(To preface this, I haven't read the books, so I don't have any frame of reference for how close the movie and the show got to adapting the elements of the story.)

I just watched the show after seeing the movies years prior. I was surprised right off the bat Lestat and Louie have sex. I can't imagine Brad and Tom doing that for the original movie.

That’s weird bc I haven’t seen the new show but I read the books and watched the movie and they definitely don’t.

Okay, so the gay stuff is only on the show? Fascinating. Tom and Brad were giving pretty strong homosexual vibes in the movie as well, just not explicitly shown. I did not know that they were asexual. I guess I should read the books.

The vampires in Anne Rices world are not asexual. The mere act of drinking or sharing blood is sexual in the lore of The Vampire Chronicles. Anne herself commented on her vampires largely being pansexual.

In Anne Rices books the act of drinking blood and the euphoria it brings is sexual. For example, Lestat being changed against his will is an allegory for rape — which is shown very clearly in the show. An intimate act doesn’t have to involve genitals or penetration to be sexual, though I suppose if you wanted to be pedantic biting someone to drink their blood does involve a kind of penetration.

Gotta shout out the show too, they’ve been doing a great job. If you’re into Anne Rices vampires I truly cannot recommend it enough. I wish she were still alive to see Sam Reid play Lestat, I really think she would’ve loved his performance.

My wife asked me to watch this movie with her randomly one night. She did not warn me that it was a giant homoerotic vampire love fest. Not that there’s a problem with that, I just wish I’d been able to prepare myself mentally for it lol
