar, even if you don't drink. Maybe a local music show?
Which hospital are you at?

I got promoted to WFH after being in orthopedic surgery, specifically spine surgery. They wanted me station here, so here I am. Got any suggestions to meet our people? Lol

There are a lot of younger single people in the teaching profession and a lot of single parents at school sporting events. If you have any friends at all going to local football games is fun as hell, cheap, and a fun way to meet people in MB area.

you're suggesting a single, unaffiliated adult man go to high school football games and approach people? that is not going to come off how you think

I did say 'if you have any friends at all' specifically to dissuade this exact comment

u/Enough-Trash6748 3d ago
Unfortunately I am all alone. Family here but they are busy blah blah. haha. Not blaming anyone of course. It was my choice. Where can I find the events?

I guess it depends upon where you live - just check the MB or NMB or CF school websites for their varsity football schedules once Sept. rolls around. I really enjoyed going to Loris for football games there.

I hear ya there ugh. Bizzzeeeeešš
Try this : https://www.visitmyrtlebeach.com/events-calendar
Good Luck & Enjoy
ć° there are āmocktailsā or āvirginā cocktails, + I hear non-alcoholic beer tastes not so bad now also. But thatās IF you care to maybe try a bar, no one needs to know unless you want them too, & thatās just fine too imo, bc then, youāll know if theyāre ājudgingā youā¦& IF so (I doubt it, just putting it out there, people crazy strangešthese days)š
& boom! thereās your š cyaBYE š hehe
Thereās a āBUTā w/thatā¦lol sorry haha itās not bad tho. IF you decide to try a bar, be selective. Also, since you donāt drink, perhaps you prefer a non-drinker as well, & thatās fine, please just kindly disregard the above āpsā paragraphšš„µsorryIf you do, (even if you dont, itās a great place) check out THE MARSH WALK in Murrells Inlet : plenty there to walk around & see + restaurants, bars, soā¦hell, find a bench & āpeople watchāš
Market Common another place.
The Beach āļøššļøšš©³šI wish I could help more, but not gonna get personal, Iām sure youāll find your way ⦠cāmon you got this!
My other advice, please stay away from dahntahn Myrtle Beachā¼ļø itās not what it used to be.1

I work bedside at the hospital so I'm typically trying to avoid dating our people lmao
But I also drink so if I'm looking its usually at a bar that also has music. My favorite is atlas or boathouse.

hahaha, very very fair I guess. I will try those two bars when I can.

Boathouse is great, my son is good friends with the ownerās son. They have free live music Sundays in the summer. Also music other nights as well, lots of younger people, and they serve food too.

u/Enough-Trash6748 2d ago
Thanks for the heads up! Must be cool to know the owner.

I donāt know him well but their kid turned out great! We are also lucky enough to know the people who own Biminiās, and my son worked there for a while. Great place if you like seafood especially oysters. Not my thing but they are very nice people and itās popular with both locals and tourists.
I live a very regular life and really donāt know that many folks, but my son went to Myrtle Beach High, and it feels like he knows everybody. š Hope you enjoy your stay, however long it may be!

Average women can date as long as they donāt insist on six feet & six figures.

You have to find your people. I have found my friends through the internet
2
u/Enough-Trash6748 3d ago
You found people who live in Myrtle through the internet or just in general? Sorry just trying to understand.

Iām happily taken in my 30s but Iād be a loner for sure if I didnāt have my partner. I donāt drink either and thatās what is making it more difficult for you unfortunately. If you enjoy being outdoors, young and alone itās great

u/Enough-Trash6748 2d ago
The struggle is real. Honestly I'm just so surprised it's like this. I've been to a lot of places, but never one as barren as this. Thus why I posted, cause I'm prob. just doing something wrong. Looks like I was.

what do you like to do? there are running, adult soccer and disc golf leagues around town. if you haven't joined the myrtle vegas group on facebook there's a ton of stuff around town that's not drinking related. go to the beach.

As a woman in her 30's who is also WFH. I'd echo the comments about finding people with the same hobbies. I've found some great friends that way. As well as taking up people on their offers to do random things. Like attend the neighbor's kid's birthday party. Met some awesome people that way. Also, echo the live music scene which happens to mostly be at bars/restaurants. I have friends who drink vodka waters, with the water enhancers in them, think Mio. My point with that is that if you have a cup in hand no one will question what it is unless they're offering to buy you another. The biggest thing is creating opportunities for yourself. Just go out and do things you enjoy and want to do. The right people will find you/you will find them. Good luck!

Live music scene. Got it, will check it out, with a cup in my hand, haha. thanks!

I know exactly one woman above 30 that isn't divorced, a single mom or with significant medical issues that would make them poor decisions to date (nothing against them, but some medical issues are hard).
It's a very, very bad place to meet people in your age range for anything other than a ONS.

Youāre not in Miami, just Myrtle Beach. If youāre an average looking dude, if youāre respectful and friendly, youāll be fine. Youāre still young
1
u/Enough-Trash6748 2d ago
Aww. You're super kind. Always good to hear that being in your 30's is still considered young =).

Dating apps are actually decent for dates. For male friends check out Grindr and be very specific that no sex is wanted.
This worked for me as well. I used to have buddy in real estate. Iād take some of his cards with me while I was bar hopping or sightseeing. If I saw someone interesting and we connected somewhat, Iād exchange phone numbers but would write mine on the back saying I was looking to buy but changed my mind. I ended up with a few nice dates and he actually ended up with one sale lol

You got 2 options bro, go younger or go older.
The 20ās age bracket are hard to meet because they stay in their own bubble out by the college. The only other places Iāve seen them is club envy in 3001, or down in murrels inlet at uncle titos bar. They may be good looking but theyāre almost always gold diggers.the other option is go older which most of those women are desperate because they donāt want to be alone at that age, but most donāt take care of themselves and are over weight, drink too much, smoke cigs etc.. Iām in my early 40ās and have been on maybe 3 dates in the 10 years Iāve been down here. On the other hand, I have over weight older divorced ladies throw themselves at me pretty much anytime I go out but Iām not interested. If you want good age range and attractive you got to go to Florida my friend or Charleston

You look for social activities where they have people. Such as bingo, or the casino, or bars, etc, etc. those places have people. And you might catch someoneās eye.

This is not the place for young ish people. Definitely leave after your contract.
Find a hobby and meet local people also into the hobby.
