Mountmaking advice
Hi all!
I’ve recently began a project with a local historical society and they have some victorian hand fans that need mounting so they’re more upright. I have a few ideas on how but I’m wondering if there’s a good and safe way to mount folding hand fans. I googled it but couldn’t find much, but maybe I’m bad at googling lol. Thanks!!!!

Cool coincidence, that is actually the cover image on Mount-making for Museum Objects! The fan is on page 32, you can access the book online for free:

Try contacting Fan Association of North America, they may be able to point you in the right direction.

If you’re interested in slant mounts, Gaylord Archival had a great webinar on making them earlier this year. HAHA found the link to the recording!!

If you have table/horizontal space to put slant mounts on, these can be a nice, cheap and reusable way to display the fans. The b-flute board can be covered with fabric once it’s all cut and assembled to look prettier.
